Feeling bored waiting around in the lobby of life, hoping that your application into the town’s adventure league will be accepted (after all it’s your 5th application and you have to be selected at some point, you say to yourself), you decide to pop on over to JDOG’s Tavern for a refreshing tankard of your favorite eye-opener. It was kind of the merchant woman to offer you a few coins for a drink after scaring off the pair of lowlife bandits that were harassing her.
You speak freely of your frustrations to the bartender regarding the overwhelming number of adventurers in town and the also overwhelming lack of actual adventures the town has to offer. Sure, you can run off a couple of bandits on the streets, but you know you are capable of so much more, if only given the chance. The bartender sympathizes with you. She offers, “You know, if you are looking for a little action while in wait for your next adventure, I can offer you a chance to exercise your skills and get your mind off your boredom. It will cost you 1 gp and you’ll need your gear and your wit.” Feeling intrigued (and also bored), you pay the 1 gp. You are directed to go down the hall located across the large room of tables and chairs full with patrons enjoying themselves. “Enter the third door on the right and enjoy yourself,” she says with a smile as she places the gold coin in her pocket.
As you make your way across the tables, a few customers stop and notice where you are heading. They elbow the person sitting next to them and nod in your direction. They smile and gossip but you cannot hear anything specific over the din of the room. You make your way to the hall. You walk down to the third door on the right, take a breath (or was it a sigh), open the door and step inside.
You are surprised to find other people in the room. You ask if they are here for ‘a little action’, to make sure you are in the correct place. They confirm in a friendly manner and all of you start introducing yourselves to each other.

Hello friendly strangers,
I'm new to this DnD stuff and D&D Beyond. I've got the 3 core books (Player's Guid, DM's Guide, Monster Manual). Wow, is that a lot of reading. Rather than running an entire adventure, which I am not up for, I thought I could manage an encounter or two while learning all this stuff.
If interested, bring your level 1 character (from the core rulebooks) and join the campaig: (currently full) I'm assuming by joining the campaign, I will then see your character sheets. I have no idea, but I'm here to learn. You can create your character using point buy system. I'll create enough monsters to get XP to characters to level 2. I'm looking for 4-5 players only. I'm in the Pacific Timezone and expecting multiple posts throughout the day.
This is just focused on hacking and slashing so I can learn the mechanics and Play-by-Post will offer me time to read up were needed. Who knows, if things go well, there could be sequels. :)
So far we have: 1 x half-efl sorcerer 1 x hafling druid 1 x human monk 1 x human barbarian 1 x dragonborn fighter
Looking for 1 or 2 more players (depending how quickly they sign up)
Pay your 1 GP to the bartender, grab your gear and see you on the other side...
After a few brief minutes of meeting and greeting the door to the hallway opens up and well dressed man steps inside the room. The room is rectangular in shape and at one end is a desk facing back into the room. The man walks over to the desk and sits down inviting all of you to find a chair that is scattered around the room and gather around. “Don’t be shy, don’t be shy,” he says as everyone finds their chair and forms a tight semi-circle around the desk. “My name is JDOG and I’m the owner of this tavern. I see that my daughter was able to peak your interests with regards to ‘getting a little action’. Well, I am looking for help to clear out a forest just over the hill behind the tavern. It’s such a beautiful area and I want to build an Inn that will offer cool, fresh air and quiet getaway from the town. However, when exploring the area for the ideal location I was attacked by some kind of monsters. I would like you to clear the area of monsters so I can begin building my Inn. Whatever treasures you find are yours. I just want the area cleared.”
Since you all payed for ‘a little action’, you all feel that this sounds interesting and fair and ultimately agree. “Excellent!,” exclaims JDOG. “It’s about a 20 hour walk over the hill to the start of the forrest. Leave whenever you are ready. Come back any time you need to rest or refuel. And, let me know when you have cleared the forrest.”
Anxious to begin all of you get up from your chairs, shake hands with JDOG, and exit the room. You make your way back across the tavern and exit out of the front. Just after the tavern door closed behind you you hear someone shout, “That’s the one! That’s the one that chased us away from merchant woman this morning!”
Two bandits standing in the middle of the street, surrounded in by a semi-circle of four more bandits, are the same two bandits you chased away this morning. It seems they came back with reinforcements.
Since you all, coincidentally, chased off some bandits this morning, neither of you are sure who this bandit is talking about. Let’s find out.
5
1. Milo Babblebrook - Halfling Druid 2. Elrodin - Half-Elf Sorcerer 3. Valor - Human Barbarian 4. Donnar Nemmonis - Dragonborn Fighter 5. Menttal Silverflame - Human Bard
Menttal Silverflame is taken by surprise as the bandit on the left, of the two in the middle, makes a sudden dash right toward you shouting, “I’ll show you who’s tough!” The bandit attempts to shove and knock Silverflame to the ground.
Bandit #1 19
Menttal Silverflame make a Strength or Dexterity check (your choice) to see if you are knocked prone.
The rest of you are startled, but not surprised since the bandit didn’t come running at either of you. As you all instinctually take a step away from Menttal Silverflame you notice the charging bandit doesn’t have his a weapon drawn. In fact, taking a quick glance, neither to the other bandits. They seem to be watching in idle amusement to see how their buddy does. This may just turn into a slug-fest or bloodbath, who knows.
The Bandit(#1) was able to successfully knock Menttal prone. He and the other bandits erupt in laughter as well as some non-involved onlookers that were just passing by. The Bandit(#1) mumbles under his breath, "I'm just getting started." By the looks of it, he he means business.
(oog) This isn't a true surprise condition where you can't take an action, as the bandit really doesn't have the charger feat (/oog)
There are plenty of stones and pebbles around the entryway to the tavern where all of the heroes are standing. The tavern is built alongside a rocky and dusty road in town. Foot traffic into the tavern is always kicking up stones and pebbles up onto the wooden porch in front of the door. Traffic in the street, either people on foot, horses, or the wheels of carts, also contribute the displacement of such rocks, pebbles, and dirt, but to a lesser extent. Every morning before opening, the tavern employees will sweep off the dirt and rocks back into the street or off to the side of the small landing in front of the door. Yes, they are in abundance along the roads and especially here after weeks or even months of being swept together, but they seldom bigger than a halflings' fist.
Milo can definitely slide a few into his hand as the bandits' focus is on Bandit #1 and Menttal at this moment.
Menttal (@VeloElo) you are up. Take your full turn having been knocked down by the bandit.
As the bandit bowls into Mentall, knocking the bard from his feet, Donnar folds his arms across his chest and chuckles. Shuffling along sideways he'll position himself closer to the rest of the bandits should he need to intervene.
"There it is! Show them who's boss, Menttal!" He'll bark in laughter as the bard casts thunderclap. At the same time he uncrosses his arms in preparation of possible escalation.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Because all other heroes instinctually steps away from the charging bandit, they were luckily unaffected by Menttal's Thunderclap.
Bandit #1's Constitution Saving Throw: 20 Damage if failed: 3
The other bandits' laughing stops abruptly. Seeing Menttal fight back angered them and they now, each want a piece of the action as they start moving in closer. And, as if the gathering of bandits didn't catch the attention of people passing by going about their business, the sudden burst of thunder certainly has. A larger crowd is starting to gather around while a couple individuals 'nope' out of the area.

Just to clarify, do you want us to send in our characters through PM or on this thread?
And how do you want us to do ability scores?
I added my ghostwise halfling druid to the campaign. I used point buy.
