Howdy folks! There's a couple things you should know about the campaign up front. It's a homebrew campaign in a world I have well established. I've been running this campaign with a local group for a while. The campaign has a very Tolkien feel to start but departs very quickly. With that in mind all players start as lvl 3 halflings. You should choose any class you'd like though without worrying too much about modifiers. I will be messing with some stats to make certain classes work better. This fits in with the players backstory.
I'd like players who can be fairly active since I'm doing this because I'm shut in here in New York. That doesn't mean it will end when quarantine is over but it does mean that I understand if shiiiii, stuff, blows up for anyone they may need to leave, including me.
Welcome to Hickorydale!
You've all grown up here in this nice corner of the world among rolling hills and meandering streams. Life is good. No one wants for anything or has any need to travel outside of The Dale. You've all been friends for as long as you can remember and none of you thought it odd that you would train so hard. Nor that you would have special visitors who would come to The Dale for months at a time to work with you each on your craft. For you it's just the way life was.
Most days you'd wake, have breakfast, and spend the morning helping with the fields and gardens, or on the looms, or in the workshop. You'd get a couple free hours for lunch and private affairs and then you'd start your specialized training. This would go on until dinner and then you'd have most nights free. It was rare that anyone spoke about leaving The Dale or having any kind of grand plans that would take them away from home. When anyone did speak about leaving it was usually after being too far in the cups and would be forgotten by morning.
Sometimes you'd joke with your friends about heading off to far away lands to have grand adventures. Be like someone from the story or history books you've read or heard about. You'd poke fun at eachother. “Look, there goes Zesis, he's a wizard of great renown dontcha know!” and “Here comes Dozur just back from playing for the King!” but you all knew it was just in good fun. None of you would ever really leave The Dale...
or would you?
To apply you can link a character if you'd like or roll stats in thread.(4d6 drop lowest format)
Let me know how often you think you can post. (Ex. once a day, twice a day, I'm sitting in front of my computer all day bored out of my mind so...)
Tell me 2 things about your character that make you, you.
About me as a DM... I've been playing (and dm'ing) on and off since '83. So sometimes I botch 5e rules because I have a different rule set in mind for something. Please feel free to call me out on anything like that. I try to balance role-playing and battle with a good measure of messing with my players heads thrown in. I enjoy stories with lots of plot twists and layers of overlapping small stories that create a whole at the end. I try to be descriptive of the surroundings and some will be theater of the mind but I also have several maps for this campaign. Many of the battles have maps and I'll be updating the maps as the fighting progresses.

I post often, and am usually the most active in my groups on here.

I just like rolling stats. Information on whether an application is to actually follow comes shortly ;-)

Well sure, why not! Have a mark of hospitality halfling battle smith artificer named Eikis Wilkin!
I can usually post at least once, if not more than once, a day, except on weekends, which are taken up by real life tabletop games or family FaceTime calls. ;-)
(1) Eikis is a strange girl, because she's an artificer. The whispers about town are that her father may have dallied with a gnome, because why else would any self-respecting halfling be so obsessed with tinkering and fiddling and creating strange, mechanical things? Plus, she learned how to speak gnomish from her parents. It's a scandal the villagers love to whisper about, especially every time Eikis comes out of the house being followed by one of her newer mechanical creations.
(2) Eikis is really a halfling at heart. She loves eating, and she especially loves cooking. If anyone in the village would just give her half a chance and get over the grease-stains on her face and the mechanical badger that waddles behind her, they'd realize that she actually dreams about opening her own restaurant. Complete with self-rotating buffet tray in the center of the venue, to be sure - she still is an artificer, after all - but serving only the best in roasted pheasant, fresh-baked biscuits, and homemade berry pie. Sadly, no one, not even her own parents, ever seems to take her seriously when she floats her idea to start her own business. The hero she aspires to be like is actually Brassport's most famous chef!
Dumble Halefoot, a druid of the Old Ways, lives for the joy of life in many forms, and takes special pleasure in the dancing of the winds and the warmth of the sun. Unusually lithe and thin for a Stout, Dumble loves wordplay and has been known to try at games of riddles with passing bards, though it usually results in stinging defeat. Still, Hickorydale is a happy place for Dumble, full of things to love and people to laugh with. His training has largely been directed from the teachings of a far distant Druid Circle, whose religious tenets include many things that Dumble has never seen.
I am almost always available for posting 2-4+ times a day, though I am in Hawaii, if timezone constraints matter. For Dumble, I was hoping to explore the little-used Druid-subclass Circle of the Land (Desert), and to theme his spells and personality around related elements or objects (Wind, Light, Stone, Sand, etc.) Let me know if there is anything more you need!
I’d like to make a magic caster, perhaps a wild magic sorcerer. They’ve never been interested in magic and honestly didn’t wanna keep learning it even after their abilities manifested. Proud member of the Bend, my character was content living in the region as a normal halfling farmer.
Edwin was raised as a child to love and revere nature. From playing in the mud as a baby to helping in the hamlets gardens as soon as he was able - he has learned he has a special connection with nature.
I am able to post many times during a day (my schedule varies a lot during "normal business hours"), but I can post a lot during the evening/night. I am in the Eastern Time Zone.
I'd like to join, actually have several character ideas.
I'm in front of the computer all the time most days.... but I'm in GMT+2, so the "day" is elsewhere compared to you.
I'll roll the stats and see which of the ideas suits it the most.

Oh wow, ok.. I managed to roll 9 ones out of 24 rolls :)
Ha! That's awesome! Some of the most fun characters I've played had crap stats. Kind of forces you to get creative.
I managed to delete it, but I'm glad you think the way you do. I'll put in an application anyway then. At least most of the stats are even numbers :)
So here is Giuseppe Mezzano the shadow sorcerer. He looks like Marilyn Manson and likes to scare and shock people. Being able to see in the dark and to create darkness really helps him do that. That's just the rough exterior though, a real contrast to the massive dog lover and loyal, fun friend.
I'm working from home so I can post multiple times a day.
What makes Esmee her is the skin dappling pigmentation she was born with. It makes her shy and fearful of being teased so she prefers being by herself out in the wilderness. Her mentor claims it was a boon from the Goddess Mielikki (can be tailored for the campaign with a different nature god), a natural blending of the dappled forest light. Esmee loves the land and nature and is at ease in the forests surrounding Hickorydale.
About me as a player, I'm an author so I love to write. I've only gotten to play d&d with my friends a handful of times, all one-shots due to life and time and not being able to get together often enough. I enjoy the creative storytelling and gaming aspects. WoW and reading LitRPG are my other favorite pasttimes.

I am able to post a minimum of once every other day. That is minimum because I can generally post more than that.
Barmo O'Shorn is quite a portly fellow but he is a crack shot with his sling ever since he was a wee lad. He is known as an excellent chef though is equally well known for indulging heavily in his own creations.
Question for DM: What are the chances you would allow Arcane Archer but with a sling user?
For everyone who gets the "dice roller not available" error when they try to roll stats:
just edit your post and add at the very end of it "dice roller: work, damn it"
Then your rolled stats will show up. It's a "feature" of the forums that the roller sometimes does that. Editing your post will kick it back to life so it shows your rolls.
I'm closing down recruitment. I've gotten some creative responses and have plenty to choose from. I'll be direct messaging folks in the next couple hours.
Thanks for everyone who posted. If you weren't chosen it wasn't from any lack of creativity! It was to create a balanced party.
