The continent of Wildemount on the world of Exandria is current in a period of upheaval and strife. The Dwendalian Empire clashes with the Kryn Dynasty in a recently-ignited war, with the Cerberus Assembly fuelling tensions. The Myriad and the Tribes of Shadycreek Run contend for power, unaware of the coming threats from the Eiselcross. The Blightshore is as dangerous as ever, and danger rises on the Menagerie Coast as Revelry pirate attacks become more common. In all of this, however, heroes who may be able to restore balance and peace to Wildemount are arising. Will you be one of those heroes?
Some of you may remember me from my old PbP campaign, which I had to preemptively cancel due to my health issues and DM burnout. However, with the arrival of my Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, I feel reinvigorated and want to give PbP another shot, this time in this new setting. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a huge Critical Role fan and have watched all of Campaign 2 so far to understand any of this. The next post will be the essential information about the world your characters will probably know.
This game will be one mainly centred around the conflict between the Dwendalian and Kryn, and I’ll try to balance roleplay, politics, and combat so that every type of yer gets enjoyment, but please note that I’m personally big on roleplay and politics while DMing. I’ll also try to work with each player to help flesh out their backstories so that it doesn’t feel like you’re just randos dropped in the setting, but instead part of the world. To this end, I’m especially excited to try out the new Heroic Chronicle system from the Explorer’s Guide, which should make fleshing out backstories easier and more fun.
For allowed content, I’m allowing any of the races in the PHB and Wildemount, and all classes and subclasses in the PHB, Eberron, Wildemount, and UA. Anything else I’d like you to check with me first, but I think that gives you a fair amount of options. I’m looking for players who can post at least once a day, just to keep the speed of things relatively quick, especially in combat. Also, when rolling ability scores, please put your rolls in your post for transparency.
Anyways, here’s what I’d like you to provide in your application:

after the fall of Draconia, Nes’s family went into hiding as they feared for their lives and expecting the world to be doomed. They traveled far away and secluded themselves. This was all before Nes was born, but as he grew up he was told countless stories of the horrible things that must be happening out in the world. Nes became fearful and developed phobias of well.... nearly everything. Initially sent out to gather supplies, Nes learned the world isn’t as apocalyptic that his parents made him think. He set out into the world to adventure and face his fears...... its going to take a while.
Backstory: Paren grew up as the third son of a nobel family, his uncle being King Imanthan. He looked up to his uncle but disagreed with the isolationist ideas of the culture, his training and faith leaving him with a need to get involved. Eventually he stuck out south, looking to follow his god's call to get involved.
backstory:Maximus wasn’t always called Maximus, once he was just a half orc traveling through the Clovis conclave struggling to survive, that is... until a group called the grinners reached out and found him, treating the half orc with kindness that he had never felt before, and so Maximus changed his name and joined the grinners now working for there cause

His heritage caused a great deal of disdain from many, as in his early years, he had a tendency to be mischievous and inadvertently set fires more than a few times. It wasn't until a shaman from one particular tribe reigned him in with tales of the more "civilized" places in the world that he began to find focus. Fire is a necessity, without it, nearly all life would perish, let alone thrive as it has. He was taught that flames can be a tool for both progress and cleansing. The old must be burned away for the new, the same is true for progress as a whole. Upon fully maturing, he set out from Xhorhas, to wander and see what sights the world contained and where he might be able to leave his own unique brand upon the wheels of progress.

Backstory:
Sten comes from a town called Bazzoxan in Eastern Wynandir. He lived there with his parents and his sister. Sten was a hired sword for a powerfull wizard. A guard to keep out prying eyes while the wizard experimented on Chronurgy. He would often see errand boys coming from his tower with a letter of needed supplies or to hire mercenaries to find magical treasure. One day Sten walked into the tower as he often did to inform those inside that he was leaving for the day. But this day was different, he didnt see anyone inside. At least not in their normal posts. So he walked up the stairs tower to where the wizard was. With each step on the stairs he heard more noises. The wizard was shouting but he could not understand the language, he was casting a spell but something seemed wrong. As he got halfway up the tower itself seemed to shift. Parts of the wall looked transparant at times. Sten was shaking his head at this, he had not been drinking. He hurried up the stairs to open the door to see inside. As he wanted to push open the door he walked right through only to look behind and see the door was already open.
There he saw the wizard cast his spell but did not seem to stay in one place for more then a moment, teleporting from one side of the tower to the other. Seeing images of the other guards as if they were ghosts trying to reach the center where an orb was glowing. The wizard was losing control of his spell and was shouting commands to remove the orb. And so Sten hurried to the orb trying to knock it of the pedastal. He moved toward it as his body felt strange, painfull. As if it was being torn apart. He looked at his hand as it seemed to have a transparent duplicate starting to move away from himself. He finally managed to reach the pedastal knocking it away as a flash of light knocked him out.
When he woke up he was somewhere else. Going back home he spend the next tenday wondering what happened only to find himself wake up in another place yet again, another time. This happened many times. The past the future it all seemed to blend. Seeing and living what could of been or what is to be. It started to drive him mad until one day he woke up in the tower again. With the orb he knocked of on the ground in pieces. It seemed so long ago. A few other guards were on the ground, dead. No sign of the others or the wizard.
Tormented by what seemed so much more than dreams he had to leave, he had to get away. To find out what happened and to stop that what could happen.
If picked we could work on things that Sten would of seen. I have some ideas but perhaps you have some related to a storyline as well.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Mountain Dwarf
Fighter
Ulfgar Rumnaheim grew up in the dwarven city of Kraghammer and lead the life of a Carver, soldier to the great Dwarven city. He rose to the rank of captain and gained the respect of many common soldiers as he lead his squad tactically against the goblins and duergar that frequently hastled the Greyspine Mithril Mine. As time went on abominations began rearing their hiddious heads, and he found that it was getting to be more difficult to protect his people. One day a group of outsiders by the name of Vox Machina showed up and slayed one such abomination before barreling into the depths. Time went on and he caught word that they rooted out the source. That got him thinking. Maybe his potential could grow no more in Kraghammer. So after 70 years of dedication, he resigned to set out to become and adventurer, and become what he saw in the group of outsiders. Jobs didn't come easy over the course of the 20 years since he left. His odds and ends job led him across to world, all the way to the Dwendalian Empire. He currently scours job boards looking for something to thrust him into riches, fame, and reach his full potential, along with the hopes of one day finding his own group of misfits while saving a continent from being torn apart by the flames of war.
Background: Carrow grew up in the criminal underbelly of Rexxentrum. He was taken from his family at a young age. He has no memory of is family and has long assumed them to be dead. At the age of 14 he was caught robbing a noble and imprisoned for 10 years. Prison changed him. He began to look inward and found some semblance of peace in doing so. Recently released from prison, and with little to his name, Carrow looks to rebuild his life and rectify the errors of his past.
Backstory: Petia spent much of her childhood in the Ashkeeper Peaks. Her family were nomads who traveled the mountains, living off the land and helping those who ended up lost. Petia was always eager to meet new people, being fascinated with the differences between her family and others. She had a sharp mind, and was good at remembering paths, animals, plants, and stories. It was her plan to stay with her family, and continue as they have for generations. After an incident in the mountains that injured her leg, things changed however. While she ended up recovering, she could not move as ably as she once had. During her recovery, she had to spend several months in a village at the base of the mountains, on the Empire side. It was jarring at first; she was surrounded by a new way of life alone. She turned to books in this time, learning as much as she could. After recovering, she decided to stay in the town, wanting to continue her studies. During this time, she helped the town, by using her skills to help those in town. Eventually, she moved out of the town. Petia found herself in an apprenticeship under an Artificer. Creating things felt natural, and learning how to infuse things with magic seemed like a good way to turn her curiosity. Her time under the Artificer was hard work, but it had its benefits. After the apprenticeship was over, Petia decided to set out again. She hopes to one day set up her own shop, but for now, she's working on expanding her capabilities, and make some coin along the way.
Background: Brocc is a guild smithy who has always followed Gond, the god of craft. After years of learning his trade however, he thirst for something more and decided to venture out in search of treasures and riches.
Background: In her youth, Anna brought an exterminator into her town to help get rid of a rat infestation. This exterminator swindled the town, robbing them of their money and murdering several people (including her two younger siblings) during their escape. Wrought with guilt, she exiled herself and took up study in a distant monastery, living in seclusion in penance for her naivety. After several years, her seemingly goodhearted master betrayed the cloister for reasons unknown and disappears. Deceived a second time, Anna dons a mask of a crying visage and embarks on a mission of mercy, spending her days in search of kindred souls in need.
I hope this is enough of a backstory to work with for now but would love to expand upon it using the Heroic Chronicle system.
