I once played a level 5 single-player campaign as a homebrewed warlock hawk (I had to do quite a lot to make the concept balanced), and I ended up as a close ally of a Feywild king called the Clockwork King. Anyway, after befriending the king's court, I began exploring the world and stumbled across a random village where I was told of an invasion of a nearby dwarf town being overrun by shadow demons. I (as the hawk) took one look at the situation, and with a single Eldritch Blast, I destroyed the crystal focus that kept the portal open through which the invasion force came. The collapsing portal sucked the demons back in, and the invasion was over. Moral of the Story: Don't leave your arcane focus out in the open.
1- This was a few years ago, when I was a player. Our party was in a town and trying to get information about a group that we had to find and defeat. Some of the other people were going to start antagonizing the villagers, and the DM said not to burn bridges and get kicked out of the town. They agreed, and we continued on. Later, as we were traveling, we came across a bridge. After crossing it, even though we knew we would have to come back that way later, we burned it. It was very fun, and I loved that DM, pretty sure he added a bridge just so we could burn it.
2- Once, when I was DMing, the party fought a gelatinous cube, and once it was defeated, some of them decided to eat it. I had them make Constitution saves and set the DC in my head at 18. They rolled a nat 20, a 19, and an 18. Since then, they have tried to eat several more monsters, and when I was running Out of the Abyss, they asked if they could eat Glabbagool.
3- I was new to DMing, and this was with the party from the previous story. They were fighting some goblins, and one asked if they could use create/destroy water to dehydrate the goblin. I didn't know the specifics of the spell and play by the rule that players are in charge of knowing what their spells do, not the DM. They said they were allowed to do that(without actually checking), so I allowed it. Afterward, they tried to eat it and got a dirty 20 on the con save, so now just saying the phrase "goblin raisins" makes my whole friend group start laughing.
