Please follow these guidelines as they're there to make the game fair and smooth. If you have any questions about what they may mean or have suggestions for how they can be changed, please send me a private message.
Outside of Combat
Make sure the rest of the party has a say in a decision. If a player has not been able to make a post in response to something, don't just move on without them. In general, just make sure everyone in the group has a say in what the party does.
Checks & Rolls
Do not make a check or a roll of any kind unless directly told to do so by the Dungeon Master. Any rolls made without direct permission will not be accepted.
Roleplaying
When you want to speak as your character, use double quotes surrounding the text you wish for your character to say. When describing what your character does, use italics and make sure it is in first person. To speak out of character, preface your sentence with OOC: and put the text in bold. Please do not make posts with excessive amounts of large font sizes.
Speech Example- "Why's it always gotta be goblins, dammit!"
Action Example- I sheathe my sword and run for the exit.
OOC Example- OOC: What happens when I have advantage on a roll? I forgot lol.

In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days' travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big," and that he'd pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business."
You've spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you've just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You've encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
Everyone should introduce their characters (remember to stay in character). Think about how you came to know Gundren, even if it's something as simple as you found a job listing on a bulletin board. Everyone also needs to determine marching order.
The cart you're escorting is big enough to seat everyone in the back and also hold the supplies. There is enough room for two people to sit on the driver's seat. The supplies are contained within nailed crates and sealed casks and covered with a tarp. The cart is pulled by two oxen, and can easily be driven by anyone. The cart travels at normal pace. It is currently mid-day, and skies are clear.
Sitting precariously on top of the supplies on the back of the cart and constantly looking around - the world is such a wonderful place after all, why would you ever want to miss a moment of it!, a grin spreads across my freckled face and I hungrily grasp for a small, weather-beaten piece of paper situated in one of the many pockets around my bodice. I clear my throat twice - perhaps a little too loudly the first time, and too softly the second - hoping to gather everyone's attention.
"M... My name is - is FAE-yra Aeb-ERO-s. I'm so hap-PY to BE with all of you! If - if MY talk-ING is too LO-ud or... too quiet, it's BECA-use I'm deaf. DON'T WORRY, I CAN read lips very WE-ll! JUST remember TO tap me or GRA-b my attention when YOU need to sp-EAK to me! I HOPE I don't ANN-oy any of YOU!"
Satisfied, I glance around, my smile widening, and tuck the slip or parchment back into my pocket.
"SHALL I pla-Y a TUN-e? I've be-EN told my MUSIC is MO-re CONSI-stent than my spe-ECH!"
I pull out my trusty lute which was strapped to my back and get ready to pluck a peaceful tune.

OOC: Roll for Performance I assume?
Faeyra attempts to play a peaceful tune on her lute.
Performance Check
Difficulty: 10
Check: 11 (Proficient in Performance skill grants +2 and +3 from Charisma)

Faeyra plays a soothing and peaceful tune that makes the otherwise boring trip more tolerable.
I face forward, staring down the path while driving.
"I'm Schade!" I yelled to the back, not caring if anyone even heard. "Why can't these ox can go any faster.." I wondered to myself, thinking of all the jobs to pick from I went with this.
As the song comes to an end, I give a small smile to myself, and gently put my lute away. After a few minutes of watching the scenery as well as my newly-introduced companions, I clear my throught again, trying to grab their attention.
"SO - how do all... all of YOU KNO-w Gund-REN? I - I was new... IN TOWN, and he just - just WAL-ked up to ME, and ask-ED if I wanted to do a job!"
My grin widens at the memory, my eyes constantly looking around at the forest surrounding us.
"I didn't... didn't KNOW ANY-body - in FACT, I had NEVER left my home town 'till, say, THRE-e months... months ago! I SAID YES because he said - said it was... IMPORTANT! Of co-URSE I AGREED to help him - that's - that's what heroes DO!"
After a moment of silence, gathering my thoughts, almost inaudibly I whisper;
You’ve been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.
As the cart comes to a sharp stop, I nearly fall off, giving a quick yelp. Noticing the commotion after a few moments, I hop down, making my way towards the horses, one hand fingering the rapier sheathed on my left hip, my other arm grasping the lute strapped to my back.
OOC: I have +3 to Perception, can I roll to examine the horses and the arrows?

Examining the horses would be Investigation.
Faeyra takes a closer look at the horses.
Investigation Check
Difficulty: 10
Check: 19 (no modifiers)
Success
Faeyra inspects the horses and finds that they were the horses belonging to Gundren and Sildar when they left a few days ago. The horses have been dead for about a day, and it's obvious that the arrows killed them. The saddlebags have been looted and an empty leather map case lays nearby on the ground.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Faeyra finishes inspecting the horses, Alastar approaches and attempts to drag the horses off of the road. As she does this, an arrow lands next to her, making a strong impact on the ground nearby. A goblin can be spotted on the left side of the trail on top of the embankment, then another, then two more on the other side of the trail atop the embankment. The goblins jump out and attack.
The Goblins challenge their Stealth against the party's Passive Perception to attempt to surprise them.

Passive Perception
Alastar: 10
Damris: 15
Faeyra: 13
Schade: 11
Alastar is the only one surprised. Everyone else spotted the goblins a few seconds before they jumped out.
Slightly startled after the goblin's missed attack, I remove my hand from the lute on my back and prepare to strike the Goblin (OOC: Goblin 3) with my rapier, attempting to stab the Goblin through the chest, aiming for the heart.

Sitting in the wagon I fiddle with a silver ring. I think to myself that the pay for this better be good.
I turn my head to Faeyra in response to her introduction.
”Name’s Damris, and a song sounds like a great way to pass the time”
I glance up at Faeyra from where I am sitting on the back of the wagon, leaning back against a crate.
"I am Alastar." I tell the bard quietly, making sure she is looking at me before I start talking. "Do you know the song 'Vorziros and the Snake'?"
I face forward, staring down the path while driving.
"I'm Schade!" I yelled to the back, not caring if anyone even heard. "Why can't these ox can go any faster.." I wondered to myself, thinking of all the jobs to pick from I went with this.

"Hey! We got trouble ahead" I yelled to the back.
I look ahead at the horses and reach for my bow.
“Well, there goes any hope of this being an easy job.”
