Due to the fact that i fell in love with the now more streamlined 5e, my jolly group of Adventurers and i want to switch from Pathfinder back to DnD 5e.
But there is following problem: One of my Players uses the SUMMONER CLASS and loves his Eidolon. I do know that the class itself is quite unbalanced and OP in some sort, but i would love to work something out which feels like the SUMMONER but is less action-economy breaking and slightly less powerful.
I thought about a straight conversion of the class and a tweak here and there, but this wouldn't fix the problem i fear – so i would love for an overall input of more experienced DMs or Conversion experiences with this class in particular.
hopefully you and your group work through this, as 5th edition feels to me like a much more balanced game than it's predecessors.
One of the design decisions they have taken, is to restrict additional actors under the control of characters, although I think that maybe went a little too restrictive (I'm looking at you here Ranger and your animal companion).
I've not played with a Summoner class back when I played 3.5/Pathfinder, but a quick google search shows me that their solution to most problems is to utilise the summon monster spells. The Summon Monster spells are conspicuous by their absence from 5th edition, which must be also by design.
There are still quite a few, but you'll see that it's more demons and elementals and the first spells that actually summon creatures that are useful in a fight are 3rd level spells Conjure Animals and Summon Lesser Demons, the latter of which can be more of a hindrance than a help.
The two classes that seem to have the greatest ability to summon additional help are Druid and Wizard. Druid probably has the edge.
If he wants to use only the PHB, Wizard (Conjurer) is likely the closest idea. If you allow Unearthed Arcana, the revised Ranger's Beast Master companion is the closest approximate to an eidolon and could be reflavoured without too much effort. If you allow DM guild, take a look at the Summoner: http://www.dmsguild.com/m/product/203741
You could also check out DnDWiki and look at the homebrew classes there, there is a summoner one. Just keep in mind not all of these classes are balanced

Here's a list of all summoning spells in 5th editions on D&D Beyond (using the summoning tag).

Ah thank you.
I don't mind home-brew, DMG or UA content at all, so i´ll check out your recommendations :)

Good thought.
Haven't checked the wiki yet - but will surely now.
