So how long do adventures normally last (in game time)? It seems like a spell user or most non-fighters will be useless if the job lasts more than a day.
It depends on distance from town, the hexes in the map are a day's travel. I think my current group is on day 3? They are two bards, two warlocks, and a wizard, and they've been managing.

There's 25+ potential players, and parties self assemble (eg, you guys decide who's going on a job), but I don't know what the class breakdown is (*though if you looked through submissions here, you've a good idea). I'd say play what you're interested in playing foremost, but if there is a lack in certain party roles, building a character to fit them might help in being able to join a party.
Some considerations, given the custom rules:
• Rests: you already touched on this, but class features that only come back on long rest will need to be rationed more carefully than those that come back on short rest. Certain classes/subclasses may be benefited by this more than others, but I think in practice, it impacts flavor the most...
• Backpack/slots system: Puny characters won't be able to carry as much loot back. You're part of a party though, so provided there's some sort of muscle in the group...
• Stress: Stress checks may be called for, using Wisdom Saves, so Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Warlock and Wizard may be a touch more hearty in the face of the horrors they experience.
That being said, I think most character concepts are workable in the setting, even with those alterations, but if you've got a long rest focused character who is dumping STR and WIS... might be a tough slog.

Alignment- CN-However, this is not a murderhobo or someone who attacks or abandons his own party. Rather a reflection of how others might perceive him as his motivations are his own. Also, as DMs are more than welcome to use his patron to influence him to do things to add to the story/adventure PCs could see this as him doing random things when really he’s not. In any case, regardless of alignment I don’t want others to ruin my gameplay and I don’t do it to others.
Backstory-
He wasn’t popular as a child. He liked stories of adventure and heroes, but wasn’t big enough to play the hero with other kids. He liked reading and learning new things and that often separated him from others that just wanted to wrestle and roughhouse. As he grew up the girls weren’t mean to him per say, but they never saw him as prime marriage material. While the rest of the town focused on farming, or crafting in various guilds, he focused on learning more about the world, and how to gain more control it. How to gain power and influence. Not to be a villain really, just get more respect. Be in charge.
The book he found was interesting. He’s not sure how it got there, it wasn’t on the shelf in the little used town library before. Maybe it was the dim light, but the pages didn’t seem to look the same at each glance. Sometimes black, sometimes filled with odd squiggles, sometimes filled with his own thoughts both conscious and unconscious. He thought it sometimes revealed secrets but he wasn’t sure. The book itself never looked exactly the same either. Always black, sometimes a smooth small journal, others a large textured grimoire like in stories about mages. Obviously he didn’t really hear whispers, but if he did they promised him knowledge, and secrets, and power, and convinced him to be confident and more if he kept the book. Kept it with him at all times.
One day the whispers turned real, and the images in his head started. Darkness tinged with grey with the silhouette of something or somethings. A muscular man or a beautiful woman with unseen features just for a moment, but when he tries to focus the image(s) become alien, unable to comprehend. Other times the figure (figures?) are nothing like he’s ever seen or had described. They should be frightening (and maybe they are) but mostly they hold promises. Promises kept because now he can do things. Magic things. Not heroic things or powerful things yet. But eventually. But first he must go to Alycron. With the book. Because that’s where the secrets are. The whispers say so.
(I am so sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I really like the warlock character concept, and Trishdale could always use a few more "meddlers with the darkness." Thank you for including an alignment section- your character is perfectly fine and we've even had an evil character played well.
Welcome to the game!)

Hmm, ok. Thanks for responding quickly. I’m still interested but thinking over my character choice.
Speaking of: I notice that’s a lot of squishies, do you need something tougher around?
