So I want to make the Tridents as they are in Onednd: 1d8 base damage and versatile 1d10.
So far I've tried Replace Damage Type - 1d8 Piercing and Weapon Property - Versatile - 1d10. Does nothing.
I also tried Ignore Weapon Property - Versatile and Ignore Weapon Property - Versatile - 1d8
Then I found out I cant actually do this for some reason, so I tried approximating it by making the base weapon a War Pick, but I cant enter a range for the thrown property.
So is there anyway to do this aside from writing it in the items description or is Dndbeyond basically useless for half the basic homebrew people would want to do?
You're looking for a base 1d8 weapon with thrown and versatile properties? A yklwa is a 1d8 weapon with the thrown property and already does piercing damage. You just need to add the versatile property to it.
I'm not sure if the onednd trident has different thrown range than the yklwa, but I believe that is one of the things that cannot be changed. I've done a little bit of research into thrown and range properties, but not extensive because I didn't find any changes could be made to those properties initially.
If you could change the range and make the items you wanted, with the way the system works now, I would call that picky. The homebrew section needs a clean up in places to say the least.
The fact you can't add a custom range and have to use other weapons, possibly causing proficiency issues depending on the class, means the system is mostly useless at what it's suppose to do.
Not arguing with you at all, I'm in total agreement that the digital homebrew tool we have access to just sucks. But at the end of the day, if the correct name, dice, modifier, and result show up in the game log during a session, I'm satisfied.
Plus I'm that weirdo who's primary hobby the past few years is making random homebrew on dndbeyond. It was kinda fun figuring out how to do things with such a limited tool.
Like I know you can pick Ignore Weapon Property and select the subtype to Range. Does this remove Range from the list of weapon properties in the Notes section displayed on the character sheet? Absolutely not. Why is Range a choice then?

You only have the basic 5e weapons and their stats to work with.
So the sites still useless, got it. Thanks.
The site isn't useless, it's picky. You should read through this thread I made about homebrew weapons.
