Ive gotten it to work but it was very tricky... i think i added an extra feat to enable the spells, and was a way to work around it. I forget the details now.
Oh look. A monk with homebrew subclass that lets you casts spells using spell slots. I just refollowed the steps I posted earlier(except choosing spells known: no, instead of yes). Easy and simple.

I was trying to keep it non-homebrew... because when i was trying this out i didn't have a subscription, and did not have access to homebrew selection then. Hence the "official- ish" work around... but, your method does seem easier.

You don’t need a subscription to create homebrew, only to add other people’s homebrews to your collection.
