I’m thinking of running a new game on here. I like the focus to be more story/RP driven. Not that there won’t be limited fighting or anything, just helps to keep the ball rolling in this format when people post other than there combat turns.
The thing is, I don’t really know what game I want to run. (Don’t have any proper source material). So I figured I would run a poll and see what people want. Some ideas popped into my head:
Island hopping sea adventure
Retelling of a Disney movie?
A heist
What else you got?
Once/if there is enough interest and we get a party of 4-6 to agree, we will then discuss character creations.I’ll allow others to toss out ideas and then we can make a poll or just figure it out together.
What’s frozen if not a fighter, Druid, and a bard chasing after a wild magic sorcerer?
Maui from moana is just a hexblade warlock.
The tale of A group of rag to riches thieves venturing into Deep caves and caverns to unearth godly treasure. Just to awaken the evil Lich and his plot to enslave the world. - Aladdin.
The group wakes up in a prison under the cruel thing of a tyrannical Warden. Forcing manual labor and mental torchers as he looks to turn a profit off their suffering. They must rise up and take out the warden at all costs. - Heavyweights
Obviously it wouldn’t be scripted and more of a general idea and rely on what the dice rolls say. Just an idea. It maaaay because with my children being home all day every day and the only movies we watch are Moana and Frozen. Did I really think anyone would want to do this? No. But to think all dms aren’t just ripping of fantasy and sci-fi tropes of movies and tv.... we’re supposed to draw the line at Disney?
You’ve sold me on Disney. I’m not sure how, but I want to be a Bard candlestick. Or any of a variety of characters. I’m down. Fighter with weird feelings for one of his comrades (Captain Li and Mulan), Barbarian princess (Rapunzel), Warforged rogue who just wants to be human (Pinocchio), Wild magic sorceror who lost his family after he accidentally shrunk them (Wayne szalinski).
Bring it on. Actually, any kind of “create your favorite character” with a bit of humor would be amazing.
I think Disney could be fun but the Island hopping or heist sound like a blast. Sea adventures always make you think of different builds and ways to play because water is such a big part of them. Normally swim speed is occasionally useful but in these it could be super important. Plus pirates are always cool. Heists can fun and Waterdeep does have an interesting one I have heard amazing things about.
Okay, I don’t have any materials. We could call it “Waterdeep” but I don’t know how much it really would be true to lore.
It looks like mostly votes for heist. So let’s start with that.... maybe next “episode” will be a sea daring adventure. I’m thinking level 3 to start out with. modified array: 16,15,14,14,10,8. If you want to get a little wacky with it that’s fine.
As far as background goes. You will be starting off in a metropolitan city area. Everyone has a relationship somehow with Lord Vanderbuilt. He has somehow crossed you or a loved one and you’re looking to take him down a peg. He is a wealthy lesser noble who runs the “newspaper” and media conglomerate by day. It’s rumored that he also runs an underground high stakes gambling ring, but no one has ever been able to prove it.
Zazu is an Aarakocra who was in service to his king for many years, before his untimely death. He was forced into service, singing cheery songs for a terrible and fascist king. This awoke dark interests in Zazu, and he began to take the steps down the terrible path of the college of whispers. When his liege lord’s son returned, he found he wasn’t the same anymore, and could not serve in the same capacity. Instead, he found himself reliving his days as the minstrel for a fascist, and began engaging in secret police action for the state. He followed his nose for crime to the Lord Vanderbilt. Lord Vanderbilt was rumored to have had close ties to the fascist king, even coining the phrase “be prepared” that became the slogan of his rise to power. Zazu is determined to uncover Lord Vanderbilt’s secrets.

Name: Celia Race: Tiefling (Devil's Tongue Variant) Class: Archfey Warlock (Pact of the Chain) Background: Criminal Backstory:
Born to human parents, Bryseis was always an outsider in her family. Left alone most of the time, she learned at a young age that the easiest way to pretend that she wasn't what everyone knew she was. Touched by evil. Her parents were constantly taking her to temples, holy places, anywhere they could think of to beseech the gods to cure her of whatever wickedness had possessed her. Nothing ever happened, and when her younger brother and sister were born, she was pushed to the side. They didn't even notice when she took what few objects she wanted to keep for their sentimental value and left. Everywhere she went, people were always a bit more cautious, denying her entrance to inns, selling to her at inflated prices.
She became bitter, until one day she fell in with a band of other tieflings, people like her. They had decided that if people thought they were nothing more than petty theives and people to not be trusted, then they were going to be what people expected of them. Bryseis wasn't exactly comfortable with the idea at the time, but she agreed to join them, wanting to belong somewhere for once in her life. That all ended when Lord Vanderbilt had her and her group marked for death for a crime they didn't commit. She didn't know who had done it, but they didn't murder people. Never, ever had they raised a hand against anyone. No one cared though, no one ever cared.
As they fled, she became separated from her friends, and eventually realized that she was just going in circles, no matter which way she went. A voice spoke out from between the trees, sweetly speaking, filling her head with strange images that made her feel strangely happy. Images of people who looked nothing like her but could be her, the voice promised. Hesitantly, Bryseis said yes. Something seemed to change in the area around her, and a women joined her. She wasn't sure where the name came from, but Tatiana came to Bryseis mind. She kept talking, though Bryseis has a hard time following what she was saying. "Celia," Tatiana seems to whisper, and between one blink and the next 'Celia' seemed to wake up at the edge of the woods.
She looked down at her hands, and they seemed normal, she felt her head. Her horns were still there, but they seemed to be invisible, at least for now... She looked back to the city she fled, and smiled. She'd get her revenge on the man who'd run her and her friends out of the city they called home. And he wouldn't even know who'd done it.
Man everyone's building disney characters... I'm temped to re submit with one
The campaign does seem to be taking a more light hearted and comedic tone. I myself would have a hard time having fun and exploring my character if everyone else is breaking out in musicals and dance numbers.

I would be a big fan of a heist. Scouting, planing and then executing could make a small but solid campaign
I'd vote for a heist - perhaps set in Waterdeep?
DM - Storm King's Thunder - The Gods Respond
DM - Four bards walk into a bar...
Cracitus Tibicen (Tibi) - Aarokocra - Rogue [Swashbuckler] / Fighter [Battlemaster]

I haven't played a PBP here before but I'd be interested

Paladin - warforged - orange
Absolutely you will
Is there still room in this? This sounds like it'd be a lot of fun, especially if everyone runs with Disney inspired PCs :)
Edit: I really want to play Quasimodo, the dwarven cleric. SANCTUARY!
Wildemount: Dark Star One Shot (potatocrown) - Hops - Level 7 Wood Elf Monk (Way of the Drunken Master)
Up to 6 players.
Ok, I count 6 unique repliers before me. Assuming they all are in, I'd be 7th. Let me know if not everyone joins. Here's a WIP Quasimodo just in case:
