“And don’t you forget it.” Vahorn tries to get in, before Noelle takes back her compliment.
“My family owned these lands long before the humans took it from them, like a crying baby snatching at a toy just to break it.” Vahorn glares particularly at Noelle for a second before bringing his attention back to the ground. “This place, it‘s special. Noell gets it, but these others, they don’t know what they have.”
"Well, I'd like to think some more of us do, but obviously, not enough people take the danger seriously. The forest is a wild place, and this town is so settled that I think sometimes the villagers forget that. Aleesa and her friends obviously don't understand that, but she's still just a kid compared to us, you know? I can only hope she'll survive to have learned that lesson the hard way," Noell says with a hint of worry. "I really hope the others manage to grill those kids at the candy shop. But we should get a move on, too. Shall we?"
Lia nods along to the conversation, adding the occasional "Mmhmm"or "Interesting"where it seems appropriate. She doesn't fully understand Vahorn's metaphor, but she isn't about to prompt him into a speech about it.
"Sounds good," she agrees to Noell's proposal. Turning around to look at the others, she calls,"Meet back here when we're done? If we aren't back by sundown, we probably got eaten by a sinkhole monster."
[[OOC: So it's Dumasz and Hayeth to the sweet shop, and Lia, Vahorn, and Noell into the woods.]]
Sweet Shop: The sweet shop is a fairly small building on the main town square. It is well maintained, brightly painted in bright pastels, and marked by a sign with a brightly colored piece of candy and the word "Sweets". There are some tables out front where two teenage boys sit eating something you don't recognize. You also see Manciple Tobias leaving the shop with a bag overflowing with candies. He laughs sheepishly when you see him and calls out, "For the children, you know?", and makes to leave.

It's actually quite a lovely late afternoon for early spring. You reach the edge of the forest uneventfully. You weren't given any specific locations to aim for, but Vahorn's familiarity with this forest would steer him naturally to places he knows these kids tend to hang out.
[OOC: Vahorn, make a Survival check, with advantage.

Hayeth gives the Manciple a knowing smile and nods respectfully, then after clocking the two teens she looks to Dumasz saying
"I can talk to those two if you want to head inside? Or we just go to both together I'm not fussy!"
“I like your go-get-‘em attitude. You’ve got this.” Dumasz lays a hand on Hayeth’sshoulder and hums a few beats of a Draconic song before heading inside. (That’s inspiration, take a d6 Hayeth)
Vahorn makes his way to the kids normal hangout. “Follow Noell’s lead Lia. She may be a human, but she’s got an elven heart.” He nods at Noell, wordlessly agreeing for her to keep watch as he searches for tracks. They’d worked together so much, they often didn’t need words, which suited Vahorn just fine. Getting down on his hands and knees, he sniffs the ground before taking a small sample of dirt, tasting it. “Disgusting...... processed sugar...... ”
Smiling at Dumasz in thanks, Hayeth heads over to the table with the teens sitting at the table in front of them
"You two wouldn't happen to know a girl named Aleesa would you? Me and my friends are going yo be looking for her so could use all the information we can get"

Noell nods as she scans the forest intently, keeping an eye out for any signs of life or movement. "It looks peaceful, but if some beast really snatched Aleesa from here, the only thing it will have learned from that is that the forest's edge is prime hunting grounds," she says. She does roll her eyes a bit at Vahorn's comment. "Come on. Ma Blackarm's homemade sweet pastries are the best food in town, and they come filled with both your hated sugars and your beloved berries. It's the best of both worlds!" She gives Lia a knowing wink. "You're just sour because she never gives any to you." Stifling a laugh, she tenses when she spots something in the forest, but relaxes minutely as it turns out to be just a tiny chipmunk, fleeing back into the underbrush. "Hey, found anything yet, Vahorn?"
Lia follows Noell and Vahorn into the woods, staying a few steps behind so as not to mess up their tracking. From years of habit, she keeps her eyes and ears open to the surroundings, wary of any movement or noise. When she sees Vahorn scoop up some dirt and taste it, she tries the same, but it just tastes like mud to her. She subtly coughs it out into her hand, hoping nobody noticed.
First, there have been a far greater than normal amount of snake trackways interspersed through the forest.
Second, the last time any humans were here, one of them definitely went off on their own deeper into the forest. [Survival if you Investigate the trail.]
Noelle and Lia, you both spot two 5 foot long snakes zipping towards Vahorn, mouths agape, revealing huge glistening fangs.
Vahorn, make a perception check, DC 14.

Sweet Shop (Interior): As Dumasz enters the shop, a half-elf man, dark of hair and eye, you'd say in his thirties, with a slightly off-putting smile, says, "Welcome to the Sweets Shop. We don't see many of your type around here." Looking around there is a long counter with stools, and along the wall, many small bins stocked with candy. The air inside seems colder than it should.
Sweet Shop (Exterior): The taller of the two boys places his spoon in the glass dish and responds to Hayeth, "That stuck up princess? I hope she got lost in the woods forever!" The other responds, "Hey, don't wish that on anyone, even if she rejected you." He continues, turning to Hayeth, "Sorry we're just not part of the cool kids. I saw some of Aleesa's friends over by the waterfall though."
