Perhaps 15 minutes later the hawk once more descends to report. Cadence twirls and waves as he reaches 100 feet and begins circling. After a few minutes he begins to circle once again into the sky. Cadence, "Yeesh, more bad news I think. Our meal's being taken by some creatures that stink. Pine has spotted some goblins and they're after the horses in a blink. Although perhaps they killed the horses....." she sighs, "..I could use a drink." She pulls out her water skin and takes a big swig. Her gulps are in time with the plodding of the horse hooves.

At the mention of goblins, Peter looks a bit nervous and glances around to see if there are any nearby. Fortunately he doesn’t notice any. And for the first time since leaving Neverwinter he is glad to be among the company of people that seem to know how to handle the weapons they carry.
If you would like to time jump to Fionn and gert making it back to the wagon, feel free to do so and interact as you would wish. Or we could move ahead to the dead horses in the road with the party either together or split. Either is fine with me.
"Praised be the Lady Luck," did not argue elf, "you can call me Gert. Let's get to the wagon." Both covered the distance pretty fast (assuming Peter did not rush to see the dead horses) and Gert could introduce their new companion. "Peter, this is a traveller who followed us. Not what could be suspected: apparently Lady Luck guided him to our midst, and I thought we better keep our luck where we can see it. Fionn, follower of Tymora. Here is our driver and caravan master - Peter, and these are the guards - Yevelda, Nova, Cadence. You'll get used to them. Eventually." He looked at Cadence, patiently waiting for the loud gulping to stop and just asked: "Any news from Pine?" If he was filled in on "dead horses and goblins", all he would ask is the direction and numbers, and tried to disappear in the thicket again - to check for an ambush, or to make some, time will tell.
Velda would look at the elf, and with a short "Got any ideas, Gert?" check to see whether she'd get anyone else to join her in a pre-emptive strike on any ambushers. As far as she could tell, the country was rough, lots of folds in the land to keep out of sight. There were the trees too, which obscured her sight. Pine was helping with that, and thanks to the bird, they had some idea of what was coming at them from down the road.
Seeing the elf dash off, Velda would ready her crossbow, and unsling her shield and strap it to her right forearm. Turning to the others, she'd say: "Don't like it. Better to be ready. Jus' stay down when the shooting starts."
She had registered the newcomer and was glad that it seemed as though they had been trailed only by a wanderer, rather than someone with evil designs. But she'd reserve judgement for later, as his appearance just before what certainly looked like an ambush was mighty convenient. She'd definitely keep an eye on that one, as much as she would be able to.

It’s about midday by the time you reach the area Pine spotted the two horses in the road and the three goblins. “Easy now girls.” You hear Peter say to the pair of oxen pulling the wagon bringing it to a stop. As you look down the road, about fifty feet ahead of the wagon are two dead horses with the Goblins seen earlier now nowhere in sight. The woods press close to the road here with only 10 ft on each side between the road and the woods. There’s an incline of about 5ft to get up to the space between the road and the woods.
Gert, stealth check please.
Velda, Perception w/advantage since you are on alert for danger.
I am assuming the marching order to be gert ahead of the wagon attempting to be sneaky and surprise some or all of the goblins, Velda in front of the wagon but still 50ft away from the horses. Fionn, Nova and Cadence being behind Velda. Please let me know if I need to change the marching order
FIne with that marching order, Velda looks ahead, before motioning the rest to stay close to the wagon, as she approaches one of the trees, attempting to climb it to get a vantage point and maybe provide overwatch if necessary.

Upon being introduced to the newcomer, Nova will step up into his personal space and sniff him. "Welp. He's not the dead I smelled." She'd circle him before stepping back, making an exaggerated sigh of relief. Noticing the others on high alert, the half-elf will sniff the air searching for the direction of the goblin stench.
All of a sudden on the right(south) side of the road you all hear “Oy, what’s the big idea making a buncha noise, we’re tryin’ ta ...” followed by “Come back her’ you” and the sounds of someone or something quickly moving through the woods to the south. Moments later two goblins, sensing that their ambush has been blown jump out of the tree line to the left(north) both drawing their bows and taking shots at Velda (sorry but you’re in the lead.) Which are easily and almost effortlessly blocked by Velda’s shield.
Cadence stopped, patiently waiting for a few moments next to the wagon. Her foot tapped in time to....something. She smiled a bit too widely at the newcomer, then...staring him in the eyes muttered, "With A little luck, we can turn it on, there can be no misunderstanding, there is no end to what we can do together, there is no end, there is no end." Her fingers weaving patterns in the air, with Gert sneaking through the trees and Velda having reached a perch, Cadence stepped boldly forward down the road with a bit of a skip in her step, heading straight for the two horse bodies. Her bird spiralled down to 100 feet above her as she walked boldly forward ahead of the party.

Velda had been expecting something like this, and by the sounds of it, they were faced with four goblins at least, but if she had attacked, she'd have wanted better odds than that, so there were probably more lurking elsewhere.

Seeing the ease with which the towering half-orc managed to stop the arrows. The goblins decide to switch tactics and target one of the squishier human targets. Surveying the area, it spots Peter still sitting on the wagon and looses an arrow in his direction before moving back into the thicket. Unbeknownst to the goblin, his arrow finds his target going through Peter’s shoulder effectively pinning him to the cart. Looking over to him he looks injured but not like he’s close to passing out.

Hopeful that the attack against Peter would be enough to cause everyone to run away and not shoot back at them. The goblin still visible to the group is a bit taken aback seeing Fionn shoot at him and almost manages to get his shield in the way of the arrow but it grazes his arm. Upset at having been shot at the goblin lets out a scream of panic possibly and returns fire at Fionn and then attempts to hide in the thicket.
Almost simultaneously with the arrow being fired at Fionn, you hear a scream to your right(south) followed by what sounds like a body crumpling to the ground. Shortly thereafter Gert pops through the trees “I’ve killed two of them over here already.”
