”What’s the problem, Ceo,” asks Randall, “We are literally burning our bridges behind us to protect the refugees from the goblins, right? What’s not to understand?”

“I think he means the - not one but - two hordes of goblins. This seems quite out of character, yeah? Like we’re about to be in one of those parts of history which are verrry interesting but you don’t actually want to live through yourself.” Petcan runs his fingers through his hair. “I’m not sure there’s any way for us to answer a question like that from here.”
As the first day to Laurentiis draws to a close you find a suitable spot to camp and feel safe enough with the combined hordes on the other side of the river.
(ooc: yes, a lore bard and a wizard would have really good chances.)

"I will stay with the refugees and tend to their aches and pains. I am sure not all of them are used to walking all day, and we can't afford for them to slow down with the goblins behind us," offers Randall. Looking ahead, he wonders aloud, "Where are the riders we sent? Should they have not alerted the city and have returned here to tell us the news? Should we send someone ahead to ensure we are not leading the refugees into a trap?"

OOC: as a Lore bard and a Wizard, I would assume we have the highest chance of finding answers?
Petcan is neither of those things lol
Oh, yeah, sorry that’s Whisper. Unless anyone else would like to join, I guess I’ll find answers on my own once we get to the city. But yeah, I forgot about them messengers, they should have been back shouldn’t they?
Bow you find the former Reeve of Garrum trying to maintain some leadership over the refugees to keep their morale up in troubled times and such.
Randall is doing a good job of this nearby and you all meet at around the same time.
The Reeve is concerned by your questions and asks you both off to the side, "Do you really think it's a trap? Why hasn't there been word yet? What should I tell the refugees?"

"Well, we haven't gotten word back from the messengers, and they should have had time to get to the city by now. Let's hope it is just as simple as the city readying for a siege and not letting our messengers back out to rejoin us and let us know what is going on," says Randall hopefully, adding, "But sending scouts ahead to see what is going on at the city is probably wise. If there are two goblin hordes joining south of us, there may be more around, and it wouldn't do to lead the refugees right into them."

"I wish I was sure this wasn't a trap, but indeed like brother Randall says; the messengers should have been back by now. How many horses do you still have Master Reeve? It might be best if we take a couple of horses and ride ahead to see what's up there. the hordes behind should be delayed by a good amount of time, so it would be save for you to stay here a bit longer while we scout ahead and come and report back."

As some of you gather a few horses and scout ahead it isn't long before you almost run right into a messenger. The messenger looks weathered, worn, and ragged but is able to confirm your worse suspicions. "There is a 'Goblin Horde' ahead! Have any other messengers made it through?" He begins looking around and not seeing any he says in a voice just above a whisper, "May the Light preserve us!"
When he has a chance to dismount and get a drink of water he relays more and answers questions.
The city of Laurentiis is aware of several 'Goblin Hordes' that seem to be converging on them. The only direction without a 'Goblin Horde' is North. Although there are no goblins in that direction it will be hard going as much of the land is marshy and wet.

“Did any messengers get through to warn Laurentiis of the refugees approaching with the goblin horde of our own on our heels? If so, did they make any strategies to deal with the goblin horde already between them and us?” asks Randall, grasping at any hope of avoiding weary refugees getting slaughtered by goblins or mired in the swamp.

Whatever plans they have they didn't share with me."

Does anyone know much about Laurentiis? Is there anything special or different about it? Anything that has changed about it recently that might shed light on what is happening?
