Kurstin gently nudges the bigger Brock out of the way and moves to stand in front of the door. He examines the lock as he pulls out a set of lockpicks from a belt pouch. He probes gently, looking for traps in the lock or around the door. (Investigation: 6) As he works, an observant party member might catch him with his tongue slightly out and to one side, subconsciously moving in rhythm with the tools...
"No traps here!" he says confidently and proceeds to pick the lock. (Thieves' Tools: 15)
Danse sighed, frowning at the head-on strategy. It was fine, as long as he wasn't in the frontline. Leave that to Brock. Danse followed behind, keeping an eye out for passerbies taking an interest in their activities. He wasn't concerned with anyone recognizing him. He stood out, after all.
@Kurstin - after some fiddling with the locks, you hear the familiar click and release inside the door mechanism confirming you successful unlocking of the door...
Brock would almost pout a bit as the door is unlocked before he got a chance to try to kick it down. Displays of strength are great ways to boost your reputation after all. Once the door was unlocked Brock would grab the handle and slowly open the door before sticking his head inside to see if there were any enemies around.
Kurstin smiles to himself, happy to have proven his worth already. While the rest of the group looks about inside, he pulls out a small rock with several runes painted on it and tucks it into his belt so it is ready to toss in a blink. He then unstraps his light crossbow, cocks it, and loads a bolt. Kurstin will follow the others into the room, peering about with his enhanced vision into the dark corners.

7-1: When Kurstin spotted the children in the warehouse, his heart leapt to his throat and started pounding like a racehorse! He was about to call out to see if his sister was here, when a dog started barking. "Cr@p,"he muttered under his breath.
Then he heard the voice from above calling out. "Cr@p and cringles!" he exhales. Focusing on the dog, Kurstin swings the crossbow to take aim and pulls the trigger, hoping to quickly silence the mutt and perhaps keep the bully upstairs.
7-1: Assuming the arrow misses - Brock would quickly draw a piece of meat from his pocket and bend down on one knee. "SHH!" He would motion with his free hand while tossing the meat towards the creatures feet with the other. "Go ahead girl... eat up.." He would whisper towards the snarling beast motioning towards the meat.. hoping the dog didn't notice the bolt that sailed past and embedded itself in the wall.

OR if it hits
As the bolt pierces the creatures skin, he would race forwards and slide across the dirty floor, attempting to grapple the creature and hold its mouth shut... hoping to prevent it from making any further noise!

Chapter 7 act 1:
Kai focused less on the dog, watching the scene of Kurstin rush into combat with the beast over possibly parleying the beast. Gritting his teeth, he leaves combat with the mutt to those better suited for such tasks, and moves for the stairs, aiming to make a move towards the voice that he assumes to be their target before he can ready himself or flee. Dashing, he doesn't call out and focuses on moving forward.

Seeing the snarling dog and the huddled children, Radgar stepped forward without hesitation. Holding his hammer in front of him he snarled under his breath 'No more out of you, ye mangy cur'
Danse's usual whimsical expression instantly converted to one of focus and rage at the words uttered by who he assumed to be a guard keeping watch over future Lamm's Lambs. The tattood canvas of the Half-Elf's skin shifted into something quite frightening in the dimly lit space as he considered what to do next. The dog seemed to be taken care of in a variety of fashions, but he was more concerned with the voice emanating from above. Danse quickly accompanied Kai forward, twirling mid-stride. As he spun around, the soft slide of blades exiting their scabbards can be heard, and two gleaming scimitars, colored to match Danse's face, appeared in his hands.
There was no sympathy for the man who had imprisoned these children in Danse's heart, but there was some left over for the children. Danse took a moment to place an inked finger to his similarly inked lips, instructing them to be quiet as to not alert their common enemy any further. He then twirls against a wall, scimitars at the ready. Can Danse make an estimate of which entrance the sound came from, and find a hidden or defendable place to launch an attack from, should the person who spoke enter?
Seeing the dog snap at his companion, Brock would shake his head and quickly raise up to his feet. "Alright, guess there ain't no saving this mut." The bearded mountain of a man would grumble as he circled around behind the dog and lept into the air. As his hulking frame fell towards the mangy dog, he would hold his elbow under his body so that the full force of his blow would be focused through his elbow and into the dogs spine.
*assuming I land on the dog* Brock would slam his elbow down into the back of the creature while simultaniously rolling around to grab the creature around the neck and torso, working to wrap his thick arms and legs around the creature!
Bonus action grapple! 11
"Ya shoulda takin the meat!" Brock would shout as he wrestles with the dog, trying to keep it from getting out of his grasp and hurting anyone else.

Kai suffers a heavy glow as the flail struck him on the side of the head, almost taking him down. Still, he was raised in a military family and knew a small bit about biting down pain. Keeping himself on his feet, he knew that he wouldn't be able to suffer another strike like that, and opted to cast at the bastard instead. "Shut your mouth and go to sleep." He dropped the accent and fake tone as his head hurt too much to maintain it as he cast the magic at the man's head, aiming it carefully to not catch him or the children below.

(YAY! I got a chapter name =)
Kurstin quickly reloads his crossbow and takes aim at the giggling half-orc - a moment too late to prevent the massive blow he inflicted upon Kaisaras. He exhales slowly and gently pulls the trigger mechanism, releasing the eight inch shaft of wood and metal at the maniacal torturer. Attack: 18 Damage: 4 With a resounding thrummmm, the spring-loaded mechanism in the artificer's crossbow sends the projectile true, piercing Giggle's armor and driving almost its entire length into his torso, possibly even puncturing a lung and cracking some ribs on the way in.
Once the bolt is in the air, Kurstin will move as close as he can to Kai. (Can I stay on the ground and reach his leg on the steps? If not, he'll go to the steps leading up and as close as he can get...)
Chapter titles will usually come from fun lines/ actions that the PCs do that chapter :)
@Rhanloi: the catwalk where Kai & Giggles are located are 10+ feet above the main floor. I'll say due to the angle, you'd have disadvantage on an attack roll with a reach weapon or a range weapon (unless you stepped back a bit to get a better angle of the Half-Orc).
(So my intent is for Kurstin to shoot first from his current position across the room, and then move to get close to Kai. This will be his 2nd crossbow shot.)
