Orina: "Oh, dreams! I always wondered where they came from." Hainsley asks. "I've never actually had one until...last night, actually. That would makes sense, that's the first time I remember actually sleeping. Being forced to sleep to dream doesn't sound too bad, but then again, being awake is preferable."
The kenku nods as it listens in on your conversation, and says to you. "This is an emergency, do what you must- but be careful, please! I will tell the others what you have said to me." The kenku gives a loud caw into the air as you make haste to the estate.
You open the door, which seems to have a magical seal of some kind that has been broken. There is a living room, where an old dragonborn woman has passed out with a newspaper in her hand. You activate detect magic, and before you see the hypnotic eddies of enchantment magic swirling through the air. Your eyes feel a bit heavy, but you stay awake. You look around for the source of the magic, and realize that the seal on the door seems to be partially exuding the energy. You're no expert on seals and their magical properties-though your holy symbol does resemble at least one of them (the empress seal, for life, and perhaps a few others depending on whether your worship is focused to the Domain or a specific Aspect)-you might be able denote it's nature through a Religion check.
You can tell that the old woman is under the effects on enchantment spell. You sense a strong presence of enchantment magic coming from a door across from you, and you hear the sound of silverware clattering and dishware shattering. Hainsley whispers in your ear. "There's something in that room, Orina...everyone might be dreaming right now but I think whatever is in there is more like a nightmare."
Corvidae Castle District - Liadon's Estate:
Iam: You are pushed into the portal, which seems to be filled with a liquid with the consistency of water, but slightly stickier. Your no expert, on living excretions, but you are fairly certain this is saliva-or at least saliva like-and you are quiet thankful to have no need to smell. You can feel it attempting to pull you in, and you need to make a strength saving throw.
You make the emperor seal, magical seals form in the air nearby, but the cultist shrugs it off. "Pah, you think those baby shapes are going to help you? I doubt an amateur like you couldn't even pull off a binary. It's not a science, it's an art, and your dealing with a surrealist. Watch and learn: "
The Cultist slices their hand open, and suddenly dance in a flurry of nonsensical motions, spattering blood everywhere…you're not entirely sure if they are casting a spell at all? The cultist does nothing? It is your turn!
Glanyrafon: Road to Rafon's Run
Tsahil: You manage to carefully move out of the webbing, but you take another nick in the process, taking 2 slashing. The amulet is still gripped in your hand as you begin to board your horse. "You damn fool!" says the Caretaker. "You could have gotten yourself killed-joining the ranks of the rest of the greedy dead in this hellhole do you- … do you hear that?" You hear what sounds like the strumming of taut metal strings from above you. 22
You feel a thin prick through your abdomen, and you feel a pain in your chest and your back. You only take 1 point of damage, but you look down, and see a bloody string has pierced right through you. "Don't move, move and you die! Cut that thing quick!" says the Caretaker, raising his blade defensively towards the sound.
Palace:
Ulrich: The guards are taken aback by your speech, and they keep their distance from you. They don't seem to understand what you are saying. You manage to use the opportunity to get closer to the window, which is so perfectly clear it hardly seems like a window at all. *thunk thunk thunk* you turn around and see nothing but you hear a highly muffled voice call. "Mrimm! mse tmm pmm om thm glamm! Tmm Pmm!" Make an insight check or perception check, or take a guess on what is being said!
Riverport:
Voldred: All excellent questions worth writing down, Voldred imagines that the thief might have had some answers to some questions, but she is obviously nowhere to be found. The giant does not exactly look like him…though there Is certainly something uncanny about it. Getting there should be the easy part. If anyone were to have answers…Voldred could find a way ask his Patron, but it is doubtful they'll give any answers for free.
Voldred is currently standing in his room, fully recovered, or perhaps never injured at all from last nights mysterious encounters. He gathers his things, and is now fully prepared to leave. ((I'm entirely sure what his/your plans are)) What will he do?
((Voldred doesn't have a patron, he's not even a warlock. And his 1 level of cleric connection is with Orcus, but they're not friends, so Voldred avoids drawing his attention as much as possible. At least in my head-canon, maybe something more fitting for this campaign can be arranged instead.))
As for Voldred's plans, he's going to go to that giant to dismiss it as quickly as possible. He can deal with the rest of his problems later.
"Oh dear... it seems like you're becoming more like the rest of us each day here. That means whatever happens in this house might actually be able to hurt you," Orina says to Hainsley with a note of worry. She looks at the seals again, thinking hard. "Oh dear light, please grant me a revelation," Orina prays, clasping her hands together.
Religion: 11 + 2
Sweating a bit nervously, Orina checks to see if there's anything she can do for the woman before inching her way towards the door. "Stay behind me, Hainsley," she whispers, "And don't do anything foolish! I don't want you getting hurt, so if it looks dangerous, stay out here and do your best to protect that woman, okay? Keep yourself safe, and I'll try too... but I can't just leave these people like this," she says with determination. "Something's wrong, and I have to figure out what's going on." Pulling out her torch and lighting it, she steps forward cautiously. With one last nervous prayer to the Light for guidance, she pushes the door open.
"Holy damn, what the hell is happening here? Do you think that's because of this amulet?" Tsahil asks the Caretaker. He tries to be calm, but the whole thing is visibly shaking him.
He then tries to cut the string with a dagger, moving as little as possible.
Hello everyone, sorry for the long break without any posts. Finals and the Holidays overtook me suddenly, and I got very out of the loop, and I'm sure many of you have been enjoying the holidays as well. Regular posts will resume by Monday at the latest.
Voldred: ((Whoops. I heard "Deal with a fiend" way back when and automatically assumed warlock. Demons (and devils) on this plane are different than standard, but there is certainly an Orcus-like demon of undeath though, which people may refer to by the name Orcus. We can discuss it more if you'd like, but it's mostly lore stuff.))
Voldred makes a brisk pace out the door, the main room of the tavern is mostly empty, and it seems that most everyone has been drawn outside by this mysterious occurance. Most people are just standing out in the streets, staring at it, others are huddled inside thinking some disaster is happening, and the rest are getting away from or as close to it as they can as fast as possible.
You get there, and see that a large crowd as drawn around the giants feet, and you can hear what sounds like someone shouting above the crowd. "Come one-come all! This can be yours!" Atop a soapbox, a halfing with a large hat, tinted glasses, and fancy dress seems to be trying to make a quick buck turning this into a tourist attraction, or perhaps trying to sell it entirely. He has the area beneath the giants feet roped off, and some goons are acting as bouncers.
Corvidae Castle District (Villa):
Orina: You can see that the symbol as been edited in some way, perhaps whover changed it edited and inverted it's magic to create a spell, or perhaps to channel forth some foul aspect. Whatever the case, it has quickly worn the magic in the symbol out.
"You think I might get hurt?" Hainsley thinks over for a moment, before saying "The fear of getting hurt never scared you off before, not in the dungeon nor here, so it doesn't scare me."
"Protect the woman I shall!" he salutes. He runs by the fireplace and grabs a fire iron, though he can't lift it very well. He begins to march like a soldier, before saying to himself. "Ahem, right, nothing foolish. I'll just warn you if I see anything." and sets the iron down, climbing up to the top of the woman's chair to keep a lookout.
You look inside the dining room, and see what appears to be the back of a large floating humanlike head hovering over the dining table. It is completely engrossed in licking up whatever's left of this families breakfast, and does not appear to notice you. Just looking at this thing is making your eyes heavy, and it occasionally makes yawn like moans that pulls on them even harder. There is a man dressed like a butler who is asleep, face mushed into a pile of grits. Whatever that head thing is (a religion check may tell you), it seems distracted for now.
Rafon's Run: Road to Glanyrafon:
Tsahil:
With a deft swipe (and your action) you cut through the wire, though it's unexpected toughness hurts your teeth. It makes a very loud snapping noise, and it seems to vanish entirely after being cut. Your dagger is also extremely damaged.
"Yeah, it might be! I don't expect it's got some way to get us out of this mess, does it?" The Caretaker shoots a bolt up into the webs, where it is quickly shredded to pieces in to webbing, and draws his sword while rasing his lantern. His lantern illuminates what must be hundreds of spiders crawling down from the webbing, and at the sight, he tosses the black dust into the air around him and points, "that way looks clear! Ride!"
Corvidae Castle District (Liadon's Villa):
Iam: "Well, you know, art is subjective." the cultist says, out of breath and huffing from their crazy motions. "Usually this works, and it's very scary and people die from fright and such and so. That portal devour you yet?"
Slowly, you sink into the portal, until there's a *fwoomp* noise. You are restrained. There is an odd noise off bubbling water and air, like the sound of a partially clogged pipe. Your head and shoulders are above the portal but you are not sinking any further. "Well, um, I'm just to, uh...go then I guess?"
Voldred is not amused in the slightest by the situation, but this does give him an idea - he will wait somewhere mostly out of sight nearby for the halfling to do his thing, then when he's about to leave for the day Voldred will activate the colossus and grab him. To teach him a valuable lesson, and to take his ill-earned coin in the process. Then Voldred can simply dismiss the construct and quietly leave in the confusion.
Or maybe another opportunity will present itself in the meantime.
"We were just starting to get attached too. I think where you go I go." Dropping onto his elbow in the portal while leaning his head to his right hand. The sound of metal on metal scraping can be heard as Iam scratches a rune on his own forehead.

Religion Check on the floating head: 21 + Guidance: 3
As Orina whispers a quiet prayer to herself, she hopes that her murmur doesn't call the full attention of the head upon her as she tries to identify it.
Holding her fingers together in a box, she focuses on the food the head is eating, and attempts to use her gauntlets of transmutation to slightly expand the food, pulling her fingers apart a bit, trying to keep the thing busy for a bit longer.
Voldred: You take your time and wait. You get an odd feeling about this halfing...you swear every once an awhile he shoots you a glance, even though you are quite distant. The halfing rakes in the coin hand over fist as more and more people line up. After just over half an hour, a woman dressed in a suit with a golden feather pin calls out to the halfling "So this is yours, you say?" The crowd hushes. A Caretaker has arrived to sort out the situation. Those who have been waiting in line let out a groan, as more than likely their chance of getting close to this thing is over.
The halfing doesn't waste a second. "Is something the matter? It is no danger, you see..." The woman marches closer, and the halfings goons step in front of him. "upupup- paying customers only madam, and no cutting in line. People are waiting."
The Caretaker picks up both of the goons by the collar, one in each and, tosses them 30 feet in the air. One of them lands right next to you and crushes a nearby food stall. "That's no what I asked. I asked if this belongs to you."
Rafons Run: Road to Glanyrafon
Tsahil: You ride, and you don't look back. You can feel yourself getting a few stray cuts and knicks, but your head stays on your shoulders, and you make it out with all your appendages. Eventually, your horses tire out from their sprint, and you try to figure out where you are. You here the driver shout. "Ah! My help, my horse just collapsed."
The Caretaker checks on the horse, and breathes a sigh of relief. "Just exhausted, thankfully." The Caretaker turns to the group. "We cannot push the horses any further without the risk of killing them, and I don't know how much longer until we get to Glanyrafon. The horses need rest, if we attempt the trek without them, the next thing we encounter may be our last."
Tsahil feels a strange humming eminating from the talisman.
Corvidae Castle District (Liadons Villa):
Iam: ((Okay, before I do something stupid. Is Iam expecting this to work, or is he going out on a limb based on his knowledge of seals? With your arcana check, your seal will be successful regardless, but the seal he is quite complex. He might be trying to bind their futures, but if he expects it to work it would be a very complex solution, and if he is going out on a limb then something much different will happen.))
Corvidae Castle District:
Orina: Your knowledge tells you this creature is a known as a "Sleepyhead". It is often classified as a form of Knightmare, creatures of dark thought and shadow given form. A sleepyhead puts creatures to sleep with it's yawn. It will eat whatever it finds, and may attempt to devour the slumbering creature-although they are prone to chocking on food that's too big as they lack teeth...
...Orina slowly expands the food, although it grows quite a bit more than slightly. As the head scarfs down a whole enlarged pancake, you hear it gasping for air as the flabby, unuiritious slab of dough throughly lodges itself in the creatures windpipe.
(A little of both. Iam only knows 2 symbol paths fortune and empirial. At worst the portal will suck him to some where else, at best he will be stuck here while this murderer escapes. By binding thier future they will either be stuck together, parish together, or give Iam another chance at stopping him. All of those results gives the caretakers a better chance to stop this killer. But he doesn't know exactly how it will happen. This would be the first time he used a higher magnitude symbol, let alone the highest magnitude, and the first time he used a composite combination effect combining 2 symbols. And it should be a composite symbol 216 across and 125 down crossing at the X using it in both numbers forming a cross or plus shape. I keep fixing it and it keeps being messed up, so I'm gonna quit trying to fix it. Last, let's see what happens, that's the fun of joint story telling.)
Recalling what she did about Sleepyheads in general, Orina gasps and takes the opportunity to rush forward while the creature is choking and grab the sleeping man on the table. She hauls him off of the table and drags him back towards the door, to safety, a bit sorry for having to bring Hainsley yet another person to safeguard, but unwilling to risk letting the man remain in the presence of the Knightmare. As she's backing away, she prays to the Light for assistance, and her spiritual weapon forms in the air. Strangely, it looks a lot like Jogissa's hammer used to. It interposes itself between her retreat and the attacking creature, ready to strike at the first sign of aggression... or an attempted yawn.
(If necessary to strike, 20 to attack for 10 force damage)
"We should rest, and let the horses rest too.", says Tsahil; he then reaches the Talisman and, after a while looking at it in silence, he shows it to the Caretaker. "Have you ever seen something like that? Do you also feel this weird hum?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Riverport:
Voldred moves forward, using Misty Step to clear the last stretch to appear next to the construct. Then Voldred quickly touches it to dismiss it. And now that it's gone, he turns to address the Caretaker:
"That was just an illusion. I was trying out a new method, but the results were not what I expected. I should've dealt with it sooner, but I figured there was no harm in earning some coin from it since it was already there anyway. Apologies for causing a scene."
None of this is true, of course, so here goes Deception: 24

Orina (Bunny Knight) | Cordivae Castle District
Rafons Run: Road to Glanyrafon
"We should rest, and let the horses rest too.", says Tsahil; he then reaches the Talisman and, after a while looking at it in silence, he shows it to the Caretaker. "Have you ever seen something like that? Do you also feel this weird hum?"
