BBEG, a patron being, wants to enslave atribe of Yuan-tito worship him to become godlike. To accomplish this, he needs to eliminate the small upper class of the yuan-ti who want to maintain the status quo**.** To do that he has given powers to lower class of yuan-ti individuals to spread the word and show what following and worshiping him will do. That not being enough. He has infiltrated two factions, KantianThe Companions and the UtilitarianFaction #2, with BBEG Agents to leverage their resources to eliminate the "evil" Upper Class of yuan-ti.
The Players - Bard/Warlock (Halfing) - Wants to tell an epic ballad of their adventures to establish their name in history. Cleric (Half-Orc) - Works for the Order of the Gauntletinvestigating recent murders of their members. Monk (Wood Elf) - The brawn for the cleric of the same Order. Fiercely loyal to Cleric / Order. Rogue/Warlock (Drow) - Criminal who has never really wanted to be bad, but was just good at it. Ranger (Wood Elf) - Robin Hood who wants to avenge his village that was destroyed by dragon. (I dunno, he really wanted to do a revenge story.) Act 1: Bard goes to the Sunless Citadel and loses all allies, barely escaping alive due to something saving him. (TPK) The BBEG, sensing his potential for great things, saved him without him knowing. Cursed him to have no ability to convey the events of his adventures. Any time he would ever do anything that would allow him to convey the details of what happened, he forgets. He wonders if he is insane. A day later the BBEG appears before him and grants him warlock powers and tells him to go to Blassingdell, there he will find the answers to regain his memory. BBEG meets Rogue and says he will grant the rogue warlock powers if he promises to only do good. Sends him on a mission to help the bardregain his memory. The Cleric & Monk ,find the Bard who was with their Order mate in the Sunless Citadel. They need his memory to get answers as to why they are being killed off. Will help Bard on his quest to regain his memory.
The Plan Player Party gets to Blasingdell and finds out the Baron Alturn is offering them a mission to recover druegar weapons. This is so BBEG can have him sell them to the highest bidding Faction as a resource for their fight against the UpperClass Yuan-ti. An anonymous tip will be given to the party about a pending hit against NPC's from Order of the Gauntletmembers that apart of both Factions. The Party will not be able to stop the hit. The hit is orchestrated by the BBEG using one of the Lower Class Yuan Ti to kill them and take the fall. Triggers the Party and Factions against the Yuan-ti. (More hits to come, to drive the Cleric to getting to the source of the hits: Yuant Ti Tribe; Plot Twist the BBEG) The Bard will continue to be rewarded with false memory of the event, to the plot twist. Where he will discovery the truth that the BBEGarranged for his friends to be killed and can convey that to the Cleric.) (Ranger gets to kill dragon in Act 1, sorry not sorry on the backstory.) (Rogue who wants to do good in the world continues to try and prove he is good by helping Party)
Act Two - First Conflict The players will get to choose which Faction to support in war against the Upper class Yuan-ti. Going on missions into the Temple and White Plume mountain to empower each Faction and gain benefits by committing to a group. They will be given clues to the fact that Factions may be infiltrated by an being (BBEG). BBEG will also be giving them perks for completing tasks for each faction to make him appear .
Interlude - Plot Twist Then when the players meet the Yuant Ti Tribe they will discovery the tribe is . Party to choose to continue supporting the Factions or to support the Yuan-ti tribe. Take the Doomvault (Owned by which ever opposing group needs to own it)
Act Three - Plot Twist Players will discover the BBEG's involvement and have the opportunity to leverage some or all of the Factions, and Yuan ti Tribe support in Against the Giants, the BBEG's own group. And then try and get to him in Tomb of Horrors.
I am so overwhelmed with trying to flesh out all of the encounters / rumors / clues to connect all of this. AHHHH!
What were you trying to link into this thread? It makes it very confusing to what you were attempting to convey. My honest answer is at the least go off script from the yawning portal. Potentially changing enemy encounters at the very least superficially, to match your ideas, or in some cases entirely. Come up with new items and events to reflect the reptilian nature of the campaign. I would say you should edit your post for clarity. Because it is muddy as ****.
