Gruenic looks down, the rush of battle leaving him, the spear dissipates. He coils up his rope that was used and gathers his two javelins, wiping them off. "That... is not normally me." The rage and hot feelings of revenge leave Gruenic, leaving him somewhat deflated afterward. "They had it coming. I heard them planning my torture and murder. But, that is not how I would usually treat foes that I have vanquished." He stops, considering, remains quiet for a few minutes.
He then shakes his head and bends down, searches the body of Old Yarrack. "Wonderful plan guys. Thanks for helping me with the rope Sila."

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Sila nods at Gruenic, "It was ready to go over, I just helped speed it to that end. Saw the big one coming, and didn't want him to get past." Then glancing at everyone, "Great plan, we could have taken some serious hits from those weapons."
She looks thoughtful a moment. "It was the right thing, it was a mercy to finish him quickly than take him prisoner only to lead to the same end."
Once the ice and gas have dissipated, Sila moves forward and unties the rope from the statue and gathers her weapons, cleaning and repacking them. "We should check out these barracks."She suggests and she walks into the room to investigate. (not sure whose rope it was, but is it still in usable condition?)
You enter the orc bunk room and see that it is filled with rough-hewn bunks, tables, and chairs, and the floor is strewn with filthy pelts. It seems to have room to accommodate about a dozen humanoids, and is about 50ft long by 30ft wide.
(Anyone searching the bunk room please make a Perception check)
As the Great Axes are too heavy for her fighting style, she would have left them behind as she does the massive armor. She gathers the key to the cage that held the girls they rescued earlier, more to keep it from being potentially used again than anything else. She gathers the potion of Healing and asks as she walks into the large bunk room, "Anyone not have one of these yet?" Passing it to anyone that speaks up. She will them move to the bedding and start searching one by one.
Gruenic bends down and unlatches the plate armor from Old Yarrack. "Anyone else want this? Maybe I can modify it to fit me. Thanks Yarrick." He helps to hold his head as Bree cuts off his ears. After Gruenic takes the plate armor, he moves into the barracks and checks the bunks as well.
Sila tumbles the beds and looks through them, but can find nothing of value. Gruenic has a bit more luck; a loose stone reveals a hidey hole and a sack inside. The sack contains enough coins for everyone to have 8gp and 50sp each.
The cleric also notices something strange in the western wall; closer inspection reveals a secret door which loops back to the archery area where you fought the orc archers soon after entering the mountain.
(Showing full map for reference; the way forward from here is either back down the stairs in the east to the caves below, or back out the entrance where you first came in)
Garavant looks at the last fallen orc and nods when Gruenic talks of the reasons for his actions. "Understood," he says to the cleric. "Sometimes these things are personal."There is a bit of an edge on his voice at the last sentence.
He's more than happy to take his share of the coins found in the barracks. "So, we agreed to clear this place of orcs, but there's said to be much greater treasure somewhere within, as I recall," he says to the others. "The sort of treasure that might give a person more...options in life. Should we delve deeper?"
Gruenic agrees. He counts out the coin and distributes it evenly to everyone. “I’m going to hide this plate armor in case no one else wants it. I will need a smith to help me alter it, but I would like to wear it for protection and as a memento of our conquest over old Yarrack there. I would like to accompany you and explore the rest of this place if you are all up to it. I think this is a good place for us to sleep and recover. I need to meditate and regain my lady’s blessings with my spells. What say you all?”
He pauses, considering. “I’m all turned around. How far away is town and do you recall seeing a smith there?” He looks down at the plate armor.
After Gruenic's moment of silent thinking when he helps her, Bree says: "You OK? You've been to a lot recently..."
On the topic of continuing on/resting/returning to town she says: "Lucy, you were counting right? Do we have all the buggers we expected to find here? Or should there be more? If this would be all we can take a rest here. Maybe we should move to the archery so we can keep a lookout for any trouble coming our way. I'm fine continuing for now, but wouldn't mind taking a nap to restore my arcane powers."
"To be honest, I would rather continue exploring below than going back to town now, that would take like 6 days! Who knows what kind of adventure lies below?! Maybe we also find some more arcane knowledge, imagine that!" She says with a wide grin on her face.
Gruenic turns to Bree and says "I'm ok, just tired. I feel like I have been freed from a horrible fate, I can't imagine what they would have done to me next. Thank you for finding me! I do feel like I need a rest. If you have found a place that is better than this one to rest, I'm for that. I need to pray to Selune and thank her for the abilities she has given me, for the strength and power to overcome." He pulls out the plate armor and wraps it in a blanket from one of the bunks, preparing to hide it if there is a good place.

" I want to say, DOWN! " Lucyis sitting on a table and bites off elven rations that are made from dried fruits and nuts. Somehow she wears a troubled look on her face. "As the halfling said, it might take more than one week to come back to this pit. But Gruenic was stuck in that sack for days. He needs to be fed and recovered. We probably need more equipment and supplies too. Also I have to recharge my spells…but I WILL NOT sleep on that nasty orc bed swarm with vermin!"
"Ok, if that is what the group wants... what is it you said? The Van Gogh Squad? I don't know who Van Gogh is, but it has a nice ring to it. You don't have to sleep in a filthy orog bed Lucy. We can head into town and I can get this armor fashioned into something fearsome! What do you think? If we do this, I want to come back here quickly though and keep exploring, I really like working with you guys..." Gruenic looks up, tired, grateful for his life, sweaty, and smiling a big toothy grin at each of you.

"Van Gogh was a famous bounty hunter and painter. He killed hundreds of criminals and cut their ears to earn his pens and paints. The man dreamed of being the greatest artist the world has ever known, created about thousands of artwork, however none of them were sold more than 10 gold pieces while he was alive. In the end Gogh became totally crazy, cut his own ear and killed himself. " Says Lucy, staring at the rocky ceiling as if remembering something. " I like his works though." Thebladesinger jumps off the table and stretches out her hand toward Bree. "Now if we are leaving this place, hand me your ear bag. I'll ice these orc meats so that they won't go bad"
"Van Gogh Squad. I like it." Sila gathers up her gear and gets ready to head out.
"A bed in town sounds like a fine idea." Sprinkling a little water from her canteen to wet her hands to clear her face of some of the blood. As noone accepted the potion of healing from her, she'll pack this away as well. "We could sell some salvaged supplies as well if anyone has a mind to take anything else and I can help carry parts of the plate if you'd like." Then remembering something, "Gruenic, we found this note on an archer in an earlier battle and were unable to understand it. It just occurred to me that you didn't join us until after. Perhaps it will make some sense to you?" She says offering the note found in the pocket of the archer. (post 253)
Sila is happy to lead in march order back to town and looks forward to some fresh water and hunting while they camp.
(if anyone is interested in the Potion let her know and she'll happily pass it over as she already has one on her.)
Gruenic takes the note (from post 253) and examines it, trying to make sense of it. He offers to keep 2nd watch, each night before going to sleep sharing his Eyes of Night gift before taking a long rest with the next 2 watchers, each with darkvision to 300 ft (for 1 hour at least). He can carry the plate, will be looking for a smith in town to evaluate it and fit it for him if possible.
Before the first watch he takes (before he sleeps), he casts cure wounds on himself, for 5 points of healing.
Garavant may be slightly reluctant to leave the legendary treasures behind (even if just for now), but he readily joins the group in their return to town, moving along a short distance behind Sila, keeping his eyes and ears open as best he can.
At some point in their travels, he says to the group: "Though it's not my nature to be close-lipped about much of anything,"he says. "We may want to keep quiet about any details of what we saw. I'd hate to think that some other treasure-hunters would rush out to the fortress now that they know it's been cleared of orcs. We may not want to stay in town for too, too long."
He grins. "Although of course I'll be more than happy to take time to collect my share of the reward!"
Gruenic takes the note and sees that it is written in orcish: “Belaa, I’ve been thinking about your little jaunt down the stairs with the blood sucking bats and the upright lizards. I’m now heading out on patrol, but I dare you to go down another level, see how deep the mountain goes. Tursk.”
The note has been folded in half and written on the front, also in orcish, it says “Krag, give to Belaa”
The Van Gogh Squad pack their kit away and head out of the Mountain Door, leaving the Stone Tooth behind. You make pretty good time, undisturbed by the wildlife who seem solemnly quiet as if aware of the carnage that has been unleashed within the mountain.
You travel for about eight hours and make camp deep into the evening.
(Please can everyone taking a guard shift roll for Perception. I have the order as: Gruenic, Sila, Garavant – need one other. Marching order is Sila, Garavant, Gruenic? Are Bree and Lucy happy to go next?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gruenic translates the note for everyone. "Eh, looks like we are headed for some "upright lizards" and blood sucking bats on the way downstairs. Nice! I'll swat 'em like flies once I have my nice shiny plate on! (Yarrick can kiss my grits he says under his breath). Right. Who's up for watch? Guess it will be me first."
Gruenic looks down, the rush of battle leaving him, the spear dissipates. He coils up his rope that was used and gathers his two javelins, wiping them off. "That... is not normally me." A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Old Yarrack’s body reveals a potion of healing and a greataxe, plus an iron key that looks like it fits the cage door that held Geradil and Courana.
Old Yarrack’s plate armour is roughly worn but fitted to his massive physique; it would not fit a non-orog comfortably without modification.
The orcs just carry greataxes; all five weapons are battered and unlikely to fetch anything at market, but are useable.
(And 170xp each, plus Inspiration for an excellent plan well executed - I'm genuinely impressed!)
Sila nods at Gruenic, "It was ready to go over, I just helped speed it to that end. Saw the big one coming, and didn't want him to get past." Then glancing at everyone, "Great plan, we could have taken some serious hits from those weapons."
