Tyriel sighs as he followed to the end of the path. "Well then... looks like we have a whole lot more digging to do. I'm gonna head to a place to rest up." He looks around to see if there are any taverns, inns, or bars around.

Elisha will look for a guard - perception: 24 and if he sees one he will inquire about the house where the man and woman is located where the screams were heard and also if they are still there.
Genesh stows the river stone in his pouch for now and has a leisurely walk around town checking what sorts of shops there are to be found especially interested in the tavern/inn that was destroyed has any competition or if it was the only one. Additionally, he will his eye out for shops like a pawn, jeweler, or curiosity shops. Generally, the Tortle is just wanting to get the lay of the land figuring if there no one outside then he'll plan on going into random nearby shops to talk to owners and residents looking for gossipy types as well as for those who seem tight-lipped and seek to avoid newcomers.
FYI, gonna rely for the moment on Genesh's passive perception, investigation, and insight for now, if you need me to make any specific dice-rolls at any point just let me know, thanks.
Olwer heads off once again in the direction of the town from the Tavern. Tyriel and Genesh follow in his footsteps, walking into the various stores and shops they see about. They are soon followed by Eisha and Genesh, with Irenia standing on the cobblestones looking at the tavern.
Olwer walks into the first shop, a tailor and his apprentice in the back. Come to find out, the apprentice is his elderly mother. The son explains that apparently she was a warrior of some note at one point, a legend to this town really. Lately though, they haven't been very proud of some of the things that have come to light, and she was starting to strain relations with the nearby elf town just by being involved with the town publicly. Right about that time the mother came in wagging her finger at him about making up stories. She offered to take your measurements, as well as suggesting a type of hat that would suit you well.
Genesh over hears all of this from the doorway, then walks back outside. Next door, he encounters a jeweler who is also the town's banker. It is not immediately apparent what the specific nature of his abilities to protect such a business are, but he appears unafraid of the prospect of so much loose money lying about. He explains that, realistically, he only deals in jewels of two kinds and banking of two kinds. “Mined” & “Found” jewels and “Savings” & “Loans” banking. He talks about the recent investor as a really nice man, and about how dreadfully unfortunate it is that people believe he's the one who might have burned the place down.“He really could have finished this town, made it what it needs to be. Damn shame.”
It was at the third shop in the building that Tyriel met his needed stop. The guard captain informed him that visitors mostly just camp out near town. The tavern was the only place to stay. Fortunately the captain is grateful you are here to assist, so he offers you a little bit of advice, “I wouldn't go too far into the woods though, even if you have to sleep on stone or a little dirt. They're sneaky buggers.”
Just then Elisha too walked into this third building, looking for a guard of all things. The guard captain perked up especially when she mentioned the woman and man arguing. “I'm the one who actually saw them arguing, I was on my way to investigate when he came striding through town like a madman. I just as soon assumed he left after what he did. They live on the South side of town, just off the cobblestone path.”
Irenia paced outside the ash pile, thinking about the man in a blanket. She pondered who this man might be, was it the investor or the man with the horse? If it was one, she knew where to begin, perhaps, if it was the other, she had no idea. Luckily it was at this point she over heard Elisha speaking with the Guard captain, and they all appeared to need to know, at the very least, what happened to the man who was arguing with the woman that night.
You all look to the South side of town, passed the lamp post and second building with three shops, far down to a dirt road hemmed in by trees on both sides.

Olwer in the tailor's shop:
Olwer stands very still while the woman takes his measurements.
He chats a bit with either her or her son, admitting that he's disappointed he won't be able to play music in the tavern, now that it's burned. But at least the people here seem friendlier than those elves upriver.
After mentioning the elves, he carefully watches the older woman. How does she react?
As the jeweler talks about the investor Genesh attentively nods in agreement, "yes, it's indeed a shame but I am not convinced that he was responsible for the fire no matter what some may believe."
The Tortle continued to converse in a friendly manner about the investor. As Genesh spoke he pulled the magical gemstone he found inside the fish he had caught, "speaking of found jewels I recently happened on this stone inside a fish of all things. Doesn't look like much, does it? Still, while I'm here I might as well get your professional opinion."
Genesh knowing the stone radiates magic doesn't let on as that alone makes the gem valuable. The Tortle inquiry is an excuse to gauge how honest and professional the man is or if he will seek to try to take advantage and offer to purchase it on the cheap. Then again the jeweler may offer true insight into the nature of the gemstone.
As Genesh discuses the stone he sprinkles in questions about the investor, "so what was this investor's name, how long had he been in town, where was he from? As you said a man like that could have brought a great deal of prosperity to this town, especially businesses like yours but I imagine there are those in town that would not benefit. People who would prefer to keep the status quo, you know power and control right? Most likely whoever burned the place down wanted to send a message and either scare him off or frame him."
Genesh speculates in the hope the jeweler will start to gossip and speculate himself what he thinks may have been going on and if (and who if any) the investor made any enemies in town.
While walking Elisha will ask Irenia: " I noticed while we were at the Wood Elf town......they seemed to hold you in a high regard. Are you from that town? They don't seem to like outsiders much. I wonder how they feel about their neighbors here?"
To Olwer it appears that she doesn't react. She simply makes a comment about how tricky it can be to have a certain kind of cloth to work with.
"Most of the time, better options are available, but, sometimes you just have to deal with things that don't want to work with you."
A small amount of grunting and effort later, she produces an excellent two tone vest of a brilliant sage green on the front, embroidered with a leaf pattern, and a smooth satin black back. Her asking price of 3 gold would be well worth this Charismatic finery. Now it appears as if she is the tailor, and her son is the apprentice.
Genesh
The Jeweler doesn't respond at first when the Tortle produces the gem. He slowly mutters to himself, then decides to answer.
"That would most certainly be a "found" jewel good sir, and I believe you "found" it, in the river. If I am not mistaken, that is a Pike's Pearl, and a rather nice one at that. They are very rare treasures given to fisherman by the river, who most frequently are found trading it, not with jewelers or royalty, but to druids."
He takes a pause.
"Might I determine that you intend to do differently? I should make you a handsome offer, though must admit I can only propose such a deal now, as my business partner seems to be a suspect in an arson."
Another pause, and then a smile,
"Well, by everyone except you."
He goes on to speak about the investor and you can tell that he and the investor were friends. He says the investors name is Marcus and he's come here after a long time at sea. He isn't 100% sure where Marcus comes from before that, but he knows he's been "on the river" for at least a couple of months, and in town for the last two weeks everyday. He suggests that nobody in town would have wanted to harm him because he bought from everyone. He was quiet literally the best customer for the entire town.
"Dinning in, outfitting himself in new clothes, buying new rings, you wouldn't believe the money he was throwing around here! We ALL would have been quiet wealthy had he stayed. "
Irenia turns to Elisha. "I'm not from here, though I've traveled here for a few of my matches and it seems I've seemed to gain a small following. You are correct in that they're not too fond of outsiders and I've almost had to rough up some locals because they harrassed my teammates or opponents while we were resting at an inn. One man was shocked that I'd fight alongside the orc woman I fought hours before in the ring. I explained to him that she and I respected each other and trained together, boxing is just a war inside of the ring but we are peaceful toward each other outside of it. 'War only in the ring. Peace on the earth,' as my old trainer liked to say. As for their neighbors, I'm not sure. Some people are suspicious of others for no reason other than they're not their family."

Tyriel started to head to the house, making sure that everyone knew where he was going. "Looks like we've got a few suspects. I'm gonna head down to the house to see if there's anything useful down there."

Genesh listened to the jeweler fascinated, "a Pike's Pearl is it? I have to admit that the fish I found the stone inside was a pike,"he said with a tortle laugh, "you certainly know your gemstones, very impressive. I'll tell you what... I'll think about what I might do with it... keep it, sell it, or one of my traveling companions might be interested in it. Since you cannot make an offer on it at the moment with the current situation with your partner so if I decide to sell I'll check back another time."The tortle said trying to be diplomatic and friendly leaving things up in the air.
The tortle looked at the man, "well I don't want to take up too much of your time, do I owe you anything for the appraisal?" Genesh inquired before he departed to be polite and thanked the man. If the jeweler requires a gratuity then Genesh will pay him, but either way, the tortle will excuse himself and exit looking to locate his traveling companions to determine what clues they might have found and seek to exchange notes.
As Genesh walked along having learned a little about the stone to jog his memory the tortle will try to recall Arcana4 any lore concerning Pike's Pearls otherwise later when he and his companions set up camp and have a moment he planned to show them the stone to see if any of them have heard anything about such stones.
LoL, I'm so loving my great rolls, oh well, never hurts to try! ;)
Olwer gladly pays three gold pieces for the beautiful vest. He requests that the shop hold it for him after alterations are done and after he has found a dry place for the night.
If the woman and her son seem satisfied, Olwer will chat just a bit longer, to get their names.
Then he thanks them both and leaves to find the others of his party.
Olwer receives the vest, and learns that the mother's name is Vasilia, and her son's name is Andrei.
Genesh sees that the jeweler is quiet pleased with his attempts to be diplomatic. He is more than willing to wait for you to sell it, and also firmly declines any payment on your end for time or services. He considers it a great personal favor, even if you don't, that you are trying to clear the good investors name and he waves you off in cheerful gratitude. Walking away, you take it out and look at the Pike's Pearl trying to remember ever having seen anything like it. You pause in place and think to yourself "Nope, just another shiny magical rock" before walking off.
Olwer and Genesh leave their respective shops and trail along behind the others to the two story house. When you all arrive, you realize that it must have been abandoned and looted. The only window is cracked and the door is wide open with many items disheveled and knocked over. Downstairs is basically just a kitchen and living room. Upstairs is just a small room with a bed, nightstand, and terribly melted candle.
Tyriel is unable to find anything of worth to note. The horses stall on the side of the house was empty, but they knew the man took the horse. The feed stores nearby were recently accessed, but that could have been at anytime in the last three days or even on the day he left if just using his hand to fill the pouch. Shoot, it could even have been someone just picking over this empty house. Then it rings like a bell, the woman is gone too! Surely she wouldn't have just left town without notifying the guard.
Genesh looked at the bard Olwer and shrugged, "should we search the place further, see something got left behind? You never know. Since there is no inn to stay at, we might want to tell the others about this house being abandoned and bed down here instead of out in the woods, what do you think?"
When the tortle got a chance he would show Olwer the Pike's Pearl and let him look it over more closely as Genesh told him how where it got it, that it was magical and what the jeweler had told him about it being prized by druids, etc. More or less everything he knew. "What do you think, have you ever heard anything about a Pike's Pearl? I don't think it relates to this case but you never know, and it could in one way or another possibly be helpful or useful to our investigation."
If Olwer if open to investigating the abandoned house more closely then Genesh will offer toHelp the bard so Olwer can make his Investigation roll with advantage if he so chooses.
"Magical, you say? And it came out of a fish? Amazing! I'm pretty sure I don't know what it is. But I recall an old song about a boy who caught an enchanted fish. I'll play it for you later, if you like. Could even be some clue in there..."
Looking about the derelict house, Olwer says,
"Stay here? Maybe. We'll be glad of a roof it it rains tonight. Let's check it out first. I'd be glad of your help looking through this place, Genesh."
