Varis feels refreshed after his rest. And though he didn't need to spend much time in meditation to be prepared for combat, he spent a couple hours praying and centering himself with the Divine--trying to sense if he may know what truly is happening here.
He emerges from his hut and sees the breakfast that is being prepared. Varis approaches the young couple, "H-hello, I am Varis Xiloscient, a cleric of Yalasna. May the Creator bless you both. I'm sorry I haven't spoken with you yet. Obviously, things have been hectic and I've lost my manners." He gives a light chuckle, "And, well, I'm generally more comfortable with my books than others. Thank you for preparing this meal for us." Varis sits and begins to eat. "Were you both in the arena?...With us?"
Ander feeling Refreshed from his rest joins the others.
Hello there I don't suppose We have all properly met, I am Ander Dotsk a Draconic sorcerer. That fight in the arena the other day was something now wasn't it.
Hearing pieces of the conversation, Grimnir walks over to the breakfast party and sits down with a thud, crossing his legs and making intense eye-contact with Colter and Jana.
"That one way of putting it, sorcerer."
Without breaking his gaze from the two, he continues: "Varis brings up a very interesting question. We saw you being taken away, yet we did not see you fight in the arena. Could we have been mistaken in our assumptions? Did we somehow miss you in the ruckus?"
As he awaits their answer, he attempts to study their facial expression and the tonality of their voices to discern whether or not they are hiding something.
I'm not sure if this would be an insight check or wisdom, etc. Depending upon how you'd like to handle it. I'll roll a standard d20.

The old elf chats with you for a bit, through small talk you learn that his name is Pafaren Elasandoral and that he is a retired alchemist from Eshaiya. Once you ask your question, he sighs deeply and looks out from the lookout tower into the distance and says;"Do you see it? Far off, all around us, another wall."You can just barely see the top portion of a wall that looks similar to the one that surrounds the outpost. "And, if you look further, beyond that, the wild purple plants? Those are lavender fields. They should be harvested by now, and look there..." He points in the opposite direction, "Those Moongrain fields? They should have been harvested too. It is concerning enough that Orckind have made their way to Ersa, but even more so that it seems the original denizens have perhaps met a similar fate." His hands clap firmly on his thighs, and he says in a defeated tone, "The worst part though, do you remember learning of the Orckind in school? They are tribal. In a constant war with each other on Dugvag. They don't train! They don't organize a group of 100 soldiers! What we have on our hands, may be bigger, and more dangerous that this current predicament."
Varis, Ander, Grimnir
As you talk to Colter and Jana you can tell that they are both exhausted. When you ask your questions Jana says; "Though we didn't fight side by side, I think we met the same fate. They took us away with two others, and after we bested the younglings in the pit we stood there waiting for something to happen, but instead they jumped us and we woke up here." Colter chimes in, "Do you remember all of the others in the cages, two dozen or so? I think we are the only survivors. They must using us for practice dummies. I can't shake the thought though, that they are supposed to be disorganized. They are not supposed to be training, or banding together. In fact, they should have just killed us outright, when they saw us. The fact that they don't suggests to me that Umok may be more powerful of a leader than we can understand at this point." Seeing Grimnirs face they look at each other and Jana says; "I know you don't think we have the necessary skills to survive that pit. I assure you that we are not well trained, but we have a way of defending ourselves..." Her eyes trail off slightly. Colter nods up toward the lookout tower where Guido and Pafaren are and says in a hushed tone, "We would tell you more, but it is not a secret I can afford to divulge, especially in certain company." Colter raises an eyebrow slightly, trying to see if you understand his implication.
Jana hears you and points toward the lookout tower, where you see Guido and the gray haired elf. As you look Colter says; "Sir, if we are to survive this we must stick together. If nothing else you will get your share of our fortune, at least that's what your half-elf friend is after."

As the discussion is continuing you search your memory for any memory that will help you survive this ordeal. You remember learning of Orckind in school and you remember learning about the Gogoric Wars that nearly split the world apart and the Treaty of Lasting Peace which brought it back together. You take a mental note that during the Gogoric Wars the Orcs were united, but not any other creature. And, you remember that even for being banded together they were more guerrilla fighters, not an organized force. You could draw some similarities between Gogoric and Umok, from what little you have seen of him. You hear Colter's comment and get the impression that he is distrusting of Guido.

He seems old and tired, but there is still vitality in his eyes. "Hmmmm... It seems that you know more of the martial disciplines than I. I can tell you one thing for certain though. We need to prepare. The burn marks on the walls are from Alchemists Fire, I know those marks like I know my own skin.

Some OC context: you know that 'in the near future you will be raided.' Or at least that's what Umok said. You know you have 2 weeks of rations and a whole board seasoned for a roast. You also know that Ersa is lightly populated, the old human capital still has a pretty decent population. You assume that you are closer to the east side but you're not sure exactly where.
Ersa is like an entire continent of rural america, if you have ever driven through a rural section of a state its something like that huge plots of farms and little towns scattered through but no big city. The capital maybe boasts 20 thousand whereas the new capital, Paolo has maybe 300 thousand.
We can treat this as downtime, let me know what you would like to do and we can find a way to resolve it. We don't need to role play every day completely since you are possibly waiting for an extended amount of time. Or you can plot an escape. Its all up to you, anything is possible! Let me know what you would like to do, also if you have any questions let me know in the OC board!
Guido meets Jana's gaze, “escape is our goal, to be sure but when best to make our move is the question. Grimnir is more the the warrior and tactician than I am so I am sure he will have much to say on this. But for me we have two options; escape in the dead of night; this night or the next. Or we wait for the attack and try to make a beak for it in the confusion and fog of war.... this would work better if it were just one or two of us. But a whole group I'd say our best bet is to drop a rope down from a watch tower late one night when most of the orcs about are sleeping with the darkness aiding to conceal our movements.”
“My vote is over the wall as soon as possible, for now gather supplies such as rations and make a few other preparations I have in mind. Some may want to stay and fight but my question is this... even if we should stave off the attack, what next... there are just too few of us to hold this encampment for long given we are so outnumbered.”
“Other preparations could include; make life-size human figures out of wood, straw and whatever cloth we can find. Put them up in the towers and along the walls to make them think we are here waiting... ready to hold the encampment. Nothing elaborate, just to give on lookers that impression from a distance as a delaying tactic. Leave booby traps, and if we can some of our own alchemist fire as a trap before we go. Hope that fools them and keeps them busy giving us some lead time... to put some distance between them and us.”
Guido does not care if they listen to him or not so is not out to convince anyone just give his opinion, let them hear his words and each give their own opinion in the matter. Either way Guido is prepared to wing it, helping the group giving his full cooperation as much as he can to ensure his own survival and receive his reward. So he will go along with whatever the group decides and make a show of his good will and cooperation. But just in case he has already come up with his own last ditch backup plan should worse come to worse.
Varis stands and takes a step toward Guido, "I agree with you commendable bard. I think it best if we get away from here, not only for the sake of my continuous research, but also I believe that others need to know that there is an uprising against the Treaty of Lasting Peace with Umok at its head."
"If it is training you want, that much I can offer you. But we haven't much time. Everyone will need to train, it will be exhausting and will consume much of our days."
His eyes scan around the compound as he looks visibly frustrated with their lack of options.
"We have no guarantee when the attacks will begin, only that they will. I can train you in the hills, forests, and dales just as well as I can from inside this place. If I had my preference, it would be to die as a free man, and not sitting here as a pawn in an Orc's war game."
He walks towards the threshold of the gate and speaks with his back to the others.
"My vote is that we strip this place bare of its food and provisions. We can use the rope and pieces of the huts to build makeshift sleds to transport it all. Everyone can take turns in teams pulling it. I, however, do not know this country. What direction do we make our egress towards?"

Varis pulls the vial out of his pocket to examine it further.
Varis whispers under his breath and wiggles his fingers. Having casted Thaumaturgy, his eyes have turned solid gold in color, like a Tieflings' eyes would be.
He looks up at Guido after looking at the vial, with eyes of gold, "Yes, I think that could work. I will go work on it immediately. But I'll leave it up to you that no one eats of the boar."
Varis heads toward the large hut and begins to prepare the boar as Guido suggested, wrapping it as nicely (or poorly) as it had been previously.
You climb to the top of one of the lookout towers and see fog rolling in from the right hand side. You deduce that to be west and use that to get your bearings. The evening is especially clear as you are looking before the fog rolls in off of the sea. You see the very tips of the posts of what looks like a second wall surrounding you. You can't tell if there are guards manning it, but you can tell that no matter what direction you leave from, it will be a challenge. You deduce that wherever you are on the continent, it is close to the sea. You see what you believe to be the fighting pit to the north, but to the south you see something very curious. You see little puffs of smoke appearing just above the canopy of trees, from you military experience you easily tell that they are signals. Someone is there looking for you. Perhaps it's your original captors, perhaps it's the military from Vasesci coming to help those who were stranded on Ersa by the storm. You assume that it is not the orcs, you have always assumed them to be too dull to understand something like smoke signals, but there is a tinge of doubt in your mind. Before this experience, you assumed a lot of things about orcs.
Ander
You set to work making dummies, you are able to craft very convincing doubles. You feel confident that they could fool an orc, should you need to use them.
Varis
You are able to unwrap the boar, poison it, and wrap it again withe ease. You feel confident that if an orc were to eat the boar, they would at least feel unwell.

Grimnir lets out a long, impatient sigh.

Grimnir pauses for a moment to think.
"You're right. But I don't know this land. We will take what we can carry in pockets and bags, the rest we can leave. I did like your idea earlier about staging this place to appear well-manned, however."
He looks intently at the party for a moment and then asks, "Does everyone have weapons? Those who do not will carry more supplies. Those with the best night-vision with travel in the front. I will remain in the rear to ensure we are not routed from behind."
"As for our direction..."
He climbs to the top of the tour and scours the landscape.
"...we will head..."

Grimnir
