Seraph answers, "Yes, that does sound like a good idea. Blast the creature on top apart or at the very least, get it out of the way long enough for me to drop the Cloud Kill jar into the nest's shaft. The department says the jar should be enough to kill most of the insects but be prepared to run if it doesn't work. With that being said, I'm ready to drop it as soon as the way is clear."
With that, Seraph grips the jar of Cloud Kill in his hands and Ready himself to move up to the nest and drop it down the shaft as soon as the insect moves.

Kell sighs. "No need for that. I could blast the whole nest, but for just one?"
He pulls up his arms, and swirls of black surround them. The crystal on his staff lights up, and he forces the summoned magic through it, shaping the raw force to his will. What emerges is a cloud of white dust.
((Kell casts sleep, centred around the single insect. If the insect has less than 27 Health he falls asleep))

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
You watch as the ant guarding the entrance of the nest goes rigid for a moment, and then it settles down and curls up sleeping on the ground. From what you can see now, the coast is clear.
Seeing this, Seraph springs from his position and springs towards the nest. His feet are a blur that barely seem to touch the ground as he races up the mound. He tosses in the air he has been holding, and the moonlight sparkles off of it as it falls down the shaft. A few seconds pass before you hear the shattering of glass and a 'foomph' eminate from below. The sounds of several bodies striking the ground can also be heard as the gas does its grisly work. After a minute passes, you can no longer hear any sounds from the 10 foot wide hole in the ground.
Seraph says, "Well, tell you what. How do you propose we get the acid from the queen then?" Unlike in class, he is not asking a rhetorical question but wants to hear if Kell has any better ideas. Clearly he doesn't want to descend either but is not quite sure how else to go about collecting the acid.
Kell sighs walking over to the nest, careful not to wake the sleeping sentry. he waves seraph over, while casting dancing lights into the nest. (Is the queen within 15 ft?)
From the little light you can see, there appears to be no ants coming out of the hole.
The ant sleeping next to you is roughly the size of a horse. Moonlight reflects of the ridges of its black carapace. Now that you are closer, you can see a pair of mandibles almost as long as your arm. It has an odor to it that reminds you of spoiled milk.
Reviewing your studies, this seems to be a soldier ant. Worker ants are smaller in size. Based off of this one, you would assume that the worker ants are probably the size of a St. Bernard.
(Lightning lure can target a creature of any size. Also, any luck with the dancing lights?)
Kell smiles grimly "I think you might need yu and val as well... They are big buggers."
The lights just illuminate the shaft. You can see that the shaft extends downward for almost 60 before opening up into some sort of chamber. You don't see any ants crawling up.
Seraph says, "Alright. We should descend then but first... We need to take out the sleeping bug. I may not be able to cast spells but I believe your Sleep spell only lasts for one minute. Best we take out now. Kell, Val, do you have any idea how long the jar of Cloud Kill would last and when it would be safe to descend?" He turns to Yu and says, "Yu, would you like to help me to split the bug in half?"
Yu says "all right" in an excited voice. He then takes the coil of rope he had brought, and ties it around a sturdy looking tree. He tugs on it a couple times to make sure it won't slip, then slowly lowers it down the shaft. "I'll go first" Yu says in a slightly more serious tone. Yu Zhong then grabs the rope, places his feet on the ledge and starts repelling down the shaft. Yu Zhong slips when he is going down his claws scratch the shaft side until he gets his tip on the rope again. Yu Zhong yells up " be careful when you're around halfway there, it is slippery. " He then finishes repelling the rest of the way down.
Seraph sees Yu go down and then looks at the unconscious bug. He turns to Val and Kell and says, "Would one of you mind blasting the sleeping bug so it doesn't become a threat later?"
Val looks uncomfortable and glances towards Kell. "Umm...." he shrugs, "I don't really have anything prepared to deal with this." (OOC: Val doesn't have a damage dealing cantrips, and most of his spells are field control rather than damage dealing).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kell looks tired, but he raises his hands anyway. "By all means."
He summons moisture from the air, and condenses it into a vaguely knife shaped object. With a flick of his fingers, it freezes, and he hurls it at the creature. (2nd level ice knife. assuming advantage because of prone)
Attack: 18 Damage: 1 Piercing + a DC 14 dx save or another 6cold damage

((Since it is unconscious, it automatically fails its dexterity saving throw))
The frozen blade flies from your hand and embeds itself deep within the slumbering creature. It is startled awake and lunges towards Kell with a feeling noise as it reaches out with its mandibles. With a flick of your wrist, your conjured knife in the creature explodes, nearly blowing the ant into two separated pieces. It falls to its side and expires as goop pours out of the shell of its body.

Kell stares openmouthed. "Descend? What do you mean descend? They are massive, plus whatever you dropped down there could kill us!"

"Alright." He cracks his knuckles and gets ready to catch any queen that will come out.
