I recently got a magic Longsword that does 2d8 with one hand and 2d10 in two but homebrewing it has been a massive pain, I may be misunderstanding what it means but when creating a magic weapon and going to Modifiers > Modifier Type > Damage and then choosing Melee Weapon Attack or One-Handed Weapon Attack to change the damage die, it doesn't change anything about the weapon at all
Instead of creating a weapon, since altering damage die is not an option there. Maybe consider making an action that can be listed as Melee Attack through a homebrew Feat. It can account for proficiency, the number of dice and dice type you want to use, assign the damage type, and have it listed as an attack. It won't be recognized as a weapon in the character sheet, so you'd need to make a note and reminder for any other considerations, especially with spells that can affect it.

It is currently impossible to alter base damage on a weapon. You cannot set that Longsword to 2d8 damage with the current software.
