The group in the jungle, realizing that something big is happening in the building in the clearing, run back toward it. As they reach the edge of the clearing, they see the modrons swarming toward the door of the building - all except for the elephant construct, which stands unmoving and eerily silent.
Koll wonders aloud in a whisper, "What if it is some kind of vehicle? The modrons were going in and out of it before. Let's go have a look."
Trusting the others to follow him, and so stay within his aura of shadow and silence, Koll goes to the edge of the clearing close to the the mammoth construct. He doesn't see much, as it is facing away from them, but he does see the hatch on its side.
Turning to Woe, he asks, "Wanna throw a rock at it?"
"Sure," she answers, "but that'll give away our position."
Meanwhile, Dapple decides to climb a tree to stay hidden and get a good vantage point.
"I think the time has come for us to act," Koll declares, "and come out of the shadows. My instincts tell me that this could be the most foolish or most awesome idea."
And with that, he rushes out of the jungle to the elephant's side. He opens the hatch and climbs in. Inside is enough room to fit a small army. At the front of the contraption is a storage area. A small gnomish-looking construct sits there, much like the one that had talked to them on the beach earlier in the day. It too is silent and unmoving, though its eyes shift slightly. In the rear of the elephant's inside is a complicated series of levers.
Koll sends a prayer of thanks to Ilmater. He leans out of the hatch and waves the others over.
As you ascend the stairs, about two-hundred feet up, you start to feel a soreness kick in. It's a long climb... Perrin, at the lead of the group, immediately begins to feel as though his body is nearly... weightless. Looking past the ladder, there are no more ladder rungs. But it doesn't seem to matter because he's practically floating. Perrin pushes himself up and begins to float to the surface. Lera follows, then Singe, Polly, and Zamar bringing up the rear.
The group propels their way up, nearly a mile to the surface, and Perrin finds himself met with a weightless barrier. There are handhelds here, and he's forced to pull himself the final fifty feet to the hatch. As he approaches, the hatch opens of its own accord. He's met with the same hallway he saw before but on the other side. The modron that previously blocked the hallway stands 30 feet ahead of him, motionless. A small intrusion attempts to pierce his mind but is blocked by Frank.
Perrin looks down and tells the others "We're at the surface."
As Zamar and company all pop up out of the hatch, there's the slight intrusion in their minds like before. Then Polly screams out, "Mr. Flumples is my friend!" And the hallway begins to fill with modrons.
Perrin moves up to W17, Frank in hand, and tells him *I promised we’d get them* before striking at the big guy in front of him. Landing a solid hit to his sternum. (To Hit: 16 Damage: 6)
Lera, staying put, launches a quick FireBolt, but it misses the creature and strikes the wall next to it. (To Hit: 13 Miss)
"Oh no, this could end badly." Singe says as he raises four fingers, two magic missiles hit two of the pentadrone's legs, snapping them off. As the pentadrone readjusts to three legs, a third magic missile hits one of the eyes. A fourth missile appears and hits the modron behind it directly in the eye.
Singe casts magic missile at second level, dealing 12 force damage to the pentadrone and 4 force damage to the monodrone on x14.

Zamar surveys the battlefield ad realizes how badly they are outnumbered. Even though it went badly in the caves, he knows his best option. Strumming the Lyre, he begins to sing. "Still surviving, can't be beat. Look at us. We're what matters. Uh, those modrons. They're shattered!"As his verse concludes, there is a deafening boom in the midst of the modrons. Five of the smaller ones fall as the blast radiates outward. The pent is staggered. Even doors and walls crumble. As the door collapses, a blue light emanates into the hallway. This could be the portal!
As he surveys the carnage, Zamar notes that Perrin is the closest to danger. He sings "When Frank sees your face, he has to stop and stare for a while, cuz you're amazing. Now please kill this star!"
(Zamar uses his last level 2 to cast Shatter on w14 for 13 damage on two modrons and 6 on the others and the Star who made their saves. He uses his first of 3 inspirations on Perrin. 1 d6)
Shanolia's plan was to stay hidden - until Koll commandeered the Elephant and drew attention to himself. With a sigh, she reaches over her shoulder and pulls her crossbow into her hands, lining up a shot on the Pentadrone before her. Releasing a deep breath, she lets the bolt fly across the sixty-five feet between her and her target, embedding itself in one of his many arms. Just as the Modron turns to see where the bolt came from - looking pretty hurt, and very angry - Shanolia ducks down and weaves through the jungle flora, finding a new spot to hide and assess the situation.
Inside the elephant machine, Koll stares at the controls. "I need someone smarter than me to figure this out," he says. But as he stares, he thinks maybe it isn't so difficult after all. That group of levers is for each of its legs. But they are connected in such a way that they can be operated together or individually. There seems to be a lever for controlling the head and an attached mechanism that probably controls the trunk. Pushing and pulling on this lever controls speed, and this crank probably controls direction. I got this.
Through some miracle of chance, it is all clear to him. (natural 20 on Intelligence check). He pumps his fist and lets out a whoop of triumph as he begins manipulating the mechanisms, bringing the machine to life under his control.
"Shhh" Dapple shushes Woe, who calls up to him from the ground. He judges the distance to the pentadrone which Shanolia had injured and draws down on it with the bow he unlimbers from across his back. The shot flies true, but the creature moves at the last second and the arrow only deals a glancing blow. With a frustrated snarl, the ranger follows that arrow with a second one, but it's rushed and flies well wide.
Dropping back to the ground, Dapple darts quickly through the open hatch after Woe. "Where did Shanolia go? She's coming to, isnt she?" He looks out into the jungle for her, ready to close the hatch as soon as she joins them.
[1st Arrow: 20 to hit, 4 damage. 2nd Arrow: 9 to hit, miss]
Grasalfan holds his hammer, glowing slightly with Gond's power, and charges from behind his cover. He swings hard at the large modron in from of him, but it slides away from his blow.
Polly walks past Singe to stand in front of him. Her hands make the memorized movements that she was taught and her hair begins to blow wildly in a non-existent wind. Everything in the room gets darker as she calls upon the powers that have imbued her with magic, and a massive bolt of fire flies from her hand. The bolt slams into the modron that Grasalfan failed to hit, and it disintegrates on impact. "Leave... my... friends... alone!" She screams.
The sounds of machinery whirring in the room to the east picks up. It's so loud now, as if there's some sort of rapid construction. When it ends, everyone in the building hears a mechanical roar. Zamar starts to feel something prying his mind apart, digging in to the inner sections of his thoughts. There... something is attempting to plant something in his head, and it's quite painful. Eventually the pain becomes unbearable. First he drops to his knees, hands clutching his head. Then he falls forward into convulsions.
The modrons that Zamar destroyed disintegrate, returning to Mechanus. Polly's kill does likewise, leaving a large pile of soft ash in its wake.
All of the modrons begin to converge upon the intruders in the Portal's sanctuary. A javelin flies towards Perrin and he deflects it with his shield. Another flies towards Grasalfan, and Perrin deflects that one as well. Two modrons charge forth at both Perrin and Grasalfan and stab at them with daggers. The two hold their ground against the assault as the hallway fills with these little representatives of Primus. "Hold yer ground, kid," Grasalfand whispers, eyes wide at the sheer amount of modrons flooding the hallway.
Both apes go rushing towards the group attempting to hijack the tranaphant. One of them gets close enough to tear at the mechanical contraption to get at the adventurers inside. Its claws rip through the insides as it tries to make its way to Woe.
Peeking through the various flora and flowers, Shanolia sees Dapple and Woe climbing into the mechanical elephant. She peeks down at her crossbow, scoffing at the lack of nocked bolt and taking off towards the mechanical transport only to watch as the gorilla takes a swipe at it. Thinking quickly, she rushes to the other side and pulls it open, rolling into the vehicle and kneeling amongst her allies while pulling another bolt from her case to load the crossbow.
“Come on pops,” Lera placed a hand on her father and felt the small well of healing within her flow into him. She vaulted over him and dashed behind Grasalfan. The sorcerer pushed her hands in front of her and let forth a torrent of flames. Four modrons disintegrated before her.
Woe leans out of the open hatch, looking the gorilla right in the mechanical eyes. "We'll get you. You have no chance."
Then she moves her hands and a greenish light starts to emanate from her hands and streaks towards the two gorillas. One just shakes it off, but the other one is now illuminated in a greenish light. "Attack the green one first, it is easier to hit him!" Woe shouts. She wrinkles her forehead in concentration, and moves back towards the other hatch, as far away from the attacking gorilla as possible.
Then she sings a couple of lines to encourage Dapple. "You can live forever, you can hit harder, you can beat this thing, you're amazing!"
//cast faerie fire on both gorillas: saves: 1d20 = (7) = 7 (gorilla at D/E-8/9 is affected) and 1d20 = (13) = 13 (E/F 10/11 is save)
"Could anyone block the entrance?" Singe asks as he flings three fingers forward, striking three of the remaining monodrones in the hallway in the eye with spectral darts. Each monodrone collapses as they hold their eye in pain.
Singe cast magic missile at three of the remaining monodrones, dealing 2, 3, and 4 force damage. In the hallway, only the monodrone on V10 remains.

Once everyone is inside and after launching their attacks out of the open hatch in the elephant's side, Koll pulls levers to move it to face the attacking mechanical gorillas. His hand darts to the head control and makes it swing its fearsome tusks at the gorilla that Dapple had already stabbed at, and which is glowing green from Woe's spell. There is a satisfying crunch as the gorilla is gored.

With one gorilla clearly enshrouded in light, Dapple calls upon his own magic and marks it as well. (Casts Hunter's Mark). He then strikes out with his rapier, quick and precise, carving away some of the flapping meat from the heart's torso.
Zamar felt a sharp pain in his head and collapsed to the ground. When he came to, Lera was standing over him, pouring healing energy to revive him. He stood up, grasped the Lyre, and began to play again. This time, a wall of wind sprang up along the crossing corridor. It whipped and swirled, battering the small monodrones and crushing all in its path. he way was cleared for Perrin and Frank to strike at the mechanized lion.
Nodding at Zamar who has successfully cleared a path to the Lion Modron for Perrin and Frank.
I told you we'd get him; now let's take it out with this one hit. Perrin tells Frank before raising him to the air.
"Yondalla grant us your light." He says as a quick prayer while he begins to glow in a faint radiant aura. (Cast: Divine Favor)
Perrin then runs towards the mechanical beast before striking it in the heart with his Divine Energy enhanced Frank. (Moved to W11. To Hit: 1d20+6 = 19+6 = 25. Divine Strike). Not striking deep enough he thinks that he has failed, however, Frank seems to want to go deeper and plunged into the heart of the mechanical beast. (Scored a Crit on a 19 for a total of 35 Damage.) The Lion lays dead when Perrin removes Frank from its chest.
Defeating the Lion Frank now wants to destroy the giant construct in front of us. The modron portal seethes chaos.
Grasalfan moves forward, blocking the path for any oncoming modrons. He readies an attack... once a modron crosses his path he hammers down at it, smacking it and causing it to disintegrate into a pile of dust.
Polly pops the cap from her weird tank, and the weird engulfs her as if attempting to protect her from anything coming.
Perrin and Grasalfan see the massive Portal modron move. It's so quick that it seems to be in a realm of its own. The massive lion is discarded into a grate below the modron and it begins to assemble a new one. It presents a massive wolf, fur and machine melded together in quick succession. The modron will not go down without a fight. As if to express this, it slams into Perrin's mind, prying his thoughts with psionic energy. The pain is excruciating, but he's able to power through it, barely. Frank whispers in his mind, We can protect each other! Let me in!
The modrons themselves seem to rush forward, not caring that the wind is whipping forth debris. Their wings have all been burned off, preventing them from flying, so the wind only seems to wobble them as they charge forth.
Once the large modron gets within range, it spews forth a noxious cloud. The toxins within attempt to stop any carbon matter from moving, but both Perrin and Grasalfan resist its effects.
The construct apes all continue battering the massive tranaphant. Biting and clawing their way into it.

Damage:
Tranaphant - 34
Pentadrone - 25
Portal Modron - 10
Mechanical Ape at D8 - 33
Zamar - 3/21
Perrin - 13/28
