OOC: For Akira, the closest cover to the hobgoblins would be the wagon about 80 feet away from them on the opposite side of the road.
Rogram disappears from view, maneuvering himself hundreds of feet around the hobgoblins. After a minute passes, it seems the hobgoblins are still unaware of his presence.
"That's a handy trick," Leda says, her eyes remaining on the enemies.
"He did not say what his signal was," The Pole says matter-of-factly. Leda nods, "Wait for my mark. I'm assuming he's going to draw their attention. When that happens, we charge. Merric will provide what cover he can."
"Boss, what are our orders?" Tyjit asks Akira as she scans the surroundings.
OOC: Rogram has made it to the other side of the hobgoblins and equipped his shield without them noticing. Pausing here to allow any other responses or preparations, then will proceed with Rogram's stated plan unless that changes.
OOC: Woo! I was afraid the 11 might have given me away. I'm ready to proceed whenever you are. Reminder: Drop invisibility, yell to get everyone's attention, throw up warding wind, and hope for the best.
The suspense is broken when Rogram suddenly appears a short distance past the hobgoblins, the foliage around him disrupted by a mighty wind that whips in a radius in his surroundings. The hobgoblins, despite being alert toward the besieged guards, are taken completely by surprise.
"Now!" Leda shouts.
Round 1 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: Rogram is 20 feet away from the hobgoblins and 80 feet away from the besieged wagon. The others are 300 feet away from the hobgoblins and 270 feet away from the besieged wagon.
Rogram opens his mouth and bellows as loudly as he can, yelling all the louder because he can't hear himself over the sound of the wind. The wind whipping around him, he bangs his axe against his shield threateningly and prepares to dodge.
Merric grumbles as Rogram appears and he realizes he is still just out of normal range of the hobgoblins. “I'm still too far away. Go, help him and I will cover you.” He moves 35 feet closer to the hobgoblins and whispers a phrase in elvish that helps him move like the wind. Taking careful aim and allowing for the extra distance, he fires one arrow toward the hobgoblin leader and then moves an additional 30 feet closer.
The hobgoblins grab for their weapons and bring their shields to the ready as they adjust to Rogram's sudden appearance. Their captain with the greatsword begins bellowing orders. Some whip their heads toward Merric when his arrow comes sailing through their formation, and bark something back to the captain when they see Akira and Karib advancing toward them with Tyjit, who begins lagging behind her much faster, larger companions. "Curse these damned legs!" she shouts, hustling to keep up, her chain shirt rattling. Leda directs The Pole at an angle, running toward the distant wagon rather than the hobgoblins directly.
Round 2 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: Rogram is 20 feet away from the hobgoblins and 80 feet away from the besieged wagon. Merric is 235 feet away from the hobgoblins and 210 feet away from the besieged wagon. Akira is 240 feet away from the hobgoblins and 215 feet away from the besieged wagon. Karib is 270 feet away from the hobgoblins and 240 feet away from the besieged wagon.
Merric curses as his arrow sails wide of the hobgoblin and into the brush along the trail. Still too far away he mutters and dashes forward 70 feet toward the enemy.
Karib can barely make out the impetuous half-dwarf, but does recognise his voice when he calls out. Cursing at the distance involved he dashes ahead, trying to close as quickly as possible while holding his shield in front. "For the glory of Gond!"
He reflects that it's a far cry from what Gond would find glorious but he hopes that some of his allies may be inspired and his enemies ... fearful, as shining black armored figure rushes forward.
OOC: Sorry for taking so long after the last couple posts, been laid up a bit this week.
The hobgoblin barks out a command, and the others take position swiftly, like a well-trained militia. The captain motions his arms pointedly, directing his hobgoblins to specific targets, and their arrows quickly let fly. A few are turned away from the wind whipping around Rogram, while others land near Akira, Karib, and Merric making their run towards the combat. Suddenly, the grimace of the hobgoblin captain pushes through Rogram's wind shield, and the blade of his mighty greatsword fills the half-dwarf's vision. Reacting quickly, Rogram ducks beneath a vicious swing that surely would have decapitated him had he reacted a moment later. The hobgoblin wields the blade like an extension of his arm, pressing Rogram hard.
Reacting to the commotion, the trapped guards load and fire crossbows toward the hobgoblins, but none of the bolts pierce their chain mail.
Round 2 Order: Players <===== Enemies
Placement: Rogram is 20 feet away from the hobgoblins and 80 feet away from the besieged wagon. Merric is 165 feet away from the hobgoblins and 180 feet away from the besieged wagon. Akira is 185 feet away from the hobgoblins and 155 feet away from the besieged wagon. Karib is 210 feet away from the hobgoblins and 190 feet away from the besieged wagon.
Health: Rogram is wounded. Akira is lightly wounded. Merric is lightly wounded.
Rogram grunts as an arrow cuts through his warding wind and lands in his thigh, but his voice is lost to the roar of the wind. He looks up and around his shield just as the hobgoblin is upon him. One strike hits and the other misses, and the half-dwarf realizes it's time to act. The wind still whipping around him and the hobgoblin, Rogram draws his axe and swings at the commander.
Attack: 10 Damage: 12
If the attack hits (Whenever you take the Attack action on your turn, your walking speed increases by 10 ft. until the end of the turn. If a weapon attack hits, you can use one the following once per turn.): Rogram pulls back on his shoulder, arcing his axe in an attempt to deflect the hobgoblin's next attacks.
Blade flourish: Defensive flourish: You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration and deal extra damage equal to the number you roll on the die (4). You also add the number to your AC until the start of your next turn.
Merric winces as one of the hobgoblin’s return arrows slices through his leathers. “A hobgoblin outshooting an elf? That will be the day.” he mutters. Continuing to move 35 feet forward, he skids to a stop as he gets a better target. Unable to pick out the leader, he releases an arrow toward the closest hobgoblin instead.
OOC: Thirty feet of movement will place Akira 155 feet away from the hogboblins, which is out of range of the 120 foot range of Scorching Ray. Please correct me if I am missing something there.
Giving some more time for Akira's response and for Karib's action.
In lieu of having correct distance, Akira will use her Dash to continue on which should put her about 125 feet from the hobgoblins. (If my math is accurate this time)
