"My, now this is quite the interesting ship." Saiba comments as he walks the gangplank to the top deck. "I'm no expert on ships but she seems fast enough to outrun whatever foes are after you. I'm surprised you ran into trouble on your trip down."
"The pirates of Luskan have quite fast ships," He explains, as he boards the ship. He nods to another drow, this one with long braided white hair, his head covered by a large hat that blocks out the setting sun.

Weizol is acting extremely cautious, however he infers that he's in no immediate danger as his eyes dart from one Drow to the next. His hands grip the straps of his pack tight enough that his knuckles turn white. He stands with his back against a wall, tense as if surrounded by aliens unknowable to him. He who has keen ears would hear him mutter very quietly, "Irinal..."
(It means "forsaken [people]" in elven, derisive way to call drow. It's likely that most elves don't even realize it though since their opinion of the old worshipers of Lolth were so low.)

(OOC: Saiba speaks Elvish)
Approaching the elf, Saiba will clap him on the shoulder reassuringly before commenting quietly, "The Drow of Luskan can be trusted. They are no longer under the influence of the Spider Queen and live normal lives just like you or I." After pausing for a moment, he'll continue with, "I would also be careful what you call them, I do not believe they would appreciate being call Irinal."
At first, the bronze skinned elf looks surprised and somewhat caught off guard by someone catching his comment, in elvish no less. He looks back at Saiba with a blank look as he continues speaking, as if the words coming out of his mouth were the chirping of a bird or something. "What are you talking about? That is what they are. Would you be insulted to be called human?"
It seems he genuinely believes that it's just synonymous with Drow, which in itself is derived from the elven word dhaerow, meaning 'traitor'. "And how do you know whom they worship?"

(There was something on his shield but it's so scratched and faded at the moment that it's impossible to tell what it might've been)
"I do not believe that they are synonymous with one another but you are free to act as you see fit. As for who they worship, just a hunch but I am doubtful that the Spider Queen would be so accommodating to any elf who wished to live on the surface. I fought with one of them when I was younger and he told me that his family had forsaken her; I suspect it might be the same with these fellows here."
"You assume much while knowing so little." The elf says, clearly not accepting the human's forgiving view of Drow easily. However, after a moment of consideration, his attitude softens somewhat. "However, you seem a worldly sort of human. Travel worn, in contrast to my own experiences. In this I will take your words with appropriate weight." He says with a nod.

Saiba will politely nod back in response hoping that the elf does not offend their hosts before turning back to the others, waiting to see what may need to be done before departure.

whim is looking for any important members of the crew. maybe one of them are like the vice captains?
If there is a first mate, you currently cannot see them. You are unfamiliar with the clothing and ranking that they're wearing, but may be able to tell later in the journey.
(Just to clear things up, in the future, you can do a roll, but specify a bit more what you're specifically rolling for. This will speed up the game and help me with telling you how it works out. You're okay, not in trouble in any way. I should have cleared this up earlier.)

Having nothing better to do, Weizol will walk around the ship tentatively to familiarize himself with its structure. If he is to be responsible for its defense for the journey then he should know what he is defending, he reasons.
(He wants to examine the ship for what he can think of as points of weaknesses or places that absolutely should not be lost to an invader. He'll also look for places that are easy to defend or advantageous to fight from. 13)

(Huh. Well, all right then.)
The ship doesn't appear to be damaged or noticeably weaker than any other ship of this same size and build, but you do become aware of some possible tactics that could be more likely to be used against the ship.
First, Jarlaxle said that there was a cargo you needed to protect. You are not aware of what the cargo may be, or if it would be damaged by water, but if an attacker were to damage the hull enough to sink the ship, it would be difficult (but not impossible) for them to retrieve the cargo, if they were aware of it.
Second, the ship does not have many weapons to protect against an attack. It only has a ballista and a mangonel, but you are not sure how practiced the crew is in using these weapons. If they are skilled in using these weapons, an attacker may try to target and destroy them upon an attack. If they aren't skilled in them, they may instead devote their first attacks to attacking the crew, the sails, or the hull of the ship.
Third, the ship only moves by sailing. There are no oars. Because of this, if the sails were to be destroyed in an attack in some way, this could strand everyone in the ship at sea.
Fourth, there are 3 rowboats on both sides of the ship (starboard and port). Each rowboat can hold 4 people. There are 25 crew members, Jarlaxle the captain, and the four of you. In the event of an attack, if the ship were to be destroyed, and you had to flee in the rowboats, there would not be enough room on the rowboats for 6 of the people on the ship.
(Is that the information you were looking for?)
