Ioben - Ireena scowls a little,"Cold, wet, and miserable."she groans."But pleased to finally be in Vallaki - feels safer here." Ismark nods and huddles closer to his sister,"Will be happier once we get to St. Andral's church. You'll be protected there."
Dormark coming back to consciousness grabs head again and says, “I don’t like these visions why won’t they stop..? Anyways I need to ask a favor of the party if you would let me.”
Baern's thick brown hair is disheveled to say the least upon waking on this rainy morning. "Not bad. My feet were throbbing when I took off my boots last night, but they seem better now. You"
"Are you cold Ireena? I could maybe...um... I could see about a fire, maybe, if there's space and, ah, enough dry wood." He glances around for dry wood in the warehouse, enough space to safely light a fire and overhead for enough space for the smoke to dissipate.
Rubbing his head while listening to Ioben and Dormark the dwarf adds "I had dreams again too." "What is it, Dormark?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ioben stood by the entrance to the warehouse staring out at the rain. He was glad that this hadn’t started a few hours ago while they were still on the road. Around him, the warehouse offered adequate protection, though he still had to be careful to avoid the odd pool of water. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the stone he had received back at the camp and started to inspect it closely. He hadn’t really had a chance to look at it yet.
The stone was clearly shaped like a raven, a bird Ioben had seen plenty off around here. They had never been a sign of anything good. Still, something about this carving felt pleasant and inviting. The green eye was entrancing and Ioben stared deep into, finding a sense of rest and peace. A welcome break from the trip so far. This was something he would have to hang on to.
as he studied the stone he tried to see what he could learn about it. Perception: 18 Arcana: 9
Valerie slowly gets up from her bedroll and clear her eyes. She mutters. "Hhmm. Another strange dream."
Then she turns to Ireena who asked the question. "I hope you had a good slept too?" She looks out of the window. "Look like I can’t have my morning training today."
Sandu - Radu gives you a look of defeat,"Ya drive a 'ard bargain friend. Very well - bu' once the deal is done there's no refunds!". After accepting the money for the ring he shall bid his farewells and declare that he is,"Goin' ta the Inn. Afta all I've been through, could use a comfy bed." With that he makes a comment about arranging to collect his wares at a later date and heads off in the direction of the Blue Water Inn.
Sandu handed Radu thirty gold pieces, his crossbow and a box containing twenty bolts in exchange for the ring.
'And thank you, my friend, for selling.'He grinned at the merchant. 'I know this is going to make someone quite happy.'He slipped the ring into a pocket so he could get a closer look at it later.
After Radu had left and the others were busy settling in for the night in the barn, Sandu sat himself a bit apart from the group. There was a task he wanted to do and he figured he could just some solitude for it. Spread before him were three objects of note: the ring he had just acquired, hoping there would not be any more hefty costs going forward, the magical shield Ioben had asked him to take a closer look at an last, but certainly no least, the book contained within the box they had found in the Vistani camp.
Sandu first picked up the shield. It felt heavy to him, likely because he was not familar with such implements. He examined it from all sides until he was satisfied with the conclusion that it was, indeed, a shield. He hefted the shield in one hand and tried to swing it around like he imagined a soldier would. After a couple of swings, his arm got tired so he placed the shield back on the floor. There was nothing more he could gleam from it. He knew there was a spell most magic initiates use to gather information on magical items and whatnot but for the life of him he could not remember what it was. With a sigh Sandu shifted his attention from the shield to the ring.
It was more or less a repeat of the shield. He knew enough of the shield's magic aura to sense a similar effect coming from the ring. Sandu once more regretting not knowing that identification spell. He turned the ring over in his hands a couple of times before slipping it on his right ring finger on a whim. It was odd: the ring was not too loose or too tight nor did it feel uncomfortable in any other way. Sandu held his hand in front of his face and wiggled his fingers a bit, admiring and judging how the ring looked on his finger. After a couple of seconds, he turned from the ring to the last item in the line-up.
Images of what had happened in the Vistani camp flooded Sandu's mind when he gazed upon the book. It was old and hefty with the key sticking out of the lock, tantalizing him to unlock it. Which he did. The key turned with a soft click. There was no resistance or scraping as the metal lock unlocked, something Sandu found odd considering the age it must be. With measured movement and efforts, he turned the book open to the first page and and read until the weariness of the day made the letters flow into each other. Sandu had barely the presence of mind to close the book and turn his cloak and backpack into something of a makeshift cot before sleep overtook him.
Then the dream happened.
A drop of cold water falling on his forehead caused Sandu to wake up. It was not the most pleasant of mornings: his back ached a bit, his forehead was wet with rainwater and it sounded like a storm was raging outside. He had worse, yes, but it never bodes well to wake up in the morning and immediately regretting the day ahead. He wiped his brow and moved to a better position out underneath the leak in the roof. After he had stretched and scratched any spot that needed scratching, Sandu took stock of what the others were up to in the morning. He spotted Ioben standing at the entrance of the barn. Sandu suppressed a yawn, picked up the shield and made his way over to the half-elf.
'So about this shiiiiieeeeeld,' yawned Sandu, 'the most I can figure is that it has an abjuration charm on it. Protective magic.'He shrugged. 'I don't know, maybe it can block harder or something? You'll probably get a better measure of it when using it. Or you could ask Dormark.'Sandu turned his head to nod at the warforged cleric. 'If he can turn coins into weapons, I'd figure he knows more about this stuff than I do.'For now at least. Sandu mentally added.
OOC: - Fiddle around with the shield Ioben picked up from the feral druid - Put on the ring bought from Radu before sleeping (Do these count for how figuring out magic item properties/potential attunement is ruled?) - Read the book taken from the box from Madam Eva's camp - Long rest + dream - Giving the shield back to Ioben
After Sandu's remark Dormark nods and says, "That is the point I wanted to bring up. I have a spell that can identify the magical effects of an object and I can cast it any time if I have 10 minutes to use on the object. However one of the spell components for the spell is a pearl worth 100 gold. The spell does not consume the pearl so once we have I can perform the spell at any time. From what I have seen from Barovia a lot of beings of darkness gather here. I would not be surprised if the same can be said of the magical items as well. I have around 30 gold I can put down on the pearl. If anybody wants to join in on the purchase for our safety, I would be grateful."
The subject still bugging him, Baern remarks "I'd help, if I had much gold, and if the prices here in Barovia were at all reasonable!" "Did you hear of one for one hundred gold here, or is that the normal cost where you're from? Dwarves and pearls don't cross paths too often where I come from, hehe."
Baern -Ireena gives you a broad smile,"That sounds like a great idea! You can make fire on a whim?"
Valerie - Ireena nods at your words,"Hopefully the weather lets up soon. I slept well, thanks. Glad to finally feel safe."
Ioben - You spend most of the morning considering the properties of the stone. You have heard mention of similar items before - oftentimes referred to as 'luckstones'. ((From a mechanical perspective - given the relatively common nature of the stone, coupled with a high Arcana roll you are able to discern it's properties (+1 bonus to ability checks and saving throws) and attune to the item.))
Sandu - Please roll 1d10.
Dormark & Galqarin - Ismark fidgets a little, still huddled next to Ireena. "If you had found us in better days..."he lets the thought slip,"Back before my parents died. We had a lot more then; reputation, money... gems. Most of the family heirlooms were flogged - I would not be surprised if the Vistani have most of it." He says agreeing with Galqarin. "My mother had a necklace containing real pearls I believe. Might be worth checking with the Vallaki Burgomaster... if you need anything that expensive. Well, it's the first place I'd check."
A luckstone. Ioben couldn't believe his, well, luck. A gambler couldn't ask for anything more than a little luck on their side. He would have to look a little closer at this later and make sure that he would have to look at it a little closer and make sure he was getting the full benefits of having this in his possession. Around him, the rest of the group were stirring. Dormark mentioned the pearl he would need to cast his spell."I would be happy to chip in some money. If it means it helps us get out of here, I have 20 gold available." Ioben walked back to sit with the group and looked through his bag for something to eat.
"That should put us at 70 gold at them moment, if we do the job your friend suggest Galqarin we should have close to enough gold to purchase a pearl. Baern the other clerics taught me the spell when I was with them. For magical spells some of them need components of at least of a certain quality to work, there is a chance that we may know of some magical items, but anything cursed or powerful will hide there effects unless we use the spell. Anybody hungry? I don't need to eat so you can have my food," says Dormark offering his rations.
Bearn smiles back at Ireena, although suddenly gets a bit shy and nervous with her attention on him. "I, ah, I'm...not...sure?" "I keep finding new things I can do..." Assuming it is safe and at least someone appropriate to light a fire here, Baern concentrates and waves his hand over a patch of dirt on the warehouse floor, perhaps near a large, open door. Using [Tooltip Not Found] and a few sparks, but they are more akin to lightning via Shocking Grasp than fire.
"Well, I guess it's the old fashioned way before you freeze"he says to Ireena, pulling out his tinder box. After lighting a tiny fire and feeding in a few more pieces of wood, Baern says "here, you can have my cloak." "I don't get cold easily."
Sitting back down again the dwarf ponders the source of his newfound power and the question of making fire. "Kord the Stormlord may be granting me power more akin to lightning and thunder than fire. That would make sense, I suppose. I don't know if Moradin is involved in what is happening with me. If I did have fire, that could be related to Moradin and the forge, but I guess not."
"Do people follow Kord or Moradin here in Barovia? If there aren't any dwarves really, then there's probably not much talk of Moradin, huh? At least he must watch over this realm a bit, so that Dormark can wield his power."
Sandu shoved the shield into Ioben's hand so he could have a hand free to rub his eyes. There was still a flimsy white haze of sleep covering his left eye and he was vehemently rubbing his fist against his eye to clear it out. As he did so, he listened in on what Dormark was asking.
'I can chip in 5 gold pieces if needed.' Sandu's words came out a little awkward as his hand kept mushing a quarter of his face.
There was something else nagging at his head, other than that darn haze in his left eye. 'Did we all have the same dream or vision again?'This damned eye! 'Nobody else concerned that Radu is selling us out to Rahadin?'I can't get this white out of my eye! 'And what do you think he gave the dusk elf?'What in the Nine Hells? 'Is anyone missing something?'
Sandu stopped rubbing his eye. The white was still there. It was in his eye. In shock, Sandu noticed that he could not see out of his left eye anymore.
"We mean nothing to him and there is no reason why he should be concerned about our well being. If there is one thing that we can trust, it is that Radu will look out for his own best interests. I say we use him just as much as he plans to use us."
Galqarin pulls himself upright and sneaks a glance towards the dwarf. There doesn't seem that much difference in the length of his beard.
“Like a baby,” Ioben says with a chuckle “If you ignore the odd surroundings and strange dreams. What about you?”
Ioben gets up and stretches before looking for some food in his backpack.
Ioben - Ireena scowls a little, "Cold, wet, and miserable." she groans. "But pleased to finally be in Vallaki - feels safer here." Ismark nods and huddles closer to his sister, "Will be happier once we get to St. Andral's church. You'll be protected there."
