It might be quite much of a stretch, but considering that sunlight is quite required for plants and many living beings to survive, could it be a healing sun armband with the possibility to deal harm instead on an eclipse/at night?
Otherwise, could you make it so it would be a 1d3 charge band that could give sunlight vulnerability to targets? Not totally sure, though.
Does it give specific abilities if only out in the sun?
Would it give a special bonus only when out in an eclipse?
It has abilities not requiring the sun to be in a specific way. More it has abilities themed around the sun, so like the ability to fire a beam of radiant light and to emit light. I was just wanting something kind of eclipse themed, but when looking at my usual source for inspiration which is historical cultures there isn't really alot about eclipses that was useable, so was considering ideas people had.

oooo these are interesting. Defiantly some ideas to consider!
The like the above ideas, especially the healing/harm thing...but since eclipses are rare, making it a light/dark thing kinda takes away from the whole theme?
Eclipses are rare, and in history, they seem to be perceived to foretell things, particularly doom. Could you make the item dim light, cast darkness and give some sort of advantage in its eclipse dimmed light OR some sort of DOOM...disadvantage? If you are going for a super rare wondrous item, it could be a ancient Drow item, that when outside it actually can magically shroud an area of light, causing dim light...helping any race like a Drow/Kobold that has light sensitivity? Then allow it to have charges of some sort of dooming darkness spell, that can either do damage over time, slow or amplifies necrotic spells (or spells like arms of Hadar etc.)...?
I think you can do some cool stuff with an eclipse theme.
So am making a magic item with effects based around the sun. Am stuff with ideas what kind of effects would you attach to an eclipse?

Hey...couple questions.
Does it give specific abilities if only out in the sun?
Would it give a special bonus only when out in an eclipse?
My immediate thought was that eclipses beg to be watched - could one of the effects be that it mesmerises the enemy and they have to watch it?
The sun can also be blinding - coming inside after being outside on a bright day. So it could cause blindness?
Any metal object could become too hot to hold and be dropped, or inflict fire damage?
Hope this is of some use.
