My player's paladin wants to multi class into rogue and he has decent reasons in character but another player is already a rogue would you guys allow it.
That’s👆the magic phrase right there, and the best reason there is to multiclass. As long as he’s not looking to horn in on the existing rogue’s schtick it should be okay. (But not the same subclass.)
He could also be thinking of Path of Exile as well, they had a paladin/rogue in that game with a garrote attack. It also depends on the paladin and reasons. A devotion paladin wanting to rob from the rich and give to the poor maybe not as much as a vengeance or conquest paladin wanting to take expedited methods to reach their goals, whether trickery or a stab to the back or poison.

If the DM for that campaign says it’s a “decent reason,” that’s good enough for me. 🤷♂️ It’s not my table so it’s not my place to judge what a “decent reason” is. That’s up the that table’s DM, the OP, Poseidon_the_Dungeon_Master2. If it were your table I would take your word for what is or is not a decent enough reason, at my table it’s my word that counts. At Poseidon’s table, I’ll let Poseidon be the judge of what is or is not a “decent reason.” I don’t need to know what the reason is, just Poseidon’s opinion on the matter. Poseidon says it’s decent, so it is.
