I have a player who is asking for essentially a melee version of Eldritch Blast. Thought on this idea? Each blast would be a melee strike and would be able to have the same invocations added to it?
I can understand the stand point that its essentially the same thing as EB just they actually have to be in personal contact with target. Something just seems off about allowing a warlock to have as many melee attacks as a monk using Flurry of blows at 17th level.
That would also give them as many attacks as a 20th-level Fighter three whole levels sooner.
About a year ago I was on the same track you are, only without the interaction with the invocations. It still seemed off to me and I ended up tabling the project indefinitely.
If you want to use Eldritch Blast at point blank range you can still do so just with disadvantage on the rolls. This spell makes the attack more powerful by removing the disadvantage.
Make it a 1st level spell and require a spell slot and it sounds pretty reasonable to me, but I doubt your warlock wants to use a spell slot on it. As a cantrip it's too powerful.
