Hayeth rubs her temples and turns away from Vahorn not rising to him and looks to Tobias as he enters and smiles "Greetings Manciple"
After thinking for a bit she turns to the rest of the group"Then what do you all say to going to check with Aleesa's friends to see if we can get anything extra from them and then head to this hole and take a look inside?"

Noell frowns as Vahorn storms out, before rolling her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, you're welcome," she calls after his retreating back.
"Relax, he's always like that to strangers," she says to Hayleth. "All bluster and no malice. Besides, match him... or better yet, show him up once or twice, and he'll get very sullen about it, but you'll earn his respect. Such as it is," she says with a laugh.
Her good cheer dies down as she hears of the missing townsfolk. "I fear the worst for Joe and Derrik. Joe knew what he was doing out there. But Aleesa..."
She nods at Harbin. "I'll do my best by you, sir. And I truly hope nothing has happened --" She jumps as the Manciple barges in and interrupts everyones' conversation to address the mayor, side-eying the man.
"Ugh," she mumbles to herself. "I liked Derrik's manners better. Still," she corrects herself, making a half-hearted attempt at piety, "I guess it'll be good to have the guiding light of Anwyn joining us on our search." The monotone delivery of the statement undercuts the sentiment of her words.
Hayeth takes her hands off the reflexive defense around her book and breathes a sigh of relief
"I'd kinda hoped if he saw I wasn't human he may have calmed a little but I guess I'll have to try something else" she looks at Noell with a smile back
"Regardless I believe it's time we should make tracks I'd imagine some haste is necessary if we are to be successful"

Dumasz gives a nod to the priest before approaching Lia. “We haven’t been introduced yet. My name is Dumasz, it’s a pleasure to meet you. And you are...?”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lia narrows her eyes at the priest's interruption, trying to get a read on his motives. Solely based on his appearance and profession, he doesn't seem the type to blindly throw himself in harms way, so she's curious why he seems so intent on joining them for this job.
Insight: 18
She stands to greet Dumasz when he approaches, extending a hand to shake and smiling. "Lia. The pleasure's all mine."
“Lia I believe there is a candy shop in town that requires some special attention. I love candy. And we can work while we’re there. Care to join me?” Dumasz looks around the room. “Each of you are welcome to join me, but I suspect we’ll cover more ground if we split up. I’d be willing to bet that Vahorn will have an easier time of tracking if we get on this quickly, before we lose the light.”
Dumasz heads for the candy shop with whoever would like to come.
"What do you say, Vahorn?" Noell says as she approaches the silent elf. "Dumasz might be right about splitting up. I think we should try our luck at the forest's edge just to see if we can find any tracks or signs of what direction Aleesa might have been taken." She looks around, then says under her breath,"Or walked, depending on how rebellious she was feeling after arguing with her dad. Besides... I'm not a fan of that Tobias. He just looks like the kind of money that wrinkles their nose down at villages like ours. What's he even doing here? He's supposed to be helping Derrik, not trying to take his place. He'd be better off going to the sweets shop than hiking out to the forest with that paunch anyway," she sulks. Raising her voice again, she says, "We should go while the sun's high. It's not like we have to go traipsing into the forest on our own if we find something. That is, if it is the same problem that made Old Joe disappear. I'm brave, not suicidal."
Vahorn chuckles at Noell’s comments, the first smile since he entered the tavern. He nods to her, “Agreed. The fake berry shop frustrates me anyway. I suppose we’ll come back for them, the dragonborn could be useful, but it will be harder to move unheard with a larger group, not least this bumbling idiot. Him, Derrick, neither have any business going into that forest, I’ve been warning these lot for years.”
Stepping up to Dumasz, the elf leers menacingly into his eyes, baring his teeth. “The drink was good.......” he barks turning his back quickly. ”Noell and I will check for tracks. You can take the bookworm and the Manciple. I want this one.” He points at Lia without looking at her, keeping his eyes to the floor.

”Ahem. Vahorn. This is Lia and Hayeth. I am happy you see a division of resources between tasks as important.” His tone is the calm of talking to a crazy person.
Vahorn nods in the general direction if the half elves, “Vahorn.” He grunts, forcing his mouth into a smile, though it looks more like a snarl. “We will check the edge of the woods for tracks. In case of danger, Lia’s strength may help, you seem light footed, agile and strong like a tiger.”
Harbin responds, "Manciple Tobias, aren't you substituting for Derrik at the Hearth? It's the festival of the First Culling of the herd tomorrow, and the people need a priest."
"I suppose you are right... and I do love fresh mutton...", the Manciple continues, "I suppose this crew looks hearty and cagey enough to get some answers about dear Derrik."
[OOC: The temple is called the Hearth of Anwyn. The festival is a ritual sacrifice of a sheep, followed by a great feast.]

Lia's head bounces back and forth between the two groups forming, realizing she's been caught in a difficult choice. Then her eyes drift over to the Manciple again...
She's about to suggest that he decide and make a snide remark about 'age before beauty' when the Undermayor chimes in again. Plan foiled, she turns to Dumasz and Hayeth and offers an apologetic smile."Guess I'm with them."Lia nods her head in the direction of Vahorn and Noell, not wanting to anger the already grumpy elf.
"Good to have you!" Noell says with a smile, waving Lia over. "Sorry about splitting you off from your new friends, but I'm sure we'll meet up again before the day is out." She looks Lia up and down, then lets out a low whistle. "You got some muscles on you, girl!" Her grin radiates approval. "We'll be pretty strong together, which is just what you want when having anything to do with the wilderness. Still, we'd best not get too cocky here. I'm pretty skilled at hunting, but then again so was Old Joe. We'd better listen to Vahorn when we're out there, he's the best person I know at hearing the forest speak." Smirking, she looks over at Vahorn. "But don't let that get to your head. You might be better in the forest, but there aren't many here who can aim better than I can with Pinaka," she says, patting the heavy crossbow hanging off of her back.
("Pinaka" is the name Noell gave to her crossbow.)
"No worries."Lia waves a dismissive hand. She matches Noell's grin as she walks over, giving her a once-over as well."You're not so bad yourself. I look forward to seeing what Pinaka can do. I'm more of an up-close-and-personal type myself, but that looks like it deals some heavy hits." She nods appreciatively. "So, are you both from around here?"
Noell nods proudly. "Born and raised," she says with a broad smile. "My extended family came here around the same time as the Harbins a long time ago. Settlers from the Summer Kingdoms, the lot of us!" she says, waving at her dusky skin. She doesn't point out her strangely bright blue eyes, which don't quite match that typical human complexion. "We never got the itch to go into politics, though. My dad's a logger, but well... I don't much like the practice of cutting down trees, even if I know it's necessary for the benefit of the town. I learned most of how to handle myself from my mother, though. She was a hunter, too. The rest, I kind of picked up by watching Vahorn. He wasn't always a willing teacher, but I'm persistent!"
Manciple Tobias speaks, "No, I won't be joining you after all, I have duties to the flock, as Harbin reminded me." He leaves unless convinced otherwise.
