On the beach, Barrion says to Flick, "I should have guessed that you are an entertainer by the lyre on your back. This is excellent! You can earn us some coin while we wait for the tourney to begin!" Without waiting for a reply, Barrion lifts his voice to any others gathering to watch the tournament, "Ladies and gentlemen, gather 'round! You are in for a treat, for with us today -- to regale us with stories and songs of heroism, romance, and wit -- all the way from Brokenbank, none other than Flick Rivertail!"
Persuasion: 22
After a moment of trying to rouse a crowd, Barrion turns back to Flick, places a hand on his shoulder, and says softly, "May the Everlight illumine your words and melodies." He casts Guidance on Flick.
Feeling especially emboldened with confidence, due to Barrion's divination, Flick swings his lyre around to the front of his body and beings picking out the notes of a fun, lighthearted chord melody. Once he's set the basic rhythm, he begins prancing around and engaging with the people on the beach and sings a song about the ocean, sharks and the daring fishermen who aim to try and catch them.
"Out to see with derring do, these suntanned men with nets and sharp harpoons,
Riding waves on the open sea, they're much more brave than you or me,
Hunting sharks in the blue lagoon."
"Thesestrong and bronze skinned fishermen, then come to Palm' Flora now and then,
To battle the dangers of the sea, and catch themselves a fine trophy,
They dazzle us with feats of skill, we wish they could be our best friends!"
"Hunting sharks in the blue lagoon,
Hunting sharks in the blue lagoon... c'mon everyone, sing it with me!!
Hunting sharks in the blue lagoon!!!
After a few choruses to try and entice the crowd, Flick finishes with a dramatic strum, which is accompanied by a leap into the air. Then then takes a bow and says, "Good people of Palma Flora, enjoy the festival!"
As Flick performs, Barrion weaves through the crowd with his alms box. When Flick finishes, and the crowd disperses, Barrion returns to Flick with a grin, jingling the box in his hand. "There must be fifty silver in here! Nicely done, my friend! What do you think? Do equal shares sound fair? Though, the next round of ale is on me, of course."
After splitting the proceeds, Barrion scans the beach and says with a satisfied sigh, "Well, now what?"
"But of course!!" Flick says with a wide smile as he pockets his share of the coin. "Especially if you promise to buy the next round! Now we swagger down to the front of the beach where we can get a good view of the tournament. I think it's about to begin!"
Suddenly, the ground beneath your feet trembles and cracks. Waves a dozen feet high crash into the shore, and the sound of screaming fills the air as a stampede of beachgoers flees the sands. A chorus of shrieks add to the cacophony as shark hunters run from the water, pursued by humanoid creatures with fish-like heads and slick, rubbery skin. What do you do?
Flick grabs Barrion by the arm and yells, "Back my friend!! We must get away from the water! Quick, everyone off the beach!" Moving back away for the edge of the sand, he watches the sea-going humanoids, trying to identify what kind of creatures they are, and if he knows anything about them.
(Having spent his whole life near the sea, does Flick recognize or have any idea what these things are?)
Barrion retreats from the waterfront with Flick as he continues to survey the mayhem. "I thought you said the shark hunters were the defenders of the town, yet, they are running in terror," he says to Flick. "Is there no one to rally them to challenge these devils from the sea? What say you, my friend? I fear it may only be the two of us, but will you join me in coming to the aid of this town? I, for one, have unfinished business that may prove more difficult if Palma Flora is ransacked."
Barrion clasps the hand Flick is using to escort him away, and says earnestly, "Fear not, my friend. My goddess will give us the courage to face whatever may come. Stay close!" As he says this, Flick [if he is "a willing creature"] can sense a preternatural camaraderie stirring up between Barrion and himself. Barrion creates an Emboldening Bond (Unity Domain feature) between Flick and himself.
[Emboldening Bond: Once per turn for the next hour, if Flick and Barrion are within 30 feet of each other, they each get an extra 1d4 added to an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw.]
"They run because the know that sahaugin can be a more cunning and dangerous enemy than a single shark. And because sharks don't usually come onto land!"
"I am with you, though, brother!! Let us do what we can to prevent these dastardly sea creatures from doing harm!"
With that, Flick begins shouting a rallying cry to try and inspire the the shark hunters, and at the same time, attempting to add to the confidence his new companion seems to have with his Bardic Inspiration ability: For 10 minutes, Barrion can add 1d6 to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. This can be added after seeing the roll, but before knowing the outcome.
DM, how many sahaugin are there and how far away from us are they?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I am with you, brother, but let us hope that a few others are as well!"
"Fight, good people, fight for your lives!" Flick yells, trying to rally anyone else, even if they just provide a distraction against the sahaugin. "Fight for your beach! Fight for your honor! Throw anything you have at these foul sea monsters...rocks...sticks... mugs... whatever you have that may slow them down!"
OOC: It looks like everyone else has left our group. Barrion and Flick are the only characters left in our campaign, so we’re probably going to need some new players.
(I’ll see if I can rustle up any new players. If we’re not, I might have to drop this group since I prefer playing with 3+ people. If you know anyone who’s interested in a game, please let them know to contact me if interested.)

A large half-orc steps out of the crowd and moves smoothly toward the closest sahaugin, tightening his shield on his right arm. He's in well-worn but functional chain mail and what grey skin of his you can see is crisscrossed with old scars. He nods to Barrion. "I'd better start fighting these things before someone thinks I'm one of them and takes a swing at me," he calls out, grabbing his battleaxe. "I am Tharn."

You can’t tell how many sahaugin are there in total, but there are four that seem to be an immediate threat.
