Dismissing the spell Tempe alites on the ground and waits for the others watching towards the natives pass. Then continues with his group. If they want too.
Finishing his prayers, Randall moves over to the pit carefully, checking in with Petcan, "Did you find anything useful? If needed, I can summon a more powerful light to investigate further."
Curious himself, Randall casts daylight on the plant corpse closest to the pit and kicks it down into the abyss below.

Tempe walks back to the group, "I tried to catch one, but sadly failed." He smiles "Maybe, I can be too intimidating? I should work on my social skills."
Backing away from the pit, Randall says, "I see no need to investigate this pit further today, though we should make sure to mark its location on our map."
Looking around, he asks, "Is anyone injured? I can provide magical healing before we set off or just bandage you up while we rest a few moments. I suppose we should follow the path of the natives afterwards and attempt more...calm...negotiations."

Zenodor ask Irraxan to return to the camp and allows him to take a rest along with the rest of the party.
While we are gathered around the campfire, Z strikes up a discussion with the rest of the group about their next steps. He suggests that there are two paths open:
1. Explore the hole. Too deep for ropes, but Z can cast Fly on 2 targets, and has a magical item that lets him fly without a spell. So that covers 3 of the party. Can someone else also cast something similar? We could then explore the bottom of the pit. If we do this, it may be wise to send Irraxan down ahead of us. A hole over thousand feet deep certainly seems unusual, given that we are on a small island where ground water should normally be not too far below the surface. Perhaps a den of some sort of monster? Or perhaps an entrance into the Underdark? Either way, it sounds like something that may affect the safety of the trade settlement we are trying to help establish here.
2. Ignore the hole, follow the path which in any case seems to be going towards where we were heading. This seems to suggest that maybe the village (or whatever) these villagers came from, and the distant smoke we observed days ago may in fact be the same location. We can always do 2 after 1 if there is nothing interesting at the bottom.
Z votes for option 1 (explore the deep hole) but is happy to pursue #2 if the group prefers.
Bow would like to do both, but thinks talking to the natives first is more important at this point it time, and they might have information regarding the hole as well.

“Oh!” Petcan looks a bit embarrassed as he reaches in his pack. “I forgot, I made these for anyone who wants one.” He unwraps some sort of pastry using ingredients that look vaguely familiar but arranged in unfamiliar proportions. “I’ve been messing with the uh… travel rations. Trying to make something decent out of basics. I’m sort of proud about how good these are.”
As part of a short rest, you can cook special food, provided you have ingredients and cook’s utensils on hand. You can prepare enough of this food for a number of creatures equal to 4 + your proficiency bonus. At the end of the short rest, any creature who eats the food and spends one or more Hit Dice to regain hit points regains an extra 1d8 hit points.
With one hour of work or when you finish a long rest, you can cook a number of treats equal to your proficiency bonus. These special treats last 8 hours after being made. A creature can use a bonus action to eat one of those treats to gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus
I’ve got three special treats for 3 temp hp, and 7 of us can gain another d8 of hp during a short rest of you spend hit dice.
“I suggest we take five, and go after the villagers. The plants, we just don’t know enough to understand the consequences of going down there, yet.”

Randall:
As evening falls, Randall says, “Let us rest for the night instead of following the natives in the dark. I’ll take the last watch so I can see the sunrise and pray to the Morninglord.”
”Oh, and thanks for the pastry—I’ll see if there is any game around here we can eat to supplement it,” responds Randall to Petcan.

(How I have been playing it upto now is I have one bow in hand, and one on my back within reach; both loaded so I have a total of 12 shots before I need to reload; although reloading with the shield is difficult indeed; might have to rethink this method for bigger fights :P)
Luckily Bow can keep the boar at bay with his shield after which he imbues his first crossbow with rite of the storm taking 1 damage in the process.
After that he gets of two quick shots on the boar:

When the beast drops Bow makes a round through the close surroundings after it seems everything is quite again he gets back to the camp.
He takes a look at the beast, and gives it a couple of pets on the back; thinking that is a pity that it attacked him, but it will make some good food for the morning and day. He refills the crossbow clip he used, which doesn't leave his hand during the rest of the watch, shield next to him. At the end he wakes Randall and tells him what happened and that it was a quite night besides the boar. Before he gets back to sleep for a couple of hours more.

Nodding his appreciation at the adroitness with which Bow dispatched the intruder, Randall uses much of his watch to properly skin and butcher the giant boar, and the party wakes up to the smell of sizzling bacon, though much of the choicest bits of meat have been left for Petcan the chef to pack and season as he sees fit.
