Zack considers the invitation for a moment. Then quickly ducks back to the side of the building and gains the attention of the others. "I'm going in through the roof," he tries to softly call down to them, "If something goes wrong, I'll let loose. You should get the signal easy enough." He then returns to the hatch and climbs in and moves cautiously across to the chest. "What appears to be the problem, friend?"
Kalgren stayed put and watched the other two take their seperate route. He had no idea yet who of the two to follow but figured he could provide ranged support should something happen. He was not going to wade into a dangerous situation unprepared if it was not safe. The aching pains on his torso were a good reminder of that. Better safe than sorry, he told himself.
He turned to Oriander. 'Do your tales and legends mention any of this? Or that?'He nudged his head towards the glowing lights Vigil was approaching.
OOC: apologies for the lack of posts. Been a hectic week.
(It happens, you're fine. <3)
"Only 'Worlds past may be found within the Mother Mouth, for it is where we all came.'" Oriander says as he picks up a brick or two. Vigil can frontline, so he thinks, and Zach is a wizard... They should be okay if they get ambushed, while he will protect the one that was expressly targeted by the monsters.
'Worlds past?'Kalgren repeated quizzically. He took another gander at the glowing figures. He had heard tales of people not passing on to the next life but in every single one of those instances, it was never because the departed wanted to stay. No, a person staying behind after death always meant something was keeping them here. And things that are powerful enough to keep the dead lingering never bode well.
He wanted to call out to Zack and Vigil not to get too close to the wisps but they had already initiated first contact. If anything, Kalgren figured, this could make for an interesting hands on field experience: something he could relay to the head priests back home.

The wisp moves over to the chest and attempts to open it, but it's found to be locked with a fairly old lock... Rusted through, but the wisp can't seem to break it.

Zack kneels down and looks closely at the lock (Investigation: 6). Then looks around the room, "Could the key be here somewhere perhaps?"
The lock looks sturdy and rusted, and of an ancient design that Zack is unfamiliar off hand...

Kalgren looked on as Zack and Vigil went about their investigation. He turned to Oriander. 'The wisps don't seem to be harmful.'He gave the goliath a wink
He cupped his hands to his mouth. 'FIND ANYTHING?!' Kalgren shouted across the open space.
"Hmm," Zack strokes his chin as he thinks. He then searches around the room, in the hopes of finding something helpful (Investigation: 19).
After a while, Zack is able to find a really large clunky rusted key. It bears a passing resemblance to a flying key from an old children's story about a boy and a philosopher's stone...
With this, Zack should be able to open the chest without issue.

Upon unlocking the chest, Zack is able to find several things. The magic is palpable. A blue crystalline orb, a cloak, a breastplate and accompanying armor that look to be made of silver, a rod of twisted wood and gently glowing sigils, and a scimitar.
The wisp claps its hands, though no sound comes from the impact, and it nods... before bowing to Zack and motioning to the items, as if to say "Take them."

Zack gives a slight bow, "You're too kind, my friend." He turns to gather up the items and places them in his pack for later inspection. "Is there anything else that needs attention?" he says as he turns back to the apparition.

The wisp shakes its head before pointing down a ladder, as if to say to go to the first floor with Vigil.

Zack shakes his head, "Not talkative, no. But my new friend up there was kind enough to gift us a number of magical items. I just haven't had a chance to identify them as yet." He looks around the room at the other spirits, "So what is happening here?"
Hearing Kalgren call back to them, Vigil motions to him and Oriander to come over.
"Those wisps seem harmless. Can’t speak though. Any ideas?"
Kalgren pondered the information they acquired.
'Zack seemed to have some success in trying to communicate with them. At least they can do gestures.'
It still did not sit well enough for him. He appreciated the scholarly approach but often times he found that the direct, practical approach yielded just as much results and often much faster. He always was more a man of action. Putting his thoughts into actions, he confidently walked up to one of the spirits.
'Pardon the intrusion.' Said Kalgren to the humanoid wisp as he put his hand on the wisp where he believed the rough approximation of its shoulder would be.

The wisp seems to freeze for a moment, but there is not much substance there. Kalgren can feel warmth and light, legitimate light, but there is nothing physical there despite the wisps clearly handling physical objects.
The other wisps stare at Kalgren for a moment before rapidly moving their hands in a "oh god, please stop" motion. But they aren't actively being hostile, at least... just deeply concerned.

Kalgren retracted his hand. He looked at his fingers and wiggled them a bit. 'Well, that was different.'
The reaction he got from the other wisps interested him greatly. The one he had touched, had done nothing to avoid his hand other than seemingly freezing up on contact. The others had not initiated any action on their own, other than conveying some sort of distress signaling. Which meant there was no pain involved but the very act of the touch was taboo somehow. Was the interaction between the living and the non-living that set the wisps off? Food for thought but perhaps later. Kalgren figured.
He turned his attention to the wisp he had approached. 'My apologies if that disturbed you.'Kalgren gave the wisp a small bow. 'But is there any way we might communicate that does not cause disstress to any of us?'He asked the wisp directly.

The wisps look at each other for a while before they shrug. If there is a way, the party will have to figure something out...
(I am deeply curious as to what y'all come up with?)
