Brandon lets the momentum of opening the door carry him into the room and stops short when he sees the strange individual. He stands, sword unsheathed but pointed down by his side. The stranger is clearly undead, an affront to the natural order and his queen, but there is something in his eyes that encourages caution. “We come searching for a cure to save some young children. Children who fell ill from a poison from this very site. We did not intend to interrupt” Brandon looks around the room, taking in the tables and the lab equipment “What exactly are you doing here?”
Arcana to determine what the are working on: 16.

Ressys steps into the room after Brandon. He moves to the side and watches the creature, the undead being. His ears lay back and he whispers to Brandon. "I think we read about this fellow. I think this is who we look for." He continues to watch the creature, listening to the conversation.

Durnham comes in behind the others as usual and sees the undead creature… as well as the laboratory. The creature was clearly undead, and just as clearly, intelligent. Undeath didn’t bother the dwarf much, it was a path some had taken… usually the insane and evil, but it was a process he had heard about.
The laboratory, on the other hand… that made him nervous. This was where the creature made the frigid woe. Who knew what kind of dangerous substances were in here? He looked about trying to determine what was happening in here. 25 Arcana
But he was distracted by the thing in front of them. “You surpassed death? How?”

Qidira slips in behind the others but prefers to remain unseen. She stays just behind them silent and listening to the discussion. She wraps her face quietly, cautiously preparing for a potential dose of the Frigid Woe. If this creature made it, they would not fear using it knowing of an antidote.
She listens to the language and studies the shelves full of knickknacks and tools. This is certainly an alchemist's laboratory but perhaps she could learn more of the thing standing in front of them to aid her friends. history23

The undead creature regards you all curiously. Answering Brandon's question, it says "Children? We created a weapon that could lay down the gods themselves, I suppose weaker beings would be susceptible too. I've no doubt that's a shame, but mortality is a burden that most beings carry. As to what I'm doing here, I am working! Progress stops for nobody, and a better solution is always just waiting to be discovered"
He seems detached, emotionless as he talks. Answering Durnham, he says: "Indeed, I have thrown off those shackles in order to build on my acquired knowledge forever! My methods are my own secret I'm afraid, although if you were willing to help me here then maybe an apprenticeship would be on offer, hmmm?"
He seems proud of his achievement and senses a chance to impress the young wizard.
@Brandon: Hard to determine what he is working on, but the various materials and devices suggest he is distilling a potion or poison of some sort.
@Durnham: You struggle to identify the process, although it seems to be an experiment.
@Qidira: The undead is dressed in robes of Aeorian origin, a high ranking official maybe. You do not recognise the individual though.
Durnham stares in apparent awe. “I’ve heard of such processes of course… but those practices are discouraged to say the least. I’m… just a student…” he looks down embarrassed a moment and then around at the laboratory and begins rambling, his thoughts and words jumping subjects. “This is fascinating! I can scarcely understand… an apprenticeship… To work with a real Aeorian… the knowledge you must have… the things I could learn… A weapon to destroy gods… why? Help you with what? What is it you’re working on”
As Durnham speaks with the creature, Qidira speaks a little too loudly in a pretended whisper to the others. "He's obviously a high ranking Aeorian from earlier days, deserving of our respect but I wonder how the Gods have offended him so?"
Qidira ponders quietly the value of an apprenticeship in the things he must know but worries about Durnham's safety in doing so. This one is far beyond valuing life even of an apprentice if he thinks little of a child's suffering. She perhaps though the danger would be worth it to him to study the wonders he must possess in his years.
The creature snaps his focus on Ressys and smiles wryly: "Well yes, I am indeed. Are you new here? Do you need assignment?"
Turning back to Durnham, he gives a wide grin framed by dead eyes "Because the gods got above themselves. They deigned to play with our fates like we were ants, toys for their own amusement. Oh we showed them though, gave them a bloody nose for sure! But when my beautiful Aeor fell, I had to double my efforts to build a better weapon. If I can improve the formula, the poison can be so much more powerful; unavoidable, deadly in one hundred percent of cases!"
By now Ferol Sal is gesturing wildly, speaking ever more loudly: "And the world can start again! Like a fresh canvas, ready for me to wake the rest of my surviving compatriots, wherever they fell. We will walk this land as the new gods, alone in our Eden"
He pauses at the height of his monologue, looking to you all for approval.
Durnham is lost in thought a moment as he imagines the knowledge Ferol Sol could teach him. The idea is a dream come true! But the creature kept talking… and what he said… was madness. He gives Ressys a look, assignment? What did that mean?
“100 percent deadly, wouldn’t that kill everyone and everything, not just gods but all people? And what do you mean your surviving compatriots? Aeor is gone. There’s nobody left. This plan of yours… you would be alone, there would be nothing to rule or be a god over.”
He pleads with Ferol Sol, distraught over the loss of such knowledge, ”Please, give up this idea, I would sacrifice much to learn what you can teach… but… even your vast knowledge would be useless on a dead world.”
Brandon looks at Durnham with surprise “You cannot be seriously considering learning from this one. This is madness. He means to destroy everything.”
Brandon turns to the undead creature “New gods? You are playing with the fates of others. You are worse than what you claim to replace. Aeor is fallen, as is all of your kind. I know not what you did to wake the others walking these halls, nor do I care. You can cheat death no longer, she will get her due.” He raises his sword toward Feral Sol.

The barrage of corrections and objections seems to stagger Ferol Sal as if hit by a volley of arrows: "Gone? No, it can't be! We fell, but we survive...I cannot be the only one"
He looks around the lab at his life's (and undeath's) work, then turns slowly to face you. When he speaks again, his face is menacing: "Well then, if there is no more Aeor then I must ensure that no-one can stand on our shoulders and enjoy the paradise that should have been ours. Curse you all!"
He draws his longsword and prepares to attack. A crossbow bolt flies from seemingly nowhere, Qidira's prepared shot sailing wide. Ferol Sal snarls: "DIE!"

Durnham sees Ferol Sol draw a blade and Qidira’s bolt fly past. “No! Stop it! Don’t do this Ferol! You could teach us so much. The world could be so much better if you worked with us!”
(OOC: Durnham very nearly did and it’s still possible but unlikely now. Grubba had Ferol hit him in a weak spot with that offer. He truly would have sacrificed a lot to learn the lost knowledge of Aeor. But the creature went too far and said too much. Having all that knowledge would be useless if everything and everyone was dead. He doesn’t want to know just for power or the sake of knowing, he wants to use the knowledge to better the world, better civilization, better everyone. I was genuinely worried I would lose Durnham. There weren’t a lot of ways he could refuse that offer but Ferol found one.)
