I kinda wonder if prestige classes could be super feats...??? With heavy requirements for classes, level, stats, spells, etc etc. I am dying man.
If anyone can do it, it's Keith Baker.
I'm trying a pseudo action point system, but it's not the same. I am heavily considering stealing the 4e version and calling it a day.
I barely played 4E because of my deep deep hatred for the game...lol what was the action point system like in it?

I like the idea of Action points, and in this addition we have a couple mechanics that they could emulate. More so than inspiration giving advantage on a check, an Action point seems like it would fit into the Action Economy, so maybe the use of an action point could grant one of the following:
Action (Reaction) Point: During the course of combat spending an action point can be done as a Reaction to one of the following effects
Being targeted by an AOE Spell effect - [GET OUT OF DODGE] You may move up to your movement speed as needed to leave the Area of Effect for the spell.
Falling to 0 Hitpoints - [I Wanna Live!] You may spend an action point to give yourself 1 successful death saving throw.
Action (Bonus) Point: During the course of combat you may spend an action point as a bonus action to perform the following
[FRENZY]: When you take the Attack action before the end of your next turn you may add One additional attack to your total number of swings.
[DIG DEEP]: You may use a class feature again that recharges on a short rest after it has already been used. (i.e. A first level fighter has used his Second Wind, is desperately low on HP and thus Digs Deep, spends an Action Point and as a bonus action can use his Second Wind ability again without having taken a short rest)
Action (Story) Point: While not in combat you may spend an Action Point to sway the fates in your favor
[Heros Ex Machina] - When called upon to make a skill check you may spend an action point to change your die roll to a 10.
These are just a couple of ideas I came up with off the top of my head. Thoughts?
Dannnnnnggggg, MC!!! Why aren't making games, bro? I swear you have some of the best ideas...lol
I like it, like really like it, but it may be a little off balance. The points and abilities from the points would have to be limited. I mean, with Action points you only get so many as it is anyways. But, if I was a fighter with 6 Action Points and I used all of them for Second Wind, I don't feel like I would ever be afraid of dying. #ImmortalFighter
I really like this idea, I feel like this is something we could work with once we figure out the balancing issue. So I guess that means we have to figure out what Action Points should be in this system. Definitely, need a pool of them, but maybe not so many as they were given out in 3.5?
I also think they can be used for Advantage/Disadvantage rolls, respectively. Like, I use an AP to get Advantage on a roll. Or I could use one to impose a Disadvantage on a roll as well.

Haha, my roommate and I actually worked on putting together a game system a long while back but it felt like reinventing the wheel. There are so many game systems out there you can generally find one that you enjoy and then morph it to what you enjoy even more.
I thought it best to stay away from granting advantage/disadvantage because Inspiration is already a mechanic that's in play. Action points, at least as I saw them, were meant to give the game that sense of high risk high rewards. You do something epic, you get an action point allowing you to do some epic again later. So when I was thinking about the above mechanics I tried to grab inspiration from things that often times removes a players feeling of being epic (like being surprised in combat), or would give them a sense of going above and beyond the norm for their class (Like an evasion like ability for a non rogue)...raising the stakes. You earn your action points by taking a risk, now here's your karmic reward kinda deal.
That being said, we could definitely put limitations on it so that you still have to continue doing epic things. I say we definitely limit the use of Action Point to 1 per round. Possibly 1 per encounter? Could then create a feat [Hero's Call?] that allows one to overcome the once per encounter rule, allowing a number of action points to be used based on a stat (Charisma maybe?) and granting you one each day for free at the end of a long rest.
Final thought for this post, when I was originally thinking about the Action Point I started thinking about the idea of adding a d6 to rolls of your choosing (I believe this was how it was done in the previous editions), however there are so many things do this already between spells like Bless and Guidance, to the Intuition Die introduced with Wayfinders. So I think it needs to go above and beyond that for sure.
SHARE A character can spend an action point to gain an additional standard action once per encounter. A character starts with one action point. To regain an action point a character must reach a milestone or take an extended rest.
Earning action pointsEdit You start with 1 action point.(Monsters usually have no action points.) You gain 1 action point when you reach a milestone. After you take an extended rest, you lose any unspent action points, but you start fresh with 1 action point. Most often, you spend an action point to take an extra action during your turn.
Spend an action pointEdit You can spend an action point as a free action.
During Your Turn: You can spend an action point only during your turn, but never during a surprise round. Gain an Extra Action: You gain an extra action this turn. You decide if the action is a standard action, a move action, or a minor action. Once per Encounter: After you spend an action point, you must take a short rest before you can spend another. (Some monsters can spend more than 1 action point per encounter, but are restricted to one per turn.) If you spend an action point to take an extra action and are within sight of an allied warlord, the warlord’s Commanding Presence grants you a benefit.
Instead of taking an extra action when you spend an action point, you can use a paragon path feature or a feat that requires an action point. Whatever you use an action point for, you can spend only 1 per encounter.
Basically, it was a way to be able to attack again or move again! You could only spend action points once per battle. Short rests were basically free (depending on DM of course) so you could always opt to use another at-will power or dash and attack.
In my games, I let the players pool those action points up to 5, because I am into high action. Different classes could use action points to make other things happen or grant bonuses. For example, Demonskin Adepts could "Demon Fury (11th level): When you spend an action point to take an extra action, you and your allies gain a +3 bonus to attack rolls until the start of your next turn, and your enemies gain a +3 bonus to their attack rolls against you until the start of your next turn." There were other classes that would let you spend more than 1 action point per battle.
I really liked the system. It made combat pretty dynamic and enemies had so many varied abilities that it didn't feel like you would, necessarily, overpower difficult encounters just by spending action points. Instead, it felt like players actually sat and planned their turns. Never had side chatter in my 4e games like I do in my 5e games.
I love 4e, and that's the edition I started DMing in. I understand it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I think it did at least have some good/fun ideas! If it wasn't for 4e, I wouldn't have learned about Eberron!
Edit: interesting. It won't let me remove some of that wiki html stuff. It disappears in the editor window. How annoying! :D

Magic is science, the draconic prophety would be the Quantum theory studying by dragons?
At least it is the idea i want push to confront my players to their first encounter with an member of Argoness chambers, and also play arround the idea that differents factions of dragons did not only see the lower races, worth or not to be concidere as themself when dragons are studing signs of the prophety, but also on the fact that some can think if they interact with them during their investigations on prophety manifestations, they will change the observation and meaning of it, and can be a debat topic between way of thinking in draconics factions.
In short use our philosophy of thinking in modern sciences for some draconics factions. And you DM did you call your player "Vectors" or "markers" of the prophety ?
Interesting classes powers, with magic casters that din't became useless after a magic missile or two...
Tactical battles that required you to think your turns.
Minion & Brutes Monsters for an LotR epic moments where you felt bad ass.
Yes there was too much feats( with ALL the sources, official modules, Dragon Magazin etc) 3458 feats was overkill.
And easy min maxing( yeah not like min maxing isn't a thing in 5th...)
But i always had a blast playing 4th at the time.
I never played 4th, but I did read it at least. From what I can tell of my own impression and others', it was a great game for many of the reasons you stated above, but it deviated too far from what defined D&D as a game. To reiterate, it was a great RPG, just not D&D for many people. Even Art and Arcana states that 4e's intent was to compete with MMOs.
Exactly! I wanted D&D, not an MMO. But thankfully, 5th Ed gave me what I love back!!!
