My group don't know how to play, me included. I am the poor sap who gets to be the DM. I want to find a super easy intro adventure (happy to buy it) that I can use for us all to learn together while taking on some very easy tutorial-like adventure(s). Where might I find such a thing?
We have substantial tabletop game experience (we have a long running Gloomhaven campaign), and three of the four of us have played many online dungeon crawlers (Dark Age of Camelot and the like back in the Olden Days). But we don't know how to play D&D so we need something super easy with things I (the DM) can read and follow rather than invent, for the first couple go rounds.
Any and all suggestions extremely welcome! Thanks in advance!
The essentials kit is a good place to start. It has a series of simple adventures that will take your group from level 1 to level 13 and I believe some premade character sheets.
The Essentials Kit (Dragon of Ice Spire Peak) or the Starter Kit (Lost Mines of Phandelver) are probably both reasonable starting points since I think they both give you most of what you need in terms of rules and adventures to get started.
Me and my players are currently going through Dragon of Icespire Peak and we are all having a blast! None of us had played DnD 5th ed. before, though most of us had played plenty of other systems. I've made quite a few changes (removing the billboard for starters and added a few NPCs to make the town of Phandalin come alive) but it really feels like a good starter that holds the GM and players hands without making it too easy. Definitely recommending it so far!

I would recommend the Essentials Kit for a first-time DM as well.
I own the Starter Kit in hardcopy and so have been reading it in person; I went to buy it on the dndbeyond.com site and could not find it? I was able to buy the Essentials kit... I swear, it's hard to throw money at this project when I can't even figure out how to pay for things! I would stick with the hardcopy except that we're under a coronavirus lockdown and trying to loop in a friend who cannot be with us in person...
Is there a way to buy the Starter Kit online, or should I stick with Essentials? And, should I stay here or use roll20 to play with a distributed group?
I would say stick with Essentials.. but that's just me. I use D&D Beyond for character sheets and Roll20 for maps, with Zoom for the actual play since most of my group can't do in-person games at the moment. (This, of course, means I have a lot of tabs open on my computer during sessions :) )
Great, thanks so much, I have the Essentials Kit module on roll20 now and am figuring out how everything works :) My players will kill me if they have to re-roll on roll20, but I assume that I can let them keep their character sheets here and play using the map and NPC character sheets there. More fun things to explore!

Get your players to use the beyond20 browser add-on/extension (available on Chrome and Firefox). The players get to click on their character sheets on dndbeyond, and the rolls are sent through to roll20. They only need a basic character with the correct hit points set on roll20, they don't need their full character sheet to be copied across.
