My wizard has an NPC companion (as do the other party members), they aren't always with us and I'm considering a homebrew spell that would allow me to teleport one, or more, of them to our location. Just looking for some feedback on what level spell might be right and any restrictions. I'm thinking a level 6 or 7 spell with upcasting allowing an additional NPC. Maybe its too powerful compared to other summon spells as it would be more akin to existing teleportation spells that are permanent and don't require concentration. But its an NPC and not as powerfully under my control as a summons would be? IDK, just spitballing, thanks for any thoughts you contribute.
Personally, I'd consider homebrewing a 5th level spell like the caster can cast it once to target a willing creature and create a bond. With a bond active they can cast the spell again to teleport that bonded creature to them as long as they are on the same plane of existence (if they are not, the spell fails but the slot is not wasted). Maximum of 3 bonds. 7th level can teleport 2 creatures to you and 9th can teleport all 3.
Caster and bonded targets can end the bond whenever they want as an action.

I figure 5th level is fine, when comparing to other "teleport people" spells like Word of Recall.

Target one bonded creature on the same plane of existence as you to your location, the creature then appears in a spot of your choosing within range.
To create a bond the spell must be cast once on a willing target and a piece of their body (such as a lock of hair or fingernail) given to the caster. Up to three creatures can be bonded at any time.
At Higher Levels: Two bonded creatures may be summoned if cast with a 7th level spell slot and three creatures may be summoned if cast with a 9th level spell slot.
* - (A lock of hair, or other physical piece, of the person being teleported)
