So my players are a cabal of Lesser Devils and that of course means that when they inevitably die at some point they will temporarily be returned to the nine hells.
of course the Higher Devils don't appreciate their underlings screwing up in their duties and will of course punish the player character before kicking them back into the material plane.
Can anyone suggest any creative punsihments for the player characters to temporarily experience?
i currently have some already listed such as negative modifiers or disadvantage on certain rolls etc but any suggestions are welcome.
You can't beat the classics. Try this https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/41537 Dante's Inferno. The punishments are typically a twist on the crime, sin or failing that is predominant in the individual.

Demoting them could be a good option, making them be a lower form of devil, such as an imp, nupperibo, or Lemure.
Possibly removing their tongues so they can't speak.
Taking away their wings, if they have them.
Removing their weapons/armor.
Blinding them.
Cutting off their ears.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
