OOC - The range of the Find Familiar spell is 10 feet. No matter where you make Xelote appear, he is going to end up chicken nuggets.
OOC - Also, I just realized that this spell costs 10 gp to cast. At the bare minimum, you've already spent 40 gold pieces for this continuous re-summoning of Xelote. Where's that money coming from?
OOC - Given that Farnakees is speaking in Common, he gets no response to his feeding call.
As an action, you can temporarily dismiss your familiar. It disappears into a pocket dimension where it awaits your summons. Alternatively, you can dismiss it forever. As an action while it is temporarily dismissed, you can cause it to reappear in any unoccupied space within 30 feet of you. See Find Familiar
The area behind the turnstiles is within the 30 feet range.
Temporarily dismissing a familiar does not mean I am permanently dismissing it.
I only need to cast the spell again if I a) permanently dismiss the familiar; b) the familiar dies; or c) when I want to change its form.

OOC - Okay, got it ...
Xelote appears out of the range of the spinning blades; using the owl's eyes, Rastaris sees the following -
Set in the western-most part of the south wall is a brass lever in the down position. Xelote also sees movement in the corridor to the north. Turning in that direction, he sees a male and female gnome, casting spells at it.
OOC - Xelote's appearance triggered their ready actions; if Xelote survives this, we roll for initiative.
The female gnome casts the ever familiar Fire Bolt - 5 plus 4 = 17
The male gnome casts Ray of Frost - 12 plus 4 = 12
OOC - Great, I can't see my dice rolls ... okay, now they're here.
Xelote is blasted by the spells; Rastaris's vision suddenly goes dark. When he can see again, he sees a rat magically appear beyond the spinning blades, within sight of the party. Turning around, the rat raises its tail straight up at the party, in a vaguely familiar gesture. The rat then magically disappears.
Rastaris is dismayed that his familiar was blown away.
Rushing to act with the small amount of information he was able to see before Xelote vanished he tells Alianna: "Alianna, the is set in the western-most part of the south wall a brass lever in the down position. I think it is used to deactivate these turnstiles. Can you use your Mage Hand to flip it up?"
To the others, he tells them: There are two gnomes hiding out of sight. Probably casters and will shoot when they see you."
Rastaris seeing he has accomplished what he set out to do moves to the back of the group, out of sight of the gnomes if they side to come out shooting.
OOC: Isn't the westernmost part of the south wall seen from the entrance (straight line)? (Its the square below the lower part of the 0 in the label G10)
In any event, Rastaris is out of sight near the back of the party covering the rear.

OOC: Mithrokk will attempt to communicate with the gnomes to persuade them they are friendly.
Raising his voice and speaking directly to the gnome casters, Mithrokk says, "We come in peace! We are here to deliver a most important scroll to your leaders. They have waited a very long time to receive this scroll. We are not your enemies. There is no reason to fight. We are laying our weapons down as a show of faith. Our apologies for the bridge."
Mithrokk then lays down his great axe and glaive. To the party, he says, "Friends, lay down your weapons as well."
OOC - Lathalas and Mithrokk can put down their weapons, but there's no gnome around to see them.
Mithrokk will continue, "We are just here to make a delivery. If your leaders refuse the delivery, we'll be happy to leave and return the merchandise from where it came from. We will not wait long."
Lath will take out his calligrapher supplies and writes explains that we come in peace and our mission for the wizards and for the townsmaster. He yells out again that we come in peace. He throws the letter through the turnstiles and says that the letter is there for them to read and decide what to do.
OOC: Was the rat we saw a familiar of one of the mages? Arcana check? Was the rats gesture familiar to us because the silver-backed rats at the Peryton Inn did the same?
The letter gets shredded when you throw it through the turnstile.
OOC - What now, party? The parley option probably isn't viable given that you've placed Gnomengarde on high alert. The spinning blades are clearly a deterrent that the gnomes have activated since your 'invasion' of their caves.
OOC: Wait, you guys are under a misimpression. The gnomes don't need the scrolls. They're crafters of magic items; the scrolls are probably an order for a magic item the Silverymoon wizards want the gnomes to make.
OOC: If any one in the party wants to, make an Insight check.
Farnakees asks Lathalas and Alianna... "Why are his eyes white?" pointing to Rastaris. "Is he a warg?"
OOC: Scratch this then, that guy has no gold :-)

OOC: Can mouse over again! Test: Attack: 15 Damage: 10
OOC - Thanks for noticing it; everyone can go back to the old system of rolling.
OOC - You can use Mage Hand, but how will you direct it to pull up the level if you can't see that part of the wall from the entrance?

Persuasion: 12
Lathalas makes a show of putting down his weapons to show sincerity in coming in peace.
OOC - No, it's not below the O. It's in the square in the southwestern corner of the alcove. You have no line of sight to it from the entrance.
OOC - Mithrokk receives no response to his words.

OOC: Dear Gnomes of Gnomengarde. Will you Parley with us? If yes check this box. [ ]

OOC - Rastaris can tell you that the rat was probably a familiar. As for the gesture, it was probably meant as an obscene or insulting one.
OOC: Well, this is getting us nowhere. Rokki and Lath are definitely not murdering any gnomes for the sake of some scrolls and a letter.
Lathalas will write the same letter and set it just outside the spinning blades.
The party will make camp where they are. We will continually announce (in Common and in other tongues we might know:)
Then we do as above. We are putting the ball in the gnomes court. We've done enough to satisfy our consciences.
OOC: Wait, you guys are under a misimpression. The gnomes don't need the scrolls. They're crafters of magic items; the scrolls are probably an order for a magic item the Silverymoon wizards want the gnomes to make.
