If you edit your character, you can go to the Class section, and from there is an option to pick the subclass - when you reach the correct level of the class.
On the Class tab of the character builder. Y’know when you go to your characters, it displays each character and below the name and image it says View, Edit, etc.? Click on Edit and it will take you to the character builder for that character. Cycle through the subheadings if necessary and then click on the one labeled “Class.”
Once you’re on the class tab you’ll see a bunch of features listed beneath your chosen class. Find the feature with the same name as what they call subclasses for your class. So if you’re playing a fighter you would look for a feature named “Fighter Archetype,” or if you’re playing a cleric you would look for one named “Divine Domain,” etc. click on that feature and you will see a dropdown where you can select your chosen subclass from the options it offers you. If you don’t know what they call subclasses for the class you’re playing, you can easily look that up by checking the details page for that class under the Game Rules tab, or by checking in either the Basic Rules or the PHB under the Sources Tab.
Remember, some but not all classes get their subclass at 1st level, some others get theirs at 2nd level, but most get their subclass at 3rd level. If you haven’t reached the required level for that class yet, you’ll have to keep playing before you can select subclass. You can look up what level you need to be to choose a subclass for your character at the same time you look up what the subclasses are called for the class you’re using.
Not really a question for the DM section, but...
