Quiller makes his gold coin vanish with a flick of his fingers. He listens for a while to the conversation about music, shakes his head and says, “Does music kill yer foes? Music does not kill, no. But it makes victory all the more epic. But even to me it is not my main interest. My primary passion lies in the arcane, but music was more or less forced upon me.
Friend, if your family is in need, then how can you turn down a coin? If you dont need it then maybe they would.
Irritated that his personal business is being commented on by a stranger Khoraj turns to the man bluntly responds "I do as I wish sir, and such is no concern of yours." He then makes his way back to his table and book.
OOC: Khoraj is a low CHAR guy so i'm playing it up. actually it touches on the part of being a noble. He would never be in the employ of a merchant as a grain guard, that simply isn't done. But he is a good guy underneath it all and he does have family in the valley. He's young too and youth brings a bit of touchiness and pride. I have three "Twentysomethings" in the house right now, believe me I know. LOL!
Maximilian will spend the rest of the evening playing. He will mostly just play for himself but in case an audience gathers he will start playing a little louder: so that all can hear easily but calm enough to not disturb those not interested in music. In the case that he gets a few listeners Maximilian will perform his special trick: He sets his lute on the table and from his sleeve a mouse springs forth, landing on the instrument. The familiar begins to scamper over the lute playing a crude melody, that when regarding by who its playedby, is still quite impressive, while Maximilian accompanies with the flute.
ooc: do i need to roll performance of a mouse? also the familiar is a mouse, but im using the rat statblock. i think that makes the most sense
After Quiller eats he will retire and get a good nights sleep. In the morning, should nothing untoward happen during the night, he will do two things out of the ordinary: first, see if he can find a small pot (able to hold ~ 1 pint, say) in the kitchen and buy it; second, look in the stables (most Inn's would have one) to see if he can find any of the small mushroom that like to grow in manure piles. After break fast, he will purchase a pint of two of vodka (or its like) from the innkeep, if they have any.
after watching max play, and maybe impressed by the little trick, he retires to his room for the night and sleep as well. in the morning, if nothing happens, he will have his breakfast, check his kit and make sure it's all in good order, secure his cold lunch, store it, and be ready.
Moshet is a bit downcast at not finding his dulcimer, politely declines the flute as he does not know how to play. He repacks his things, grabs his cloak and dishes and heads to the bar.
"Thank you for the meal. If I may trouble you further Mistress Begwiner, might I also know where the temple is? I must procure or borrow some holy water."
Once that is known, Moshet will retire to the room obtained by Dhuhrun. After stashing his gear under his bed, he sets up a small shrine with his amulet and a candle. Lighting the candle, Moshet will use Thaumaturgy to change the color of the flame to a dark navy blue and will re-cast to create ominous whispers. "Emissary watch over our rest, reveal your will to me that I may follow your path without faltering, and grant that I might protect or guide these souls into your embrace."
As the night wears on, the a few hardy souls brave the rain and the wind to come to the Dancing Goat for a drink, some food, and to listen to the music. A few of the individuals do provide some tips to Maximillian, particularly after the display put on by his mouse. At the end of the night, Maximillian has collected 12 sp and 14 cp.
When Moshet approaches the bar and calls the woman “Mistress Begwiner,” she laughs and says “Do I look like a gnome to you. The Mistress is most decidedly a gnome. My name is Sheidul.” (she is about 5’8” tall, and looks like most humans). “There are a couple temples about five minutes away. There is a temple to Vax’halia around the corner and another to Kabrom a little further on. Anpu is not widely worshipped here in the free cities, but, I think there may be a temple to him down by the docks.”
Quiller is able to purchase a beat up old pot for 1 cp, while a pint of liquor is 2 sp. There is indeed a stable behind the inn. Although he doesn’t spot any mushrooms growing inside the stable, there is a small patch of mushrooms growing in the shadows outside of the stable.
By morning, the rain has stopped, with puddles of water scattered around the area. The streets in this area of town are paved with quartz nodules, leaving the road fairly dry.
While the group is eating and getting their gear together, Budeim enters the tavern. “Morning all, Tin is getting the grain loaded up onto our wagon and will meet us on the road a little west of town. As soon as everyone is ready, we’ll hit the road. With today being Magday, we’ll have five days to reach Springholde on Vaxday. That should be good timing, with the village holding their market that day. We’ll be greated like heroes when we come in with a wagon full of grain.”
Khoraj’s horse is brought out by the stable boy, having been well-groomed and cared for overnight. After bringing Khoraj’s horse, the boy goes back inside and soon returns with the pony belonging to Lukas. While not as big of an animal as the horse, the animal will be able to carry Lukas and his gear on the trip.
"I need to run an errand (hopefully). I'll be back in about 10 min."
Grabbing a biscuit and an apple as a quick meal and takes off to the temple of Vax'halia. Once there, he greets a priest; if an acolyte, he asks to speak to his master: "May your life find balance and your heart be light. I am about to begin a journey that might include some peril. Could I trouble you for some holy water? I only have 18 gold, but we are returning here and I would honored to make up any difference to you.
I am in need so that I might invoke the blessing of Anpu (bless spell) on my companions should the need arise. A half-portion would work for the time being as well."
Khoraj inspects the horse with a knowing eye and when he is satisfied he hands he hands a silver piece to he young man with thanks for caring for Sophia his mare. Khoraj will then double checks his straps and other gear and and then mount with ease as the horse and rider suddenly become one.
Max has troubles geting ready in the morning. IF he didnt have responsibilities he would probably stay in bed for half of the morning. But he comes to himself and gets down for breakfast and gets himself ready for the travel. he wears a dark coat that on the inside reveals colorful fabric and decorative feathers. it seems to be a two-sided coat, for either performing or harsh weather. On his back he carries his lute in a leather backpack, on his right side hangs his shoulder bag.

Quin lets out a guttural sound that's not quit a sigh but not quite a groan as he stretches muscles that have not felt the softness of a proper bed in some time. "Uaaahhhhhuuf! Been awhile" Sitting up he swings his legs off the side of the bed and sits a moment contemplating his next move. "Well that was easy enough. At least last night wasn't a total loss. A gold and a room! Heh!" Quin chuckles. "no wonder those guys got duped by those others. Didn't even ask for any assurance that we'd still be here this morning. Bet I could disappear before anybody even knew I was gone. Although, things might be getting a little bit hot here after that thing with that security guard at Babbit's and of course Raghorn. Man I really thought I could make that pull. If that stupid cat hadn't gotten in the way... Oh well, guess I'll ride this out and see where it goes." His mind set, the young rogue slaps his knees with the palms of his hands and rises. He dresses himself in a simple woven shirt and breeches, dons his leather armor, slides in some boots and tops it all off with a brown poncho and wide brimmed black hat before heading to the common room. He's almost finished his large bowl of porridge when Budeim makes his announcement. "Excellent!" Quin exclaims as he pushes back from the table full from the meal. He grabs his pack and heads outside to wait on the tavern stoop. Leaning up against the wall just to the right of the door he flips the poncho over his shoulder as he pulls out a small iron ring that at one time had been part of a horse bridle. He starts to slowly traverse the ring back and forth across the backs of the fingers on his right hand.
Action: should any one besides tavern staff of the other party members enter or leave the "Goat" Quin will purposely flip the ring in front of that person. Then as he makes an exaggerated apology and attempt to retrieve the ring he will pick their pocket.
Quiiler with stash the items in his back pack, eat break fast, talk the cook out of a small amount of grease, which he will stash as well (OCC forgot to ask about that but am assuming it will not cause any serious disruption to the ebb and flow of the adventure).
"I am ready," he announces to those gathering for the journeys start. "May our journey be boring."

When Moshet arrives at the temple of Vax’halia and makes his request for a reduced price on holy water, the priest stares at him briefly before responding “Although the worship of Vax’halia and Anpu both deal with various aspects of death, the deities have different approaches to death. We do not know you, and, have no way of knowing if you are truly on a mission that Vax’halia would deem holy. If you wish to purchase holy water, it is 25 gp per vial.”
Further discussion does not yield any budging on their stance.
There are a few other people in the tavern in the morning, aside from your party and those that work at the tavern. One individual appears to be a good target for Quin, a human male with clean clothes and freshly shaven face. He is definitely better dressed than most of the people that inhabit this area of Gillesburg. Although his pick pocket attempt is successful, the rewards suggest that the victim spent most of his money on his clothing. Quin pockets 1 sp and 1 cp for his efforts (ooc I rolled back to back 1’s on a d20).
Once everyone is assembled, Budeim mounts his own horse and begins to lead the group on the road out of town. Once out of the ramshackle constructions that comprise this portion of Gillesburg, the party is passing through the numerous farms that surround the small city. Although the Gillesburg nobility clamor about the traders in their town, it is these farms that form the backbone of Gillesburg’s wealth. The soils derived from the volcanic mountains that comprise the Torgrahn Mountains make for extremely fertile agricultural fields, while the rains that blow in off the adjacent seas provide ample moisture for the crops.
As the party moves further from the town, gaps start appearing between the farms, with small patches of forest occupying these gaps. Passing one of these gaps, Tinrea appears, riding a wagon drawn by two oxen, with a horse trailing along next to the wagon. The bed of the wagon is filled with burlap sacks.
Budeim greets Tinrea and turns to the rest of the party, “Do any of you have any experience in driving a wagon? Tinrea can do it, but, he’d prefer to ride his horse down the road.”
ooc If you can decide upon a general marching order, go ahead and post it here.
I'd be willing to ride the wagon with Moshet. If he'd be kind enough to loan me the use of his crossbow I could cover him better as he drives. I know I'd said I'd scout but unfortunately my horse took an injury and he's on the mend so that leaves us to look for better options for that role. " says Quin.
Maximilian rummages through his pack as well and pulls out a flute and holds it over to moshet. can you play this?
Quiller makes his gold coin vanish with a flick of his fingers. He listens for a while to the conversation about music, shakes his head and says, “Does music kill yer foes?
