While wielding a shield and a creature you can see attacks a target other than you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll.

Basina Fairfoot- Halfling paladin Shadow through the forest (Shadow) - Tabaxi Ranger (beastmaster)
Gorokum almost pauses in the fight when he sees the gorilla spawn creature Jadyn just touched crumple almost into dust. He would have to see if Jadyn could teach him that spell some day.
Focusing back on their attackers, Gorokum moves to face the closest creature still standing (Spawn 1). He raises his longsword, and then shouts "Ferrum viridi flamma." Green, crackling flames rise from the edges of his sword. With all the might he can muster he slashes down at the creature, letting the magical energy flow through him.
(Casts green-flame blade and attacks with his long sword - Attack: 17 Damage: 20 and if it hits, he uses Power Surge to added an additional 3 points of force damage.I don't think another spawn is within 5' of the first, but if it is, on a hit the green flame would jump to the second spawn and do 5 damage).

Note to self: prepare Inflict Wounds. Thought Thoradin as he watched one of the enemies be overwhelmed by a veritable wave of necrotic energy. Sure, it was probably a lucky shot, but he couldn't argue with its effectiveness. That left one and he repeated his attack from a few seconds ago. No sense wasting stronger magic on it.

Note to self: prepare Inflict Wounds. Thought Thoradin as he watched one of the enemies be overwhelmed by a veritable wave of necrotic energy. Sure, it was probably a lucky shot, but he couldn't argue with its effectiveness. That left one and he repeated his attack from a few seconds ago. No sense wasting stronger magic on it.
Jadyn puts both of his palms on Spawn 1 who is attacking him and casts inflict wounds at 1st level.
