Hi there, haven't spent to much Tim e searching through the threads, so if this has already been asked I am most sorry.
Anyways! In my campaign my dm and I have worked out a home-brew multiclass with some of his old ideas and story lines along with a shadow dancer class from 3.5. My main character is a tiefling rouge, and the home-brew subclass I am trying to add has a rouge base. I am just wondering how I am able to add this in as a subclass of its own.
the best advice I can offer you for converting from 3.5 to 5e is - don't try to convert all of the abilities and classes the way they work in 3.5e, as it's a different game.
Figure out what the core mechanics of the character are, that make it play the way it plays, and then figure out how to convert those.
It sounds like you are best off taking an existing rogue or monk subclass and tweaking it. I think it is unlikely that multiclassing would be the best way to go about this.
Here's the official advice from Wizards of the Coast:
we have things worked in and sorted from the abilities I like from it.
Im just not sure how to add it in as a home-brew to use with my character. when I go into the multi classing feature here on dndbeyond with my character sheet I don't have access to pick another rogue subclass.
Like I may be going about it the wrong way in how I am adding it into the system
