Amber Strakeln approached your company, she gives you directions to Garn's house but she does it with a disgruntled face, which you gather is due to her disapproving of any bad influence on Garn.
Ganessa agrees to meet you back at the Golden Goat around noon.
Only several minutes walk from the Golden Goat you come to a small, humble and unpainted ramshackle house. The smell of firewood is in the air and a thick cloud of smoke rises from the chimney.

Tempest noted the house's state and thought about the likelihood of this home being retaken by nature. It could be lovely if Garn's mother would allow for it. She approached the door first, suspecting that Betrit was not the best 'people' person and well... Jianyu was an elf.
Tempest knocked on the door firmly. "Hello? We are friends of Garn."

Jianyu stops at the bar on the way out and picks up a cask of ale for a couple silver pieces. He hefts the small barrel onto his shoulder and follows his friends down the road.
When they approach the house Jianyu stands on the porch ready to offer his humble gift to Garn's mother.
"Just wait a moment, will ya!" A voice bawls from somewhere within.
You hear a little bit of clanging and then the door opens with a creak.
"Wha'dya want!" A stout, red haired lady dwarf demands. Even for a dwarf, this woman is particularly stout and particularly short.

Tempest looks at who she can only assume is Garn's mother. This explains everything. She wondered for a moment if they were distant relatives.
"We're here to visit Garn," Tempest tried to get straight to the point. She thought the woman might appreciate it. "We fought along with him against those wolves, and we wanted to see how he was doing. May we come in?"

Jianyu steps forward and proffers the cask to the woman as a gift. He may have preferred to bring a piece of jewellery or even flowers, but Jianyu knew dwarves did like their ale, and this was a convenient option as they had come from the inn.
"So you're the ones who got that boy into trouble! and you've brought drink! He drinks enough and if it wasn't for ale the lad wouldn't have been skulking around Amber's place after sundown. No, he'd have been here with his poor mother who's frit to death of these doings of late."
Before she's even finished announcing her objections Garn's mother pulls the cask away from you and plops it in the entrance way.
"The boy needs rest, and he needs to be left alone!" She points an accusing finger at each of you, even Branka, and waggles her finger aggresively.

Jianyu stands silent yet unflinching, looking into the eyes of this woman, as her accusations wash over him. She's obviously been through a lot... Unfortunately the horrors are not likely to stop simply by being ignored. Yet Jianyu understands her fringe and sympathizes. He softens his expression, but stands quietly.

"Ma'am," Tempest speaks respectfully, but as sternly as she can manage. "Your son did not run into trouble without reason. He helped save a life. I cannot understand what it must be like to know your son came to harm and be wounded so, but, I would like to pay him my respects for helping not just me, but the innocent life he helped protect."

"Your son was helpin' save a woman," Betrit begins "And those wolves comin' towards town weren't scared of nothin'. I canny say he saved the town, but what I can say is this: ifin it tweren't for ye son, there'd be people missin' from there homes this day for sure."
There is a rustle and Garn rounds the corner, dressed in a nightgown clearly used for domestic consumption rather than public. "Mom!" He had heard snatches of the conversation and realized what was going on. "My friends risk life and limb to defend this town and you don't even invite them in? I'm fine!" He was already waving at the party to come in, a pleading note in his expression and posture. Anything to get a buffer between the nagging and his hide.
"Don't look at me like some beaten house wife," Garn's mother says to Jianyu. "I have my reasons and my reasons are my reasons. Saved an innocent my boy did and he earned his honour, he doesn't need to revel in it and so he doesn't need anyone to visit or pay their respects."
As you all begin to feel defeated by this woman's stubborn overprotective stance, Betrit begins to speak. Something in his words seem to grip Garn's mother but before she responds Garn appears in his nightclothes and brings the party inside.
Before long the party are sat in the living area before a warm hearth and Garn's mother, who finally introduced herself as Gurdis, reluctantly serves some hot Ruthenian tea while you catch up with Garn.

Garn quite happily gets everyone inside, ushering them into the living room. He doesn't seem to realize his state of undress, instead sitting in a chair. "Sit, sit!" The more entrenched they were the harder it would be for his mother to kick them out. "Is that woman all right? Are you all all right?" He seems genuinely concerned.
Jianyu accepts the tea and sits cross-legged on the ground in front of the warm fire. As he sips at his tea he nods in response to Garn's questions. He flexes his somewhat thin arms as though his physique were much more impressive than it truly appears. Showing he is none the worse for the wear and in good spirits.
Betrit sits down in a chair instantly covering it in a mock representation of his backside with dirt. He is grateful for the tea and drinks it quickly.
"Ay the lass is fine," Betrit says "wants us to lead her to her wagon, and I wanted to do a bit of checkin' to see what happened to the wolves to make 'em act like that."
"She gave us a wee bit o' gold as well. Interested in a share?"
Gurdis simply watches, hands on her hips and shaking her head, as you discuss your business further...
