OOC: Arcana check to identify them from memory (because I specialize in demon lore): 13
(OOC, I have to make a correction above since I read the book wrong. The flies are chasing the vultures, not the other way around.)
The flies are Chasme demons. You know them to serve as interrogators or taskmasters for more powerful demons. They live to dole out torture and punishment, specializing in rooting out demons who have deserted their lords. (OOC Large fiend (demon), AC 15, HP 84, CR 6)
The vultures are Vrock demons. More dull-witted, these fiends live only to create pain and carnage. They have a penchant for pretty things, treasures, and humanoid flesh. They can shake their wings and release toxic spores. (OOC Large fiend (demon), AC 15, HP 104, CR 6)
"The giant bugs are Chasmes--enforcer demons. The other two are Vrocks, probably trying to escape to wreak havoc on the Material Plane. Now's our chance to get out of here!"
OOC: Stealth to get to wherever you said they might have put my spellbook: 15 (advantage only on rock/stone)

(OOC was hoping to see Valrish, but we'll keep moving. He can grab gear and jump in. I'll assume the four of you are continuing on together.)
The prisoners finish jumping off the bridge. Eldeth is the last one. "Wait, did anyone see Topsy? I thought she was with us but I was counting everyone who jumped! Ach, there's no time. Please keep an eye out for her!" You watch as Eldeth disappears, and then you make your way across the rope bridge, past the waterfall, to the other side.
Just as you cross the bridge, you hunker down behind some rocks near the waterfall where you normally dry the laundry after washing it. Ashara, Ilvara, and Shoor burst out of the door of the large stalactite, rushing across the short bridge. "Why are there blasted demons here?" you hear Ilvara shout, looking up at the cavern ceiling. "We don't know, preistess," replies Ashara, "but they don't appear to be directly attacking the camp. The chasme demons appear to be in pursuit of the vrock. Only their lords knows why." "We need to be on the defense regardless," Shoor chimes in,"they are unpredictable, these fiends." Just as he finishes his words, you see one of the vulture like demons careen into the nearest guard stalactite (area 4). One of the fly like demons appears to have grabbed on to a vulture creature, sending it off course. The whole cavern shakes with the might of the impact. Several guards near the area shoot crossbow bolts at the demons to little effect.
The three drow begin running in that direction, Ilvara barking out orders that are unintelligible as they get further away. The door to the large stalactite remains open. None of you have ever been inside this area, but you know from watching and listening to the guards that this is where Ilvara's quarters are, and you suspect it is the most likely place to find your missing gear.
Thankfully the commotion with the demons appears to have the full attention of the drow, as you make your way not so quietly to the stalactite entrance.
The steep rope bridge goes to the upper-most level of the tower. Inside the dimly-lit room, the floors are covered with silken mats that have a pale web-strand pattern woven into them.
In the center of the room, atop a pedestal, is a giant spider looking straight at you.
(OOC Roll perception, with advantage because of your superior darkvision.)
(OOG Valrish takes a chain mail, a shield and a shortsword.)
Valrish barges into the room where the others are. "I'm sorry I took so long, I couldn't find the right size."
(OOC I had to be outside for a whole day, I'm really sorry guys.)
(OOC Not to worry, that's the good thing about play by post, it's easy to catch up! Please make a perception check but no advantage since I don't believe dragonborn have darkvision.)
Valrish catches up with the group running up into the stalactite behind Belwar and Grimnir.
(OOC dang, everyone is paying close attention. These are some high rolls!)
Though it looks very lifelike in the dim light, the giant spider is just a statue. On closer inspection it appears to be made of finely carved zurhkwood, with eight polished black gems set as the eyes. On each side of the statue is a heavy silver candlestick holding a thick black candle. They are unlit, but appear to have been recently snuffed out. Behind the statue is a semicircle of pillows and and cushions, and next to them is a rope ladder leading down to the floor below.
Grimnir, as you glanced around the room when you entered, you thought you saw one of the pillows move, just ever so slightly.
