He turns to the dwarf who spoke, "Yes, Duradin. They may not be dwarves, but they are all adventurers of some renown,"
Vor:
His voice in your head notes, "Even the one who wasn't invited.".
Turing back to the group, he says "Me father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father (ooc note: that's 10, if you don't want to count) was a dwarf warrior of legend. He wore a suit of enchanted armor the was an heirloom of the Frostbeard line. When he was killed in battle with the drow, he was buried in a tomb unmarked so the durned dark elves couldn't find it. Recently, me scouts found what they believe to be the tomb. I'm needing ye to go and recover that armor for me. I'll reward ye greatly for it. Duradin, I'm sending ye with them."
Plucking up some semblance of courage, Tom speaks up, "This is a great task which you would entrust to us, your Majesty. Is there a chance we may speak with your scouts, did they run into any trouble whilst undertaking their mission?"
He spreads a map on the table. "It lies here, a few days' travel from the hold. They haven't seen any trouble at the tomb, but there has been increased draconic activity in the area."
Tegid listens to see if there's anything untold (insight 9), "surely if the scouts have found the tomb it would be an easy matter for some trusted dwarves from your retinue to go and search for this treasure. Unless, there is something else to be revealed?"
Ava shifts in her seat, watching her new companions reactions. Sitting up in her chair a little taller she asks in a quiet voice, "Um... m'lord.... may I inquire about any compensation for our troubles? Especially if there is a chance we encounter a dragon." Having spoken she sinks back into her chair. Under her breath she mutters, "Well I hope you have some advice for dealing with bloody dragons." She doesn't seem to be talking to anyone in particular.
Vor looks nonplussed at the king's mention of a dragon. "Um, dragon ... greater dragon, yer highness? Er, what bes the sort o' dragon ye bes talking aboot? I mean, I loiks roasty dragon meself, jes ain't to keen on bein' roasted by one, if ye ken."

"Gold and Mithril, among other things. And of course, any treasure beside the armor that you find."
Duradin looks a little scandalized by Vor's commentary. He tries to choke out a response, but settles for a grumpy silence. After a pause,
"We'll be seeing the quartermaster then, I suppose. Supply requisitions for the journey. Perhaps ponies, or horses I suppose, if they can be spared. Any word as to the conditions of the roads on the way? This is the old country, if I'm not mistaken - old sparring grounds for the ancient Drow battalions training to slay their surface-dwelling kin. Still, one of the old highways might make for a quick path, and room for a wagon would help a deal. When should we leave, your majesty?"
Tom nods along eagerly at Duradin's words, "Great points, great points."He turns to the king and says,"I believe it may also be advantageous for that Brewmaster of yours to provide a number of kegs of that rather nice ale for the journey. It may well come in useful."
Looking their new dwarven friend over with a new look of appreciation, Ava smiles a bit. Standing up, she gracefully bows to the king. "M'lord, if it pleases you, I would go with Duradin to the quartermaster and set off on this quest as soon as possible. If draconic activity is increasing the sooner we finish this the better. And if you have found the tomb, I doubt it shall stay secret for long."
So there was no danger but they needed a group of experienced adventurers to go there? And the King couldn't just send a bunch of his subjects there? Were they all otherwise occupied? None of these details added up at all. More likely, there was great danger and he did not want to risk his dwarves. In fact it could be a suicide mission, but that's an adventurer's life, he supposed. The dwarves and their long dead ancestor meant very little to him, but these other adventurers did. He had his own goal, after all, and they seemed quite capable. Maybe after they were done here, they'd be willing to help him out.
Tegid muses internally, "well, that's kings for you - each have their own reasons to keep their own counsel"
Tegid takes the information in, also looking around at his new "companions?"
"Very well, o' King. May I have a look at the map per chance?"
And to the others "Perhaps we should a minute or two while gathering provisions, and in our own company introducing ourselves, as it seems we all have varied pasts"

Tom looks directly at the King attempting to discern his reaction to the questions posed so far,"Is there any form of time-frame on when you expect us to retrieve armour? If this has been lost to your family for many years, why now? Have previous attempts been made to return your heirloom?"
Insight: 2 ((*coughs* - natural '1'))
Addressing Tegid, Tom mutters, "Might be a good idea to get to know one another... depends on the urgency of this task though."
He has heard what the king wants but like the others, he feels that maybe all is not as it seems.
Ash gets up from his seat and waits for his turn to speak. " I don't know much about dragons but do you know what kind we are going to encounter? Just to be as ready as possible and be sure to bring you back what you seek." Once done he sits back down.
"Ye'll be leaving tomorrow. There isn't a definite time frame, but sooner rather than later would be preferred. By all means acquire supplies for the journey. Primary red and white dragons, though all of the chromatics have been seen."

Duradin's face adopts a stonelike mask, and he bows his head. "As you command, majesty. Where lies this tomb of your great ancestor?"

"Mithril?" Vor gets a dreamy look in his eyes. "Always wanted me a tunic o' Mithril."

" Lead on brother in arms and let's get ready."
