While staying with Randall and the group, Zenodor tries to have a look at the energy field and its structure to attempt to work our what purpose it might serve. (Arcana 10 )
All you know is that due to the size of it the result will be something... Momentous!

You circle wide of the energy and as you approach you can see in the distance that the tower occupies the first gap in the corona. There are flashes of light coming from the top of the tower, some the same color as the corona, some not.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
Zenodor says: "Whatever this is, I think we should try to disrupt the creation of the field before it is complete. If this is magic to summon some creatures, we could be looking at an invasion! Let us hurry!"
“Enough said! Let’s hope our mages are still alive and resisting the massive spell,” responds Randall, piloting the carpet to the tower, engaging his armor’s Beacon of Hope ability as they near the destination.

You can determine that it is Conjuration magic and that means either summoning a creature as large as the city, or teleporting something.

”The massive spell is made of conjuration energy—it will either summon a creature of unimaginable size, teleport/plane shift it, or both. I fear the destination may be our material plane version of Laurentis—the city could not withstand such an assault,” says Randall, continuing his flying approach at maximum speed.
”Prepare—we must dismantle this magic before it dooms our home,” he adds.

The walls and most of the buildings are intact and although there are no people to be seen you do occasionally witness the odd dark denizen wandering around.
They sometimes cross paths and after a brief clash move on but just as often only one moves on as the other has met a fatal end.
The towers here are as dark as the shadows themselves. Near the top can be seen a purple miasma of energy linking all the towers, as if a giant halo or laurel rested atop the city... except it's broken and incomplete in several places.
Z: "I suggest that we head to one of the places where the pattern is as-yet incomplete. We need to stop the ritual form being completed!"
As you all approach the nearest gap in the corona you see half a dozen Wizards atop of the nearest tower forming a circle.
Off to the side are two more Wizards engaging in a magical duel with a flying figure positioned diagonally above and away from the tower about a 100 feet.
Just as you all are arriving on the flying carpet the two Wizards and the lone figure take notice. Each of the two Wizards cast a spell and suddenly a twin of each appears while the lone figure summons a Large silvery sphere roughly the same distance (100 feet) from itself and the Wizards.
Please roll for initiative.

(the 8 Wizards on top of the tower are from Laurentiis, you don't recognize the flying figure, and their 'spell duel' is definitely about the corona... the Wizards appear desperate while the flying figure appears determined)
