So I'm making a homebrew class where I want it to specify that the attack you can make with it is a weapon attack, not just a melee attack... Is there a way to do this?
Another thing I need help with, this probably needs to be one from the staff, for some reason my homebrew class can't get spells added as some that are always learned, and not added to the spell list. Like how the new spells for the UA Clockwork sorcerer works.
There are only two types of melee attacks in 5e, “Melee Weapon Attacks” and “Melee Spell Attacks.” Any melee attack that is not a “spell attack” is automatically a “weapon attack” by default. If you really want to make it clear, simply write “Melee Weapon Attack” in the description. When you specifically attach the “Action” to your subclass, you can designate it as either a “Generic Action,” a “Weapon Action,” or a “Spell Action.” Each of those has a different icon that presents on the character sheet to indicate that designation to the players using the subclass.
I can help with the spells thing too, but first you gotta tell me for which base class you are creating your subclass.
Yeah, this is probably going to be an issue with 5e not having a clear terminology for the distinction. For example, Divine Smite requires a "melee weapon attack." An unarmed strike is also defined as a "melee weapon attack." But Errata makes clear that such abilities require a "melee weapon attack" that also uses an actual weapon. So you'll have to include such a distinction clearly in your description.

Are you asking about doing this in Beyond's homebrew creator, or just in terms of general rules?
On the homebrew creator
Ah, thanks for clarifying. Im not much help then. Hope someone else can help.

Right now it's seen as a melee attack, and I hoped you could have it like here with the dagger

So all I can do is say in the description "This counts as a normal weapon for the purpose of spells"?
I imagine so, unless beyond has ironed out something Wizards hasnt made especially clearer.
