I was curious, is there a way to do homebrew weapons? Not necessarily magical but some modified existing weapons that change damage and type (ie finesse, light etc)?
Unfortunately there's currently no way to do proper custom basic weapons; the closest we can do is create a magic weapon using a basic weapon as a starting point and then add or remove weapon properties and/or add damage, change damage type, that kind of thing.
There's no way currently to create a weapon with customisable damage dice or such; you sort of get around this using Actions, either adding custom actions on a character sheet directly, or adding them to a class or feat, but this isn't pretty either. Custom actions can choose their dice type and count, and can be made as melee or ranged attacks (as well as spells and other stuff).
Unless I forgot something I think these are your main options for now; custom basic items is a frequently requested feature, and the devs are definitely aware of it, but we've no word so far on when we might get that ability. The way devs have been speaking, the current game data system is creaking at the seams a bit and they're supposedly working on a big overhaul behind the scenes, so maybe they'll make it more modular and flexible for the future? But again, no idea when yet, some have hinted at something this year but I'd take that with a grain of salt.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
