The two men are undoubtedly dead from massive blood loss. Seeing them up close for the first time you realise that they were young, even for humans; maybe twenty years (the short-lived races can be so hard to age)
@Everyone:
The lead highwaymanshudders at Lucy’sunsheathed rage, seemingly more scared of her than the monster that just tore his comrades apart. After a moment he composes himself and gestures to his last remaining henchman: “Those two will need burying. And I’ll have to write to their mums”.
Lifting his chin to Lucy, he speaks with a little more confidence than he shows: “I was going to offer you the opportunity to buy safe passage on this stretch of road, although it does seem that you might not need our, er, protection. Having said that though, it does seem that the Blasingdell checkpoint will need to recruit replacements for the forces we lost in your aid; any donations to the war chest, or their bereaved families, would be greatly appreciated”.
The wagon stops rolling forward as Garavantheads over to speak to the owners.
The old couple can now that they can see the danger has passed, although they keep shooting nervous glances and the lead highwayman. The man speaks first: “Thank you so much good adventurers! Were it not for you we would be lining that beast’s nest by now, regardless of the ‘protection’ offered by these charlatans”.He spits to the ground at this last word and seems lost in thought for a moment. Before turning toward the rakish half-elf beside him.
@Garavant:
Apparently having an epiphany, he looks you straight in the eyes and whispers “They’re dangerous. You have to stop them from hurting others”
Garavant nods at the elderly man's words and speaks quietly.
He whispers in return. "We spotted you just before that beast arrived. It was clear they meant to rob you. Do not worry--we will deal with them as they deserve."As he talks to the man, he looks over the wagon, wondering if there might be room for the full party in there. The conveyance could help speed their trip.
Ingrida closed the two men's eyes, they had made bad choices but they died honorably in battle. "Damn right you'll bury em!" she said from one knee as she looked up towards the man. "You got em killed, as their leader you'll do the diggin, and give em a nice memorial, seems only fitting"

After hearing the speech from the highwayman leader, all expression disappeared from Lucy's face."I take your suggestion into consideration…" The elf wizard sighs, lowers her rapier and says. "And my answer is…Artemis!" The white owl flies down from the branch and does a flyby on the leader's face, giving her master an advantage on attack. Lucy thrusts her weapon toward the bandit with no zero hesitation.
Green-Flame Blade to the leader: 24 Damage: 4
3 fire damage to the henchmen if he is within 5ft range.
(OOC: Maybe my attack roll is inappropriate. In that case please tell me and I will edit the post. Also,is the bladesong of Lucy still activating?)
Bree would have walked up to the Owlbear as well. Hoping it isn't to damaged by the fight so she still can get a good look at it. Of course she also will try to salvage some owlbear feathers for later use. (depending on how much time has passed afterwards she would join Garavant at the older couple, but I think not enough time has passed for that, given that she is studying the owlbear).
When Lucy all of a sudden starts attacking people she shouts: "Hey! Maybe calm down a little, I don't think these are nice people. But that doesn't mean we should kill them!"

@Garavant:
(The wagon will fit all five of you in the back, although it might be a squeeze). The old man’s face lights up with a glimmer of hope: “I would hate to see more bloodshed, but for all I know these bastards have buried as many travelers as they have extorted. We’re headed north for about a day, then east to follow the merchant’s road” (you know that your destination requires you to travel north for about two and a half days from here). “You are welcome to ride with us if we get away from this roadblock alive”
@Everyone:
The lead highwaymanseems shamed by Ingrida’sdemand, and looks ready to protest when Lucysprings forth to attack in tandem with Artemis. Bree, halfway through gathering some feathers beside Laerthelas, shouts her protest as the bladesinger’s rapier pierces the man’s belly.

Garavant responds quickly to the man. "Stand by, I will speak with my com..."
Just then, Lucy attacks the leader of the bandits. It was somehow both surprising yet expected--he supposed dispatching of these scoundrels could be considered mercy for future travelers on the road, even if Lucy seemed a bit bloodthirsty. Still the bandits had chosen to prey on the weak, and so sealed their fate. But there was no time to get caught up in such thoughts; it was time to spring into action!
Garavant rushes around the wagon to intercept the other bandit, who is close to Lucy. He springs forward and thrusts his rapier at the man, channeling thundrous magic once again.
"Stand down, sir!"he cries at the man. "Drop your weapon and do not move!"

Ingrida was appalled at what she had seen, the highwayman leader had made bad choices, but he didn't deserve to be slaughtered. Ingrida got to her feet, gripped her axe and shield, but then stopped.
"I won't be helpin ya kill that man" she said to Lucy.
OOC: Ingrida has initiative in case one of them attacks her, she'll ready an action to attack back as soon as they enter her space. Otherwise she is choosing not to act.
Lucy’ssecond attack comes before anyone else can react to the first, such is her pace. Her lunge is foreseen by the lead highwayman however, and he sidesteps to avoid the strike while wincing with pain from her opening blow.
Garavantdashes around the wagon and past Lucy to attack the lone henchman. A flash of steel slices the air and runs a deep gash down the man’s chest, causing him to howl in pain. As the wounded man drops to his knees and pleads “No more! Mercy!”, a shimmering wall of thunderous energy envelopes him ready to explode if he moves any further.
The lead highwayman, seeing his last ally surrender and under ferocious attack from the beautifully lethal bladesong, carries out a quick calculation of the odds and decides that this is not the day to die. “OK OK” he bargains, one hand up but the other held ready to parry if the attacks continue: “I cede – name your terms!”
The tatooed elf Laerthelas stands to the side of the combat and takes no action...yet.
Breetries heroically to interpose herself between Lucyand the lead highwayman, causing either one to attack with disadvantage if they aim for each other on their next turn.
Ingrida, like Laerthelas, stands by for now.
The old lady sits half-slumped in her seat, clearly fearful of the violence unfolding in front of her. The old man, by contrast, leans forward, eager to see how the encounter ends.
"I want you to die! And my owl wants your eyeballs! That's my term!" Lucy draws her elbow. Her owl hoots in anticipation. But before she unleashes her finishing blow, Bree steps in and stands between Lucy and Lead Highwayman. "What are you doing…!?" The Bladesinger gives a shout of surprise, barely stopping her blade. "Are you crazy! I have almost skewered you! This man shows no sympathy to his fallen comrade.He even asked us to donate for his next crime! If you let him go, you'll indirectly kill the travelers who are going to pass this road!"
"Maybe..." Ingrida said calmly, "But if you kill him after he has surrendered isn't that just as bad?" Ingrida walked over and stood next to Bree, "We can accept his surrender, tie him up, put him in the wagon, and then these folks here can take him on to their destination. Once there they can turn him over ta the local law." she looked back to the man, "...That is after he buries his comrades"
Garavant glances back and forth between the man he struck and the very tense situation with Bree, Lucy, and the highwayman.
"You make a good point, Lucy," he says, "but to kill a surrendered foe in cold blood will bring us ill luck. I say we take everything from these men, truss them up here, and hitch a ride with our newfound friends to quicken our journey." He nods toward the elderly couple. "We or they will let some locals know their whereabouts. If in the meantime another owl monster comes along, well then...so be it."
He looks to the others. "Unless someone's got another way to deal with these two? Something magical perhaps?"
The lead highwayman, visibly unsettled, loses his veneer of calm: "Please! I'll accept any punishment you choose, but let me live! I'll escort the old couple to their destination, or run naked in front of their wagon if needed. I know I don't make an honest living, but I'm not a killer"
His eyes are welling up, lip trembling, a single line of snot forming at one nostril. His companion, clearly struggling with his wound, joins in: "He's telling the truth! We get turned over ourselves, or ignored, more often than we actually manage to get any takings. Spare us and we'll meet any conditions that you need, you have our word".
The old man seems impassive, impossible to read. It is his wife who speaks next, softly: "I believe them. We'll take them with us and drop them off at the next settlement - now now Ferres, don't snip at me" she says as her husband starts to interject "they're young men, making mistakes - that one's barely a boy"
The husband - Ferres- relents and nods: "If you will spare 'em, we'll take 'em"
