Arael nods to Silent and Pockets and follows them to the inn. She’s listening to the two men converse, but appears to only be paying half-attention.
(OOC: She’s listening and looking for birds in the trees or on the ground near the path. I can keep the Perception check from earlier or make a new one. Your call DM).
Keyo follows the group to the inn. He is visibly happy to be on dry land once more. With a smile spread across his face he eagerly listens to the others talk, only to be distracted by the beauty of the island.
"This is island is quite different from Uthodurn. All the people and colors. Its amazing to behold."
Keyo runs to catch back up with Areal and the others. While walking, Keyo keeps an eye out for any vendors or market stalls that catch his interest.
Silent throws up a hand. No need to trouble yourself with any of my fantasies at the moment, Pockets. I know you've gotta be heading back to the Captain's ship, I don't wanna get you stranded on this island. I'll come find you when I've got some more coin.
He winks at Arael with a toothy grin. Gotta take a shot whenever there's a chance. Of course that's gotten me in some trouble over the years...
Pockets, you think on the carpenter's tools safely in your pack. You're not sure you would be able to fashion a musical instrument using them. However, you might make the attempt with some woodcarver's tools.
(OOC: With proficiency in carpenter's tools and an actual set of woodcarver's tools, I think Eldon could make the attempt at disadvantage.)
Sadly, Arael sees no birds.
Yes, anyone who wishes to see if they've heard of Uthodurn before, roll a History check.
To one side, the beach games continue. To the other, the shark hunters race into the water, seeking their prey. The atmosphere in the village is a world away from the bustle, smell and noise of Port Damali; this seems like a paradise. Together you walk up away from the docks towards the centre of town...
The ground beneath your feet trembles and cracks. You struggle to stay on your feet, but somehow manage it. You look back; waves a dozen feet high crash into the shore, and the sound of screaming fills the air as a stampede of beachgoers flees the sands. A chorus of shrieks add to the cacophony as shark hunters run from the water, pursued by humanoid creatures with fish-like heads and slick, rubbery skin. On the docks, Captain Soales stares down at the point of a harpoon sticking through her chest, and then crumples to the ground.
Silent does a double take, mutters Bloody hell under his breathand starts drawing his greatsword from the scabbard on his back, sprinting towards the fray.
Pockets, you know a great deal about Uthodurn, in the far north. Arael, yes you can make the check with advantage.
Uthordurn is a great city of the north, a blending of dwarven and elvish cultures and ruled by a dual monarchy. It's built around a great vertical pit that descends into the ground, and there is nothing like it anywhere else in Exandria, as most visiting writers note. The city is famous for its mines and its unique crafts, and its army of Glassblades is skilled and formidable. However, Uthodern stays out of most of the political strife of the continent which is mainly centred on the dispute between the Dwendalian Empire and Xhorhas.
Keyo curses under his breath and turns towards the others.
"See! Nothing good comes from the sea! We must get down there and save as many of the villagers as we can!"
Keyo whips around towards the beach, he moves his hands in a strange arcane manner. He mutters a few words of power and snaps his fingers as a field of energy flows over his skin. The shimmering bluish purple aura slowly fades into nothingness.
Keyo's cry rings out through the air as Silent mutters his curse. You see danger on all sides, but move first to the aid of Captain Soales, back near the docks.
Keyo, your spell takes effect and you feel the familiar protective magic surround you.
Arael, you motion to cast your spell and then hesitate.
(OOC: You can cast if you wish, but Shield only lasts a few seconds and isn't much use outside of direct combat. I'd suggest saving it for the moment.)
Silent and Pockets, you draw your weapons as you run.
Ahead you see a gruesome sight. The Blue Torrent has been thrown against the dock and has a large hole in its side, taking on water. Captain Soales' body lies motionless on the dock. One other ship remains moored to the waterlogged docks. Its crew members are battling fish creatures as well as giant crabs with orange shells and vicious pincers as they attempt to board the vessel. A young villager wearing a bloodstained white robe stands back from the fight and screams an incantation, calling a burst of golden flame down on one of the fish creatures. As you arrive, he turns to you, clearly frightened.
Those sailors need help, but I can’t get close enough to heal them.
The sailors and the fish creatures both react, and it's clear that they've noticed you.
The battle begins. Everyone roll initiative please.
You can also roll a Nature check to see if you recognise the fish men who are attacking.

A lute? I’ve never made an instrument before. I could give it a go, sure.
(OOC: Would that be carpenter’s tools or woodcarver’s tools?)
Miss Arael, is it? Do you know anything about instruments?
Areal pulls her focus out of her daydream and smiles softly at the gnome.
Music isn't really one of my talents, I'm afraid. I do enjoy listening when given the opportunity.
She looks to Silent, still smiling calmly, with a teasing edge to her voice,
Are you often in the business of seeking favors you can't pay for?

Arael’s eyes narrow as the elf mentions Uthodern and the air around her seems to visibly chill.
She parts her lips, as if to speak, thinks better of it and shuts her mouth forcefully, almost snapping her jaw shut.
Looking again at the half-orc she says
I’m sure it has, hopefully you’ve learned not to bite off more than you can chew.
she winks back at Silent.
Pockets looks up at the mention of Uthodurn. He tries to place the name. (OOC: can I roll something to see if Pockets is familiar with the place?)

What is your character's immediate reaction?

Pockets pulls out his light crossbow tries to get to Captain Soales..
Pockets, you know a great deal about Uthodurn, in the far north. Arael, yes you can make the check with advantage.
Arael shifts into a defensive position, shifts a fold of her skirt aside to reveal two daggers on her belt and casts shield as a reaction.
She grins, wide and predatory, at the assailants.
I was hoping today wouldn't be boring.
